Reviews / Ratings for The East Side Restaurant & Pub
It's my favorite place to eat in Newport Vermont!!!
We had an absolutely horrible experience on Valentine's day! After coming here since a child, I am beyond dissapointed. Food has gone downhill terribly! We called 2 weeks prior to make the reservation for the fireplace table for two. We have done this many other busy nights and always been accommodated. We were just at the East Side in Nov for my birthday, and Dec for Christmas. Both at the fireside table. We drove an hour and a half each way. Upon arriving we were told our table was not available by the older woman hosting. She gave excuses about it being due to volume of people. I work in the industry, and I know that is a planning mistake. Upon being sat, we were able to see the fireplace table was JUST sat prior to us. They didn't even have drinks yet. When that was addressed with the same woman, she admitted nobody wrote down that we wanted the fireplace table in the first place. A woman came over and applogized again, who I assumed was the manager, but then an hour later, she told us she was a hostess. We sat for almost an hour and nobody helped us. We had to flag down who I thought was the manager, but apparently a hostess who said she was hosting, but could take the table. We finally got drinks over an hour after being there. Then she also brought us bread (which should have been brought to the table immediately as an olive branch at this point) Apparently there was no manager in house. We sat wondering when we would be greeted. Then we ordered the lobster pot and calamari, along with the prime rib dinner and a chicken finger basket. We sat for another hour with absolutely no food. Then the hostess/server came and apologized and told us the kitchen wasn't getting any tickets. And for some reason for the past hour that wasn't concerning to the kitchen with a full house. I know this was true because there were many unhappy tables surrounding us also being told their tickets never printed to the kitchen. When the food finally arrived- the calamari was chewy to the point we barely ate it (nobody ever even checked on how it was). The fries with the tenders were cold and mushy, my rice pilaf was completely cold, and less than a half a cup to boot, and the veggies that came with it (mostly carrots, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and zucchini) were the cheapest veggies possible. They were boiled with absolutely no flavor. Absolutely inedible, and does not pair with prime rib to start. Then the prime rib wasn't very tender (I certainly wouldn't order again, and it is my go to when we eat out weekly no matter where we go!) Then we got the flourless chocolate cake, which was said to be homemade. It was absolutely disgusting. Didn't even taste like chocolate. I took two bites, asked my boyfriend to try it to confirm it wasn't just me, and we threw it out. I have tasted better frozen desserts from a grocery store. Not a single item was comped, and with the experience we had, the whole bill should have been. We still tipped 20% knowing the woman was a hostess just trying to help out, and at this point it was very clear there was not a manager in house. We spent almost $200, to waste 3hrs on Valentine's day to leave extremely frustrated and drive an hour and a half home. We wrote to the owner and were promised a gift certificate. Which they then forgot to send out until I asked where it was weeks later. However, I should have opted for the refund as the gift certificate wouldn't cover drinks or a tip. So we were comped half of what we originally paid during our horrible experience. I emailed the owner asking for the other half of the gift certificate and was met with no response. On our second trip the mussels were disgusting and tasted old, with tons of basil?! and dead mussels that didn't open. Then the ones that were open were crushed by the tongs used to grab them and had shell pieces in them . I had to send that back. Safe to say THE EAST SIDE HAS CHANGED, AND NOT FOR THE BETTER!
We went as a party of four. Three of us ordered the stuffed cod and one treasure chest. We had absolutely no complaints! It was all so delicious! The staff was so kind and accommodating! The atmosphere was just perfect! The view of the lake and the sunset was beautiful!
Never had a bad meal at Eastside I would recommend 10 out of 10 it has not changed the buffet is good and affordable
Food amazing every time love this place
The food was *fantastic* but Sharon really made the experience. It was clear she loves what she does, and she told us as much. Wonderful food, delightful staff, beautiful place.
Friendly staff, great baked goods!
Best place in town for a drink and some tasty treats.
The food is fantastic and many different kinds of dish that you don't see elsewhere. I have never had a bad meal nor bad service. And you certainly cannot beat The View! I would highly recommend anyone to try this place - it's a great experience.
Very friendly restaurant in Newport, VT. Cozy in the winter and in the summer make sure you snag a table on the deck overlooking the lake and watch the sunset.
Loved it. Food was awesome and the service was great. We will definitely come back.
