A Three-Hour Culinary Expedition Reserved a table for 13 at 5:30 p.m. and finally left at 8:15 p.m. — not because we were having a great time, but because apparently dinner here operates on geological time. It took 30 minutes just to acknowledge us, followed by another 10+ minutes for drinks. Then our waitress asked what we wanted to eat… before giving us menus. Once we got menus, our orders were taken in three installments: 5, then 4, then 4, with a 20-minute gap before the last group was even asked what they wanted. Meanwhile, people who arrived after us were eating and leaving while we were still waiting. There were 13 of us and only 7 glasses of water. Apparently the other six were expected to hydrate through osmosis. The food arrived completely out of sequence. The first five were finished eating around 7:15 while others were still waiting. Along the way, we learned they had run out of fried pickles and draft beer. One burger came with cheese so badly charred it looked like it had survived a house fire. The atmosphere? Think hospital emergency waiting room mixed with Service Ontario. The only thing missing was someone calling, “Now serving table 13.” And the grand finale: you have to get up and pay at the counter. When I got there, I discovered our waitress had apparently written none of our orders down, so I had to recite the entire table’s order from memory. I understand that serving 13 people is challenging, but accepting a reservation for 13 with one waitress and one cook might require a disclaimer: “Estimated dining time: approximately one geological era.” Terrasse du Pont Rouge has created something truly unique: waiting is the main course, confusion is the appetizer, and the bill is a memory test. 0 stars for efficiency. 5 stars for the adventure.
