Steak Frites was recommended to us by the conceigre at our hotel. It was especially recommended because of their BYOB policy which was greatly appreciated. After that, things were downhill. We ordered an appetizer of Octopus which was mostly overcooked. We told the server and he just shrugged it off. Then several of us ordered the Steak-Frites classic dish. The fries were soggy and the steak very hard to eat. Not a great experience with the food or service. Do not visit this restaurant!

My first steak frites time in Montreal and what an experience! First of all - the fries are unlimited! Second - I took the classic steak fritz ($42cad) and the meat was extremely tender! Every bite was heaven! I also took the Dijon sauce to go with it - really good. The greens beans were a bit boring - wish they would throw some garlic or something on them but overall - a fantastic experience! I’d come back again and recommend!

It has been a few years since we've been here, and we always had a nice time but it's gone down hill considerably. - Ambiance: about the same as a school cafeteria with some paintings. The restaurant is jammed packed with tables with very little space between them. - Service: exceptionally bad. The table wasn't ready despite having a reservation. The waitress didn't pour the win and rushed us at every step. She tried to our appetizer away that was only half finished. - Food: Took 1 hour to get the mains. Food was ok none of it was seasoned. The sauces are necessary for any flavour. The unlimited fries is nice and the refills came out fast.

My wife and I ordered filet and lobster. The filet was cooked to perfection and the mushroom sauce was excellent. The drawn butter for the lobster tail was superb, garlic seasoning was the best!!

The best part is that you could bring your own wine. Service friendly, food is good and the tables are well spaced and not cramped. My only criticism concerns the metal chairs which get uncomfortable after 1 hr. This could simply be fixed by adding a little cushion.

I had the walleye and it was delish! The chairs are super uncomfortable and the atmosphere is pretty bland. Very much a tourist spot, but the food is good.

Amazing restaurant with a verry straight forward menu. I went there multiple times in a year and all the waiters were verry kind and gentle. No delays or mixed orders. The service was exceptional. The food is also verry nice! Specially the soupe à la oignon. Price wise, It's not a pleace you can eat there every day! But it's worth every cent! 👌

Underwhelming. I understand if you don't know how to cook a piece of meat, but when you do, it's not that good. The filet mignon was dry and not that tender. The green beans were really good, the French onion soup was delicious. The ceasar salad wasn't good and they used store bought croutons. The french fries were not crunchy, but limp and more on the soggy side. We'll go to a different place next time

You'd get a better experience when you have a late afternoon meal there instead of a lunch or dinner. To my surprise, their walleye fillet was way better than their steaks.

Our kids love a good steak frites and had to come. We brought our own wine. Our server was friendly and attentive. We ordered the CHATEAUBRIAND for 2 and our steak came out too well done. They were so kind to make us the whole meal again. Otherwise everyone’s steak was done medium perfectly. Our parents shared the salmon with fries, which was also delicious. Desserts were generous portions. We would totally come back again. Tip: pick up wines at Avril Marche nearby. From 4-7pm wines are 50% off.

We had a nice time on Father's Day at Steak Frites. My dad and I split the steak for two. Dad liked the endless fries as they were really good. The steak was cooked just the way we like it. Our waiter, Mark, attended to our every need. Mark even gave us suggestions on what to do while in Montreal as this was our first time in the city. Will return for a nice steak the next time we visit Canada.

The food was delicious! Yummy escargot, then steak frites. I agree with the other reviewer regarding the steak knives as it took a lot of cutting to get my steak into bite size pieces. I didn’t know about bringing your own wine sadly, but if you know it’s great! The apple pie dessert was delicious too, the caramel sauce surrounded the pie and the crust was flavorful.
