Some of the best drinks in Montreal, the sakerita is amazing. And the food is great too, highly recommend the cheesy udon!
Reviews / Ratings for Shushuto Bar à Ramen + Tapas
Udon not really Japanese udon, not chewy at all and almost feels like Shanghai noodles instead. Had high expectations for the carbonara udon but was disappointed. I wouldn’t say it’s an authentic Japanese restaurant. Service was a bit slow too. Won’t come again.
2nd time back is as many weeks. David, our waiter was not only attentive and helpful with ordering, he also made great suggestions on menu items, and told us about their new midday brunch on Th,/ Fri/ Sat/ Sun which has grown exponentially. A must do, and recommended to reserve on Open-Table.com
I ordered 3 different vegan sushi plates, I enjoyed the buttery flavor of the avocado roll. The vegan tuna presentation looked amazing, but tasted like nothing. They got my fiance's order wrong but it was still fine. It was awkward that one of the servers hit on our friend with a "you're so beautiful" while she was trying to pay. I had a good time with my friends but wouldn't recommend this place.
Food was good, but the coffee wasn’t, Ordered a latte but came in a cup of an espresso
I’m a little confused about my review. I want to like the place, the vibes were good, it was busy, the staff was attentive, food came at a good speed. But the food wasn’t that great??? Everything was just okay to mid at best. Nothing stood out. I was a little disappointed, maybe my expectations were too high due to instagram and tiktok influencers. The drinks were also just okay. I’ve had better espresso martinis and amaretto sours elsewhere.
Legendary food.
Waited over an hour and a half for food when the restaurant was not busy.
Went for brunch with friends and it was a terrible experience. The place was almost empty, yet service was extremely slow. Coffee took forever and arrived cold, served one by one for no reason. Food was even worse, I ordered a Japanese omelet over French toast, and it was completely overwhelmed with mayo to the point of being inedible. On top of that, the bathroom was dirty and had no tissues. Would not recommend.
Excellent
The ube matcha tasted like watered down cold milk, and the sando was good but was missing texture and sauce. Overall everything felt dry and lacking any spices whatsoever, the bread just tasted like normal bread. The salad was just aragula with dressing. Furthermore they forgot all the toppings in the sando of one person at our table and one of the “salads” had no dressing. The service was overall too slow, but at least the waiter was friendly and polite. My biggest disappointment was the matcha, ive had amazing matcha lattes from nearby local cafes and make my own matcha drinks at home with imported organic matcha powder. Of course i dont expect the same quality at restaurants, but i at least expect the drink to taste a bit like matcha and a bit like ube. This one tasted like neither and had no sweetness either. Literally felt like i had ice cubes with milk :/ I really hope the restaurant uses my comments to improve because i love the idea of their brunch menu, but not the execution. Our whole table was disappointed with the food, drinks and service.
Instagram vs reality… I’ll start with the positive: the brunch items were genuinely delicious. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by extremely long wait times. We arrived at 11:00 a.m. when the restaurant was only about half full. It took 35 minutes just to receive our drinks (matcha and ube coffee), and our main dishes didn’t arrive until 12:20, an hour and 20 minutes after we were seated. Looking around, it was clear we weren’t the only ones frustrated. Many tables seemed visibly disappointed, sitting there sipping water and waiting. To make matters worse, our server never checked in on us, didn’t ask how the food was, and didn’t acknowledge the delay at all. Great food, but the service and timing really need improvement.
The service was really bad...we waited 30 minutes to be seated despite having a reservation and another 45 min to get our food. The steak Sando had to be sent back cuz the steak was well done and the bread was black. In terms of atmosphere, it's very loud and the light fixtures and giant plant in the front needs a dusting, badly. The duck French toast was nice but that cheese sauce tasted like cheese whiz and after seeing the kitchen pull out their karaage from a bag I realized I'm overpaying. If you want a place to post cute pics of your towering french toast and cute ube matchas for your Instagram, go ahead. But if you're looking for good quality food and service, I'd go somewhere else.
Amazing night & food . It was my first time there and i totally enjoyed it ! Everything was on the spot !
We had reservations for 1:30 pm. Brunch should have a table turnover of 45-60 mins. We waited 30 mins for someone to take our drink order and over 1 hour to receive our food. The service was very inattentive and cold. I couldn't enjoy the food because of the service. Not a fan of the overcooked steak in my sandwich that I was told by the manager is "medium" and the burnt bread. At least they removed it from the table and bill. The duck confit French toast was nice but I would tell them to make a home made cheese sauce rather than cheese whiz. The karaag comes from a store bought bag. I would avoid.
We arrived at the restaurant at 4:45 PM and asked if we could order food and drinks. The waitress told us we couldn’t and that we had to wait 15 minutes, but still allowed us to sit down. During that time, she didn’t even offer us something as basic as a glass of water, and instead sat at the bar using her phone. When she finally came back, there was no apology for the wait. We ordered bao buns, and unfortunately found a hair in the dish. A waiter replaced it, but didn’t apologize — he simply reacted with “Oh.” Shortly after, our main course arrived — duck breast — and once again, there was a hair in the food. At that point, we decided to send it back. Overall, the waitress with long black hair came across as very arrogant and rude, and the service was extremely disappointing. While the food looked beautiful, the taste was completely underwhelming. I’m not picky but here I would not come back ever again.
Amazing experience at Shushuto for our Wedding anniversary. Nice atmosphere and a beautiful Tokyo style decor. A variety of sake based cocktails which were delicious. The ramen and sushi selection look so tasty making a selection is so difficult. The service is very courteous and we had a wonderful time. We took doggy bags because we went overboard with the sushis. I recommend taken a look at their Instagram to get inspired. Would definitely go back 😋
I make it a tradition to eat here on my birthday. I'd eat there more often is I lived closer. 5 stars to the chef - Everything I've eaten thus far has never disappointed me.
Had a great time here! The food was great. We had the udon duck confit and the cheesy udon with beef. They were both very good plates, good portions (took some leftovers home). The duck was a little on the dry side but still very good. The drinks are so good! We had a strawberry mojito and an amaretto sour. Excellent. Waiters were super nice. It took a little while for our food to come, however. All in all I would recommend!
Excellent experience as usual, food is delicious & the drinks are perfect, I recommend expresso martini the orgasma I'll be back next week!!!
Price was steep but fun experience
Delicious food
Nice to trying japanese restaurant
5 stars to Shushoto!!
Nice place for a more chic night out with friends or date, sort on the mid tier pricing when it comes to Japanese food, but the food can be a little hit or miss. Have had the tsukement and Khao Soi dipping ramen before and it was delicious, definately some of my favorite from them, their duck is always really good as well. Sushi fish is fresh, rice is done ok. Was a little dissapointed this time with the katsu steak, the 'self grill' new to the winter menu, it's quite minable. There's not much meat and the coating is rather flavorless and falls apart, it was also quite oily and moist so there was no texture to it. The sauces are ok, the miso butter is delicious, otherwise the "soy wasabi' doesn't really taste of much besides light soy sauce, the rest is just wakfu mayo.
