Years ago, my dad celebrated his birthday here, and we had such a wonderful experience. Because of that, I had been really looking forward to celebrating my own birthday at Shogun. Before ordering, I specifically asked the server if they still offered a special birthday celebration. She said yes, and told me it included a cake, a photo, and a special surprise celebration. She even asked for my name. While we were there, I saw the table next to us receive a small cake with a candle, several servers came over to sing Happy Birthday, and they took photos together. It was exactly the kind of birthday experience I had been expecting. Unfortunately, my experience was completely different. I only received a small piece of cake without a candle. No one sang Happy Birthday, there was no celebration or surprise, and no one even said “Happy Birthday” to me. I had specifically paid the additional fee for the birthday celebration, and I still left a generous tip. I was honestly very disappointed and hurt. I had been looking forward to celebrating my birthday here because of the wonderful memory I had from years ago with my dad. Instead, it turned into a very sad and disappointing birthday. I really hope the restaurant can pay more attention to making sure the birthday experience is consistent for every customer who pays for this service.
