The food was delicious!!! No notes. Everything we had was great. And the staff was so sweet! They gave me two desserts for my birthday on the house. They also gave us an umbrella when we left because it was raining hard. So thoughtful and kind. The place is also so cute!!
What guests say about Sep Lai
Sep Lai seems to be a great find in Montreal, with highly praised Laotian cuisine often described as tasty, fresh, and well presented. The service is generally warm and attentive, and the atmosphere is considered friendly and cozy, with a shareable-plates format and the option to bring your own wine. A few customers do note, however, that portions can sometimes be small, the dining room a bit cramped, and some dishes may occasionally lack flavor or be served lukewarm.

Delicious food, friendly staff. Tons of gluten free options. The sharing platter is highly recommended you get to try a bit of everything. The patio is super nice with sturdy tables and much bigger than you would expect. They are only open for a few hours each day so I suggest you reserve.
Incredible food, so fresh and flavourful. There is something for everyone there, and I would know because I bring everyone.
Cute little restaurant next to canal Lachine. Great for summer days because of their terrace. We had the discovery menu at 52$ per person which gets served in 3 setting. I really liked the appetizers and dessert but some of the main dish had too much onions in it. (for my taste) I also got the Pina colada which was great.(not too sweet) I recommend this place to you if you are in the point saint charles area and would like to try something new!
Very lovely place to eat! Bring your own alcoholic beverages, or buy them at the shop nearby.
It was such a lovely evening! The patio has a good atmosphere and the staff were so charming. The food was amazing, delicate flavours and very tasty. Thank you! We will definitely be return costumers! BTW- the pandan crème brûlée was perfect!!
The space was very nice and the patio was pleasant in Mid May. My first time trying Laotian cuisine so I have nothing to compare it to. The food was solidly good, but not great. Everything could have used like 15% more flavor. Nothing was bad, just a little flat. The shrimp was cooked perfectly but could have used a bit more flavor. Same with the red curry soup. The temperature needs some work too. I got a pot of hot tea that was lukewarm. My soup was lukewarm, as was my shrimp. The food came very fast and service was excellent
Will definitely be back! Cozy place, fresh and full of flavour dishes!
Superbe place ! Delicious and the staff is really nice
Wow! What a little gem of a place. Right by Charlevoix metro, it's super accessible either by public transit or by cycling from the nearby canal bike path. We decided to order the tasting menu for 2, which had most of the items we wanted anyways. Plus, our server modified some items for similar ones that we preferred! The spring rolls were incredibly fresh and tasty, and the peanut butter sauce was pure goodness. Same thing for the soup! I'd say it's not the ideal place for vegetarians as there's a lot of fish and oyster sauce in most of the meals, but it's perfect for pescatarians. They also use local mushrooms and shrimps from Gaspesie. The mini crème brûlée was the perfect ending to the night. They're a shared-table style of restaurant, but the tables are very big so you wouldn't feel much different than at regular tables that are close to each other. I can't wait to come back for the terrasse! Bonus points for it being a BYOW. :)
Sep Lai is quite casual, with food, service, and atmosphere comprable to the casual nature of the restaurant
The portions were too small for the price and not enough to feel full. The meatballs were dry. The desserts were not that impressive.
Every dish had an amazing aroma and flavour. Very friendly service. Shrimp Mok Pai a bit overpriced
Such a warm and charming spot, with truly lovely staff and delicious Laotian food. The prices are more than fair. Our second visit, and definitely not our last.
Was good.
Pro: food is well presented, service is good, cooking and taste ok Con: portion is small, we have to order 2nd round
Everything was absolutely delicious!
the most incredible vegan options, I had the khao poon and green mango salad. I'll be dreaming about your food for a long time :)
Best little local restaurant! The food is always great and … Bring your own wine? What could be better. We can try a new combo of tapas plates every time we go. We always leave more than delighted. Been many times for group menus and events as well- they have a perfect set up.
Fantastic night, food and service. We will definitely be back.
Really enjoyed the delicious Laotian food - which is similar to Vietnamese. The service was friendly and attentive. Decor is homey - also fyi it's BYOB!
