This is a perfect local restaurant in Montreal. I think I dont need to say anything more about that. Come and try if you guys have chance to Montreal.
What guests say about Schwartz's Deli
Schwartz's Deli is highly appreciated for its smoked meat, often described as tender, flavorful, and generous, along with good pickles, fries, poutine, and cherry cola. Several reviews highlight fast service and a classic atmosphere, but the place is often crowded, small, and noisy, with frequent lines. Some customers find the prices high and mention inconsistent experiences, especially with service, cleanliness, or drier dishes depending on the visit.

When I went in summer it was amazing today February in winter it was absolutely awful asked for lean meat the meat was extremely dry and smelly, burned meat not smoked meat
Super overrated the smoked meat was extremely dry and flavourless. Definitely sticking with Dunn’s next time!
Best smoke meat in Montréal! Yoy just can go wrong.
Fantastic ! Nice food, nice people !
Well worth the wait, this place didn't disappoint this first timer with helpful staff who were busy too the time to walk me through a sandwich of my liking!
Montreal staple, the smoke meat sandwich is impeccable as usual. Long lines, customer service very rush rush and usually hard to find place to sit, food makes it worth it though.
It’s nice that it’s an old, well‑known place, but the service and cleanliness could be better, and the food doesn’t really stand out.
An iconic spot for a reason! Fast, friendly service and a really great smoked meat sandwich. We had a lovely experience and would absolutely recommend this place.
So good! I didn’t think I was a smoked meat fan, but I’ve been converted by Schwartz Deli! The service was great and the gentlemen serving us offered to take a picture (we were traveling from out of town) of us without us even having to ask
The sandwich is great but you feel it is a tourist destination also with the prices. Although it definetly worth the visit!
Very busy. Very good. Sandwich pickle fries and cherry cola. Do recommend. It's an institution. Folks sitting next to me gave it the nod over New York.
Cool
The best smoked meat and one of the best samdwiches iv'e ever eaten period. I come here everytime i come to Montreal and i'm never disappointed. Everything on the menu is delicious.
Looooved the smoked meat sandwich, but what I loved the most was Gerry's welcoming and generous soul, thanks a lot Gerry.
Loved the smoked meat sandwich and the regular poutine. Better than the big name in NYC.
When I'm not eating smoked meat from here, I'm dreaming of it. You can't find better.
It's an institution. Can't go wrong
A MUST WHEN IM MONTREAL! PERIOD!
Oh, we’ve all been here, and if you haven’t it’s a good spot for the classics. And don’t skip the pickle! Love the guys who run service here they all have such great personalities
This place is one of the best sandwiches place in town, best smoked meat. Love it.
The bread is very soft, and the layers of beef are well seasoned, tender, and rich with a nice fatty aroma. Personally, I think it tastes even better with a bit more yellow mustard. The fat distribution could be more even — some parts were a little dry and firm, while others were quite fatty. Highly recommend having it with pickles, which really balance the richness of the beef.
I love the food here and especially the pickles... I bought a few jars to take home about a year go and just cracked into third, but to my surprise, they were completely spoiled :( The expiration was for 2027, and my pantry is temp controlled so I don't know what went wrong with them. I would suggest the owner contact the manufacturer, as someone could eat one and get botulism.
Solid experience, would highly recommend.
At first, the old building might look a little unusual from the outside, but once you step in and later walk out, you realize how charming that vintage look and those worn yet lively details truly are. The place has a unique soul and energy that slowly grows on you. As a chef who deeply values food quality and digestive health, I was genuinely impressed when fermented pickles and sauerkraut were served as side dishes. This thoughtful choice showed a real understanding of how food can support the body—paying attention not just to flavor, but also to beneficial bacteria and digestion. The food itself was outstanding. Each dish felt better than the last—from their signature sandwich to the steak, and even the beef liver, all cooked with care and confidence. In short, the people behind this restaurant truly understand the art and science of cooking. They don’t simply serve food; they create balanced meals, thoughtfully pairing sides and main courses in a way that even helps your stomach feel good after the meal.
