Loved Schwartz Deli . Don’t let the line deter you it moves quickly . Highly recommend eating inside to experience it properly. Be warned it is a tight squeeze and you could be sharing a table with strangers but it only added to the fun . Portions are huge and so so delicious. Staff was helpful explaining the menu and throwing in some recommendations. My husband got the traditional smoked meat sandwich which he said melted in his mouth and I got the Chicken combo with was protein overload for all those meat lovers out there . Coleslaw , bread and pickle to top it all off make it the perfect kosher meal .
What guests say about Schwartz's Deli
Schwartz's Deli is highly appreciated for its smoked meat, often described as tender, flavorful, and generous, along with good pickles, fries, poutine, and cherry cola. Several reviews highlight fast service and a classic atmosphere, but the place is often crowded, small, and noisy, with frequent lines. Some customers find the prices high and mention inconsistent experiences, especially with service, cleanliness, or drier dishes depending on the visit.

Love this old school place. There are not many left. I m glad this one is still open.
Best smoked meat sandwich
Smoked meat sandwich was great. Staff was really friendly too. For solo diners or small groups, there is a takeout store right next to the main store. There’s three tables and a bunch of bar seating for the solo diners. No wait.
Great customer service and awesome food. Ordered their smoked meat deli sandwich 🥪 with butter. Totally recommend to go and try it out.
We visit Schwartz's Deli and this was the best what we eat from long time ago..... . We especially come here from Poland !!! All the best ❤️
Unreal.
This place gets crazy busy so you have to know your time slots to visit this place. The meat is always good and always fresh.
Our party of four came to experience this Montreal institution at about 2:30 in the afternoon on a winter Wednesday and were lucky to be seated almost immediately at a table for 6 with two other diners. The tables are very close together. By the time we left there were empty tables. The Montreal smoked meat sandwiches and fries were good with substantial portions. The dill pickles were a disappointment with tough skins and watery inside. Our tablemates had ordered the smoked meat poutine which looked delicious.
It is definitely overrated. I ordered the most famous sandwich and it was salty and dry. Nothing special about it. The place has good marketing and a legacy. Maybe that's why people go there. In reality it is a pretty mid place. Too much meat, small pieces of bread. Too much salt. Very little seasoning.
No trip would be complete without a visit to this historic restaurant. We arrived around 1:30pm and the place was crowded. It was kinda neat that they ask/tell you to sit at a table even with others there. We ordered a couple of smoked meat sandwiches - what else. Lots of tasty meat.
The host and the waiters are so nice and kind very welcoming and it feels like a community rather than restaurant. The food was great .
Best smoked meat sandwich I had in the city! Highly recommend!
Attempted to go inside but line was too long so went in to their take out section. They were quite busy, but staff was borderline rude and there was a lot of variation between everyone’s sandwiches in our group, some full of meat and some barely a sandwich. Mine was very disappointing and basically just scraps and mostly fat. I will give it another try next time in Montreal and hopefully not on a busy Habs game day Saturday. But for my first experience at this iconic deli, I was disappointed to say the least.
The sandwiches are really great! It’s a pretty small store, but the counter was open for us and we were able to dine in. The #4 meat sandwich and #2 poutine were recommended to us - the sandwich was a simple sandwich with a LOT of meat and mustard. Very yummy, the meat was super soft too, but I wish there was a vegetable
Epic experience! 100 ⭐️
Wow,delicious food!
Price is on the higher side but the quality is there.
This was my second time trying Schwartz’s Deli, and I’m really glad I gave it another shot. The first time I had it was during a summer street festival, and honestly, it didn’t live up to the hype. But this time, sitting down in the restaurant completely changed the experience. I was able to customize the meat to be on the fattier side (just how I like it), and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. The smoked meat was rich, flavorful, and perfectly done. I also tried the cherry soda, and it seriously blew my taste buds away such a great addition to the meal. What made the experience even better was the service. Our server who I later noticed was all over the walls (maybe the owner?) was incredibly kind, accommodating, and genuine. He really elevated the whole visit and made it 10x better.
Not what it used to be. I first ate there in 1987 when I was a McGill student and have returned every few years. Somehow the aromatics in the smoked meat tasted less prominently than I remember. Just my subjective opinion. Maybe it's time to try Snowden Deli.
The food was pretty good, though the Montreal smoked meat was a bit bland and so we're the fries. The service was great.
Everything was original and authentic! Food was so so so good and Giovani served us with a heart! He made the experience magical. Thank you and we will come back!
Things don’t need to be complicated. Put together a great smoked meat sandwich; serve it with pickles and coleslaw that enhance the experience of chewing through rich, juicy layers of meat; and put the customers at tables within a short glance of a busy open kitchen. It’s a simple but effective formula. Most notably though, it was something Schwartz’s had done a long time ago to put Montréal on the map. This storied reputation is the reason why there are long lines by their entrance during peak lunch hour. Having experienced it now, I believe folks (from wherever) come because they get to experience a part of this city’s heritage through the medium of a meal. It’s literally a museum exhibition that you put in your mouth. I ordered an extra pound of smoked meat for my flight home to share with the wife. Everything held up, and tasted as good as the moment I got my hot serving at the store. This review ends with a simple conclusion: when in Montréal, dine at Schwartz’s.
I visited during winters non rush hours. Classic sandwich was an absolute banger.
Same as before
