I wasn't sure about going to another Iranian restaurant, but a few friends kept on recommending it to me, so I gave it a try. The atmosphere was OK, a bit on the pale side, but overall it was fine. I liked the way the food was served and the non-alcoholic mojito at the start was a nice touch. The soup was restaurant quality and we enjoyed it. We ordered Barg and Koobideh. The Koobideh was juicy and delicious, but the Barg was a punch in the face. It was bone dry not well pounded, and lacked salt. It also wasn't basted in onion and saffron.

I think Orchidée is one of the best places in Montreal for a truly authentic Iranian dinner. The whole atmosphere feels very Iranian, almost like stepping into a classic kabab house back home. The food is high-quality and full of flavor. The kababs are tender and delicious. The kabab barg is especially soft and tasty, and the kabab torsh, with the aroma of northern herbs, tastes exactly like the ones you’d find in Gilan. The soup of the day was also really comforting and fragrant, especially in Montreal’s cold weather. Mr. Erfan is wonderfully welcoming, and the restaurant has a warm, cozy vibe. If you’re craving authentic Persian food, great kababs, and a friendly atmosphere, I highly recommend it.

Food. The weakest link is the mushroom cream soup they include with all meals. Overly milky and creamy, smell like warm milk before bed with a hint of mushroom. Honestly, it’s not Persian and it’s not good. They would’ve been better off including a proper Osh like other places. The portion was large though. The pita was the worst ive ever had, thin, stale, not warmed up, holes like Swiss cheese and not great for appetizer delivery. Service. Lovely, polite, respectful, but if you’re not a Persian speaker, like many Persian restaurants, servers tend not to be as fluent in English or French as they are in Persian and sometimes it’s a little difficult to community your point. Atmosphere. Lovely. If you like huge tables with lots of room for food placement this is a hit. The chairs are classy but because they are white an of a velour texture, most of them are stained and in real need of a proper cleaning. Wrong color and material for a restaurant. Was there at 6:00 pm on a Sunday. The place was empty. One waitress and I suppose a chef in the back. The place was playing nice Persian music and there was a dance floor with disco lights moving as if there was a party going on. We ordered the classics. Mizra (eggplant) Ghasemi ($9.95) as a starter with an Orchidée Salad ($10.00). For the mains we had Kubideh au boeuf/burger meat ($22.95) and the Joojé kebab ($25.95). The restaurant does not sell alcohol but instead offers some non alcoholic mixed drinks and we received a complimentary virgin Mojito - which was delicious and refreshing. When the soup came, in a huge bowl for at least two to three people with room for seconds, it was not sufficiently warm and clearly was microwaved and had to be sent back ten minutes later it arrived and was still not “hot”, but at this point too much time had passed and we said nothing. The mizra was pretty good, was a little too thick in its consistency and could have been a little smokier but it was better than most places except for Quartier Perse. The salad was noting special, a deconstructed salad with fresh ingredients but the salad dressing was poorly made and lacked seasoning and was too watery. The beef kabob was actually cooked nicely and was reasonably tasty, but it lacked seasoning it was not savoury as compared to most other places. It also seemed to be drenched in melted butter which would account for why it was so juicy but also too oily. The chicken kabob was also cooked perfectly but once again, insufficient level of seasoning and this time it was swimming in a pool of butter ( perhaps oil or oil too), and actually caused my partner to be a little sick later in the evening due to the level of fat from the butter. Both dishes came with a personal portion of Basmati rice with saffron. The rice had a surface of a tadeek, which was light and crisp. The problem was that the rice below had a slight burned scent and taste to it. It’s a catch 22, tadeek or no tadeek - I choose to have tadeek as the rice was not unappetizing, and in many parts was quite tasty though it was not light and fluffy as seen at Quatier Perse. Bit dishes came with a grilled tomato which was partially cooked through and could have used more time on the grill. When the meal was finished it was hard to get the attention of the server as she was deeply entrenched on her smart phone. We waved, we called many times, I even waved the material white napkin to see what her peripheral vision was like and nothing. Then we had to raise our voice a few times to finally weaker her up. Leftover required a takeout container, oddly no bag was provided to take it out. I went here to review this place as it seemed to have high praise, in all honesty I feel spoiled as the Gold Standard for Persian food for decades has been Le Quatier Perse in Decarie Blvd. I will not return as it’s just not worth it. The food is good, but the package is not quality and value and the soup was a big let down as was the salad.

I went to this restaurant with a friend and we ordered lamb shank and rice with fava beans which was great. The taste, the design, and garnish as well as the side dishes were amazing. The only criticism is that they could add more fava beans in the rice, which I like more!
