For the past 10 years, Kazu has been my absolute favorite Japanese restaurant in Montreal, and it’s long overdue that I share how exceptional this place truly is. Every single year, I celebrate my birthday here because I know I’m guaranteed an unforgettable meal. Every plate is a voyage for the palate, crafted with care, precision, and incredible culinary talent. Honestly, I can’t remember a single time I’ve ever been disappointed. The ingredients are always fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and packed with flavor. Their grilled octopus is hands down the best I’ve ever had in my life, and the kama salmon collar — whenever it’s available — is simply out of this world. While the regular menu is consistently excellent, I highly recommend paying special attention to the seasonal dishes written on the small pieces of paper around the restaurant. Those limited-time creations are often the true highlights: refreshing, unique, creative, and an absolute must-try. Kazu isn’t just a restaurant to me — it’s a staple of Japanese cuisine in Montreal and a place that has delivered memorable experiences year after year. If you haven’t been yet, you’re missing something special.

Really great food, amazing and fast service. Was lucky with no lineup, but worth it if you had to wait
Mind-blowing! So good and fresh. Thank you so much
So Yummy! Always!
Hands down my favourite place to eat when I’m downtown. The staff are super friendly, the vibes are great, and the food is always fresh and quick to get. Been there many times and will continue to do so.
Went to this place quite a few times as it was 15 minutes by foot from my office. I knew I enjoyed the food, service and ambience but did not realise how much I would miss it now that I am in Alanya and never see a place like that. When I think Sushi, I am more comfortable when I see really Sushi Chefs and thet did not dissapoint. Love they way they greet everyone when we showed up.
If you’re a fan of authentic cuisines, this place is for you. The live cooking and the authenticity of flavors is on another level. The con is the waiting time and the noise level but still not an obstacle for you to enjoy an amazing culinary journey. Will always go back for the amazing live cooking and new dishes.
This is the best place in Montréal!
Best Japanese in Montreal!
Everything is bite size, but not cheap either. Ngl the worst okonomiyaki I’ve ever had. I thought Japanese people will make it more authentic, but it was honestly very bad. The buta don is literally the same taste as those instant package. They are always rushing you.
one of the best resturants I've been too in Montreal, the food is amazing the atmostphere is great and the brazed beef rib is to die for, if you go there prepare to wait in line
We’re privileged to have this fabulous place in our city
The grilled food is good with Japanese style. But the average price is little bit expensive than other Japanese restaurant. If you love sashimi, don't order the sashimi don here, unless you like don with 1/4 iced sashimi +1/4 rice +1/2 lettuce.
Went here with my girlfriend and WOW… Kazu was actually unreal. This place genuinely brought me back to Japan. The food was so good, full of flavor, super comforting, and honestly amazing value for the price. The katsu curry especially was INSANE. Like holyyyyy 😭 easily one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Crispy, rich, flavorful, comforting… everything about it was perfect. I’m not even exaggerating when I say this is one of the first restaurants that almost made me cry because of how good it was. My girlfriend and I were both so impressed. If you’re in Montreal, you NEED to come here. Easily one of the best spots I’ve tried and I’ll 1000% be coming back.
A must-go for suuuurrreeee. Often a lineup to get in because -if you know, you know-
A very delicious marriage of Japanese and French culinary techniques! The quality of the food is excellent, the staff is warm and attentive, and the atmosphere is inviting. It felt like being in a refined izakaya in Japan.
Their only redeeming quality is their food, otherwise service, atmosphere and seating are garbage. Con: -Very hard to be seated if you're an odd-numbered group. They'll straight up just seat someone else before you. We waited easily 1h30+ outside because they absolutely wanted to fill every single seat and had groups of 2 and 4 skip us consistently even if they arrived after us. -The “daily special” is always some honey leftover cut of meat or fish. SKIP IT. -Service was existent, but does not deserve more than 10% tip. It's so minimal that the food is what makes up for it. -The ice cream was very expensive. A small teacup was 5$. Pro: The tuna & salmon bowl was very tasty. The portions are decent.
My favorite japanese place. My husband proposed me at that place. FYI Typical japanese restaurant like in Japan. You need to wait in line (they don’t take reservations) but it’s worth it 200%. Be patient. The Bar section experience is recommended!! You can be 4 persons but you need to squeeze. The service is excellent and fast. The Owner and his Staff are always smiling and working so hard. Lovely vibe. They are really good people. Awesome team. Food. Wow wow. Different kind of plates (tapas, meal, appetizers, vegeterian stuff.) with different prices. Really affordable. Always fresh, nice presentation, big menu. If you don't know or have never tried, try it. You won't be disappointed. Try the ginger tiramisu and litchi&basilic sorbet and drinks! Well, try everything. Thank you team!
This is the best restaurant in Montreal. Period.
Greatness speaks for itself
JUST Splendid!!
Kazu is a modern Japanese restaurant with a creative twist. The owner brilliantly combines traditional Japanese elements with Western cooking techniques, resulting in dishes that are both innovative and incredibly delicious. If there’s one downside, it’s that there’s almost always a line. But that just proves how much people love the food — it’s so good that everyone is willing to wait for it. Definitely worth it!
Staffs are friendly. Food is really good. Best Japanese restaurant in Montreal.
Favourite Japanese restaurant in Montreal hands down. Everything on the menu is fantastic and it never disappoints.
Best Japanese curry I had in Montreal, it was absolutely amazing and reminded so much of the ones in Japan. We were sat at the bar and it was nice to see the staff work and have a little chat about Japan at the end. 100% will come back but not during winter because of this 1h-wait in line hehe ;-)
