For the price of the dishes for the people at my table, this restaurant was really disappointing. The special Grand Prix menu was very expensive. Some of us ordered the lobster tortellini for $90 and it arrived barely warm and too al dente. Another friend ordered the chateaubriand cooked medium rare (she asked what the chef would recommend) and it arrived medium well done. It had to be sent back. The lamb was excellent, according to my friends. So, the ambience is wonderful and the restaurant very elegant but on this, my second time here, the experience was again, underwhelming. I don’t plan on giving them a 3rd chance. I may return for cocktails but not a meal.

Food was awful Fillet Mignon sauce was Chucky Pasta was hard
Enjoyed a Mother's Day brunch here, what a stunning room. Breathtaking Art Deco venue, loving restored. The staff in all fields was very professional and friendly. Respect to the wait staff, patient and prepared for anything....the cream jackets they wear definitely add to the ambiance of the 1930's. The buffet was delicious, varied and well supplied. Coffee was superb. Confidently, great value!!! When one visits, a washroom gander is a must...very grand and true to the era. Looking forward to a regular Sunday brunch soon. Thank you for such a memorable day.
I have enjoyed my 2 visits to this restaurant as I did it previously to the bar. The service is very warm, details oriented and the atmosphere is upscale without necessarily feeling uptight. I came here for a brunch and then for dinner and both experiences were great. It is important to notice that you should come with a wide range of time as it takes a while to get your food but with couple of drinks or a nice bottle of wine and the amazing service of the waiters Alexandre or Dorine you would be fine. The décor is beautiful, the view is stunning, and the atmosphere strikes that rare balance between upscale and genuinely comfortable. I would probably spend every weekend here if I could — but unfortunately, this is my last weekend in Montreal before moving to another city.
This nostalgic place has been preserved so beautifully. The music, ambiance and service are fantastic. We really enjoyed our meals, the pancake was a standout, and the tartine. The babka was delicious!
Went there for a company event. Fantasit service and food. Recommend the tartare, the gnocchetti. Great also the fish, but under tartare. Absolutely recommended. Sorry no photos :-(
We had an exceptional experience at the restaurant. Valérie was absolutely wonderful kind, attentive, and made us feel truly special. The entire staff was amazing, creating such a warm atmosphere. And the food? Outstanding! The oysters were the best I’ve ever tried. Every dish was a delight. We can’t wait to return!” Must try!!!!
Dispointed by this place. I had high expectations, the restaurant in itself is beautiful but the food was ok and the service was not great either. Best service was by the busboy. After 20 minutes no one came, had to ask someone to come see us. Ordered coffee, they only brought 3 out of 4. Then another 15 minutes with no one taking our order. We had to call someone again. Ordered oysters, there were good but took forever to arrive. We were there for brunch, overpriced for the actual food. You can have better quality, taste and service elsewhere for same price or less. I still give 3 starts because it was not all bad, but not great either. Food tasted decent and beautiful location.
Had a Saturday brunch in here, so the good: the space is really spacious, pretty on the eye, elegant decor and the right music to go with the rest of the atmosphere. The bad: service was slow and lacking, we had to wait a significant amount of time before putting in our order for the drinks and noone came to explain the menu, we had to call them. Same thing for the refills of the coffee, had to be called every time. The food wasn't bad, but wasn't great either, especially for the price tag. Overall, for the quality of the food and service that this restaurant supposed to catter to, it just missed the mark, especially in Montreal where there is no shortage of better restaurants.
We went to 9e for my girlfriend’s birthday. It was my first visit and her second. For our starters, I ordered the scallops and she ordered the beef tartare. They were okay, but nothing exceptional, and definitely not comparable to the quality we have experienced in restaurants in France. The biggest disappointment was the main course. We ordered the ribeye steak for two, priced at $200, which is their signature and most expensive item. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. There was nothing memorable about it, the quality did not feel particularly high, and it was extremely heavy with butter, to the point where it overpowered the dish. Overall, considering the restaurant’s reputation and the price, we expected a much more refined and memorable experience. The dinner was definitely not worth the $420 we paid. The staff were very friendly and attentive, which we appreciated, but unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations. For this price, there are many other high-end restaurants in Montreal that offer much better quality and a more enjoyable dining experience.
A beautifully renovated resto. Elegant yet keeping some of its vintage charm. We went for lunch but got we got lost in the shuffle and service was very very slow. Our waitress and the hostess were apologetic. We enjoyed the starters: shrimp cocktail and steak tartar. Then we had a the Niçoise and the Artic char. The dishes were nicely presented. However, the fish was overcooked. The tuna which we were told would be seared, it was over cooked too. The beans with the fish were undercooked and the lettuce was a rough leaf. So not our favourites.
The building and restaurant with art deco vibe is beautiful. We were a big group and the room was small. The service was excellent, despite the challenges. The food was good but doesn’t stand out in any particular way.
Went there to celebrate my partner's birthday. The decor is magnificent, our group felt like we were traveling back in time. Food is pricy but delicious. Staff was friendly and super efficient. We noticed every staff we walked by on our way out said goodbye.
Le 9 at Île-de-France delivered a memorable evening, with a few standout moments that truly elevated the experience. The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the seafood tower, beautifully curated by Daniel Notkins. Not only was it visually stunning and incredibly fresh, but what made it exceptional was Daniel himself. He took the time to walk us through every element of the tower, sharing his deep knowledge of oysters and seafood with genuine passion. It was refreshing and honestly rare these days to encounter someone so informed and eager to enhance the dining experience through storytelling and expertise. The rest of the meal was mostly delicious, and service overall was fine, but it lacked that same level of engagement. Our server didn’t offer much explanation about the other dishes we ordered, which felt like a missed opportunity. There’s something special about understanding where your food comes from and the thought behind each component on the plat it deepens your appreciation and enjoyment. Daniel’s approach brought back a sense of nostalgia for what dining in Montreal used to feel like before COVID, when servers were more connected to the food they served and eager to share that knowledge. That personal touch made all the difference, and it’s something I truly miss. While Le 9 excels in quality, decor and ambiance, it was Daniel who made the experience unforgettable.
Last night we spent the evening at Restaurant Ile de France-Le 9e in Montreal..and it was one of the best experiences we’ve had. It was like passing time on a movie set..one of the best Art Deco spaces in North America. We ate the Arctic char..perfectly cooked, a lovely salad and good value. Not to be missed!
We decided to try something different for our couples anniversary and it did not disappoint. Service was excellent, food was succulent and fresh, atmosphere was cozy, chic but relaxing with some nice background music. All an all well worth the money considering the quality and quantity. A must try.....
Gabriel was an amazing waiter, was very attentive, and always checking in on our table
GREAT decor, elegant, excellent service, food, open, bright, and airy! Definitely worth a repeat visit !!!!!!
So this place is more about the hype. It’s beautiful and worth visiting but that’s where is stops. Food was ok but expensive for what you are eating and nothing spectacular to praise. Service people were nice but food was extremely slow to come out and we barely saw them. So all in all the expense is not worth it. Maybe just go to the bar get a drink and that’s it ?
Food is excellent and atmosphere is on point. However, our food took around 1.5 hours to arrive as of being seated. The restaurant was busy but that is not acceptable. Nothing was offered in compensation such as a drink or appetizer.
Great food and great friendly service.
Great place! REAL DECO ATMOSPHERE.
Jonathan at the French line bar is the best bartender hands down. I was there yesterday and he was the best bartender I’ve ever had. Period. Amazing.
High end restaurant of course but surprisingly inexpensive compared to others in the same category
Service was good and portions were decent.
