Food was delicious but took over 1h30 to arrive.. Waiters were friendly.

The tomahawk steak iwas okay but when it comes to the seafood, the really lacked flavors. We took the surf and turf for 3 people and the seafood was... meh.. Good vibes and service was good overall, but i was disappointed with the quality and taste of the seafood, even the butter sauce had no taste..
We had a reservation at 10:00 AM. When we arrived, we were seated right away, but we had to wait quite a while for the waitress assigned to our table to bring us menus—which she never did. We ended up having to ask another server. To be honest, my experience was horrible from start to finish. After some time, the waitress finally came to take our order. She brought out the onion soup appetizer, and my boyfriend decided to add another appetizer of six shrimp. It was also very cold where we were seated. I asked the waitress if she could close the front door, and she said yes—but she never did. We then asked to change tables, which she agreed to, and we were moved. After that, we waited about 45 minutes (or more) for the shrimp. During that time, our waitress never came back to check on us. We had to ask another server for help, who then called her over. She came briefly, when to the kitchen.. come back said nothing, and then went straight to the bar and didn’t return. About 15 minutes later, a server brought a plate to our old table, where new guests were now seated, and then left. We realized it was likely our order. We had to call another waitress again because ours never came back. Eventually, they took the plate back to the kitchen and returned a couple of minutes later with shrimp they claimed were “new.” However, the shrimp were cold, dry, and clearly not fresh. When we pointed this out, the waitress got upset, walked away, and said we wouldn’t be charged. We then waited another 20 minutes for our main dishes. When the food finally arrived, it was disappointing—everything was dry and not fresh. The service was extremely poor, and even when we expressed our concerns, no one seemed to care. The waitress later brought the bill with an attitude, which was surprising considering she was mostly absent and spent most of her time at the bar. Overall, this was a very frustrating experience. Poor service, long wait times, lack of attention, and low-quality food. Definitely not worth it.
Inappropriate and unacceptable behavior
This is our second time and Grinder in Montreal absolutely exceeded expectations. We started with the burrata paired with aubergine cream—perfectly balanced with apple vinegar and chili flakes—and a bluefin tuna tartare that was incredibly fresh with a standout marinanation and sauce. For mains, everything hit. The 9 oz bavette was cooked beautifully and full of flavor, the Grinder burger was tender and juicy, and the octopus with crispy potatoes was honestly out of this world. Even the sides were memorable—the baby sprouts were insanely good, and the creamy bacon potatoes were just as impressive. For dessert, I tried pudding chômeur for the first time, and it was unforgettable. The rich buttery texture, combined with the sweet syrup and vanilla ice cream, made it one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. The atmosphere really ties it all together: friendly and attentive service, great music, and one of the best IPA beers I’ve had in Montreal. At around $80 CAD per person, it’s absolutely worth it. I’ll be coming back every time I’m in Montreal.
Best spot in Griffintown
Went with a large group last weekend, Jacob was our server and did a great job with helping us celebrate our friend's birthday. It was a busy night but the flow of the night was perfect, shared the surf and turf platter. Food was really tasty, scallops were a tad small but made up for it in flavour. Steak was super tender and perfectly cooked. Would go back.
What an amazing experience! We had the surf and turf and it was just incredible. We also had the ice cream and pudding chômeur oh my! Soooo good :-) We were served by Janelle and her service was excellent. Thank you!!!!
My second time here, I regret not writing a review the first time. Anyways, Sadya, you were amazing with the service, thank you for making our second visit a memorable one. The food is top notch and the wine selection is excellent. Will look forward to my next visit here when I'm back in Montreal.
I had the calamari and the halibut. Both were delicious. Each dish was cooked to perfection and paired with rich, flavorful sauces. This was my second time at Grinder in the same week. What really makes the experience worth coming back for is the attentive service. I had Alejandro both times, and he delivers a level of service that’s rare to find. Service is an art form, and they truly get it at Grinder. Highly recommend.
Gianni and Raymer were absolutely amazing!! Great service, food was delicious. Would definitely just come back for them
All the food was amazing but service was questionable, they kept forgetting to bring us things that came with our dishes. I would still recommend.
Good food and atmosphere Love the podding ice cream
Grinder is a name to take seriously. I thought I would just have a main dish with a side, maybe dessert, and leave. That did not happen. This restaurant really understands how to deliver an experience that keeps you wanting to order more and more. The food, the atmosphere, and the service made the whole evening feel worth it. A very good experience overall.
Excellent birthday celebration, service was top notch. Zatya- hope I am spelling it correctly, was an amazing server. From the wines to the food the Grinder experience is a must in Montreal.
Excellent service de Sadya et Janelle !!! Top waitresses! Thank you girls
We ordered the surf and turf for two and chose the ribeye, which was excellent! The sides were very good as well, and while everything else was solid, nothing particularly stood out. It’s nice to have a variety of options, but overall it didn’t quite feel worth the price. The staff were amazing and great vibe!
Excellent wow beautiful and likes it 😍❤️😍❤️😍😍❤️
We ordered a table for two to celebrate the birthday. Surf and turf for two is great, steak is so tasty, the sea fruit are good quality too. Next time we want to try the burgers, seems very good too.
Had the pleasure of checking out Grinder for a work dinner and overall had a really enjoyable evening. The restaurant itself is beautiful — stylish interior, very clean, and thoughtfully designed. They also offer coat check and valet, which is a nice touch. One thing that stood out is that the restaurant has a butcher shop connected to it, which adds to the overall concept and quality feel of the place. I started at the bar while waiting for my boss, and the service throughout the night was excellent. Attentive, quick, and professional without feeling overly formal or pretentious, which I appreciated. The wine list is also extensive. To start, I ordered the calamari, which was fantastic. The batter was crisp and light, and it came with a creamy jalapeño sauce that had a nice balance of tang and spice. Easily one of the better appetizers of the night. For my main, I had the filet mignon with mushroom sauce and a baked potato. The steak itself was decent, though slightly chewier than I would normally expect from a filet. The baked potato, however, was the standout — loaded with a thick layer of cheese, sauce, and bacon. Very indulgent and delicious. The steak and baked potato came out on the cooler side but the loaded cheese made up for it. For dessert I ordered pudding chômeur with soft serve vanilla ice cream. It was warm, moist, and comforting with a rich brown sugar base. The portion was perfect, though it did get a little sweet toward the end. Overall, the vibe of the restaurant was great — lively but not stuffy. Service was excellent and the experience was really enjoyable. I’d definitely come back, and next time I might try the burger because it looked incredible on other tables.
Food was really good! The drinks as well! It was a march break Monday night out but the ambiance was nice!
Ordered the 2 person plateau with lobster, scallops and rib eye steak- great presentation, great taste.
Had an absolutely wonderful dining experience here! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations. The food was exceptional - fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor. The portions were generous and well worth the price. The restaurant was clean and well-maintained, and despite being busy, we didn't feel rushed. The dessert was the perfect ending to our meal. We'll definitely be returning soon and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal and excellent service. Five stars!
Nice dim light date night atmosphere. Not to get confused with the Grinder Butcher shop on the next block.
On Valentine’s Day, we reserved a table for two at Grinder for our first visit — and it truly exceeded our expectations. When we arrived, a very kind gentleman named Etienne welcomed us warmly and showed us to our table. Shortly after, our waiter Devin took care of us with such professionalism and genuine kindness. The atmosphere was vibrant yet romantic — perfect for a special evening. We started with the Wagyu beef carpaccio and fried calamari, both absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. For our main course, we originally ordered the 40 oz Côte de Bœuf to share. After our appetizers, Etienne kindly informed us that they had unfortunately run out of it and offered two 20 oz New York style steaks instead. We agreed, and the way he handled the situation was incredibly thoughtful and professional. To make up for the inconvenience, Etienne generously offered us complimentary cocktails. He even came back to confirm our drinks and surprised us with three cocktails, personally joining us for a cheerful toast and wishing my boyfriend a happy birthday. That personal touch made the night so special. Our steaks were outstanding — perfectly cooked and full of flavor. To end the evening, they brought us a dessert with ice cream on the house for my boyfriend’s birthday, which was such a sweet gesture. Everything from the service to the food and atmosphere was exceptional. A huge thank you to Etienne and Devin for making our night so memorable. We highly recommend Grinder and will definitely be back!
