Review: Boustan – A Culinary "Sure, Why Not?"If you’ve ever found yourself wandering downtown Montreal at 3:00 AM wondering, "What’s the most efficient way to ensure I smell like garlic for the next three business days?" Boustan is your North Star. It’s the restaurant equivalent of a participation trophy: it’s there, it’s functional, and it technically meets the definition of food. Here’s the breakdown of my latest visit to this pillar of "it’ll do. "The AtmosphereThe decor can best be described as "Industrial Fluorescent." It’s the kind of lighting that makes you realize every mistake you’ve made in your life since 2014. The seating is ergonomically designed to ensure you don’t stay a second longer than necessary, which is helpful, because the soundtrack is usually the rhythmic thwack-thwack-thwack of a dull knife hitting a cutting board and a fridge humming in a minor key. The Culinary "Highlights"The Shawarma: I opted for the classic chicken. The meat had that signature texture—somewhere between "succulent" and "I’ve been rotating on this spit since the Dionne quintuplets were born. "The Garlic Sauce (Toum): Boustan doesn’t use garlic sauce as a condiment; they use it as a structural sealant. It’s potent enough to peel paint off a car, but honestly, it’s the only thing providing flavor to the cardboard-adjacent pita. The Potatoes: Ah, the legendary Boustan potatoes. They were lukewarm, slightly soggy, and seasoned with enough salt to make a cardiologist weep. They’re like French fries that gave up on their dreams. The Verdict Category RatingNotes Flavor5/10 Tastes mainly of "White Sauce. "Speed9/10 They’ll have your wrap ready before you’ve even finished regretting it. Ambience2/10 Great if you enjoy the "Interrogation Room" aesthetic. Value7/10 It's cheaper than therapy, but the long-term effects are similar. Final Thoughts: Boustan isn't a destination; it's a consequence. It’s the place you go when every other option involves effort, or when your taste buds have entered a temporary state of hibernation. It is consistently, aggressively... fine.
Reviews / Ratings for Restaurant Boustan
Really friendly staff. Personally, this is my favorite shawarma that I've had in the city. The coleslaw on a shawarma is a nice touch - adds a nice crunch/texture.
They do not do proper cleaning on the table and the food is very tasteless
Boustan is always a fantastic choice when you’re craving fast, flavorful Middle Eastern food. Everything is served quickly without sacrificing quality, which makes it perfect for a quick lunch or an easy dinner. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold and authentic, and the ingredients always taste fresh. One of the best things about Boustan is the variety. Whether you eat meat or prefer vegetarian or vegan options, there’s something for everyone. From falafel and hummus to fresh salads and plant-based plates, the selection is impressive and satisfying. Fast, delicious, and consistently good every time.
Seems too expensive Too noisy of loud TV
Ordered sharma bowl. The taste was good but too much rice instead of salads and chicken. I literally dump the half meal because couldn’t eat dry rice as my plate was filled with more rice and less chicken/salads.
