I ordered lunch from Boustan through Uber Eats app and shortly after received a call from the restaurant saying they couldn’t provide one of the items I ordered (soup) because they wouldn’t be getting their food delivery until the next day. They offered a salad instead, which I declined, and I asked for a refund. The person on the phone advised me to cancel the order in the app to receive my refund. Unfortunately, this turned out to be terrible advice. After canceling, Uber Eats informed me that since the restaurant had already accepted the order, I was not eligible for a refund and would also be charged a cancellation fee. When I explained that I only canceled because the restaurant told me to, Uber said I should have contacted support through the app first — but how was I supposed to know that when I was following the restaurant’s instructions? This was Uber’s response: “Since the order was canceled from your end after the merchant accepted the order and it was within the time frame provided by the merchant, you are charged for this order and no adjustment can be made.” As for the restaurant’s response — it was basically, “We didn’t have what you ordered, so there’s nothing we can do.” Overall, very frustrating experience and poor customer service on both ends. Just a warning to others: be cautious when ordering and don’t cancel an order based on a restaurant’s advice without contacting Uber Eats support first — it could cost you.
