What guests say about Pimento's Cuisine des Caraibes
Pimento’s Caribbean Cuisine in Laval often receives very positive comments for the flavor of its dishes, especially the jerk chicken, fried chicken, patties, and generous portions. The service is often described as friendly and efficient, but a few customers have reported long waits, order mistakes, and an occasionally unpleasant welcome. The restaurant seems to be especially appreciated for the quality of the food and its good value for money, even though consistency and cleanliness are sometimes called into question.
Reviews / Ratings for Pimento's Cuisine des Caraibes
My rating might be a little biased because I’ve lived in Jamaica, but I found the food a bit too dry. Although we waited 20min, the festivals were room temperature (didn’t taste fresh) and the jerk chicken was over cooked/slightly burnt. The fish balls were fresh, but didn’t have much taste, more like fried dough. The patty was pretty good. I wanted hot sauce, they charged me 1$ - i had already paid for the food.. Overall it wasn’t awful, but it didn’t taste like authentic Jamaican food, more like commercialized Jamaican food.
I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while, and after seeing ALK’s reviews, I decided to visit the Laval location. Unfortunately, the owners were not there today (Saturday, May 16th, afternoon) I ordered the large jerk chicken plate with a mango drink, a water bottle, and a patty. At first, the cashier seemed okay and greeted me, but I noticed she never greeted my girlfriend. After we sat down, we realized she forgot to give us the water bottle we paid for. I brought the receipt back to the cashier and politely said, “Sorry, we didn’t get the water bottle we paid for. Could we please have it?” She then looked at me as if I had offended her and responded with, “Ohhh OKhayyyyy… do you want the water bottle now?” in a very sarcastic and attitude-filled tone. Honestly, if a customer politely asks for something they already paid for, there’s no need for attitude or making it awkward. She could have simply handed over the bottle and moved on. I replied, “Yes please, my girlfriend would like the water bottle,” and she finally gave it to us. While waiting for the rest of the order, I noticed another customer also seemed to be having an issue with her order, although that’s unrelated to my experience. When our order was ready, she called us up but didn’t offer us any utensils or even napkins. Meanwhile, I noticed she offered utensils to another customer. At that point, my girlfriend and I just left the restaurant. In my opinion, the cashier lacked customer service skills and came across as bossy and rude. If a customer pays for something and politely asks for it, there’s no reason to respond with attitude. A little more professionalism and customer service training would go a long way because one bad experience can affect future business. I may still give the original West Island location a try, but I don’t think we’ll be returning to the Laval location because we genuinely didn’t feel welcomed. On top of that, I had ordered a macaroni salad, but it wasn’t included and wasn’t even on the receipt, so I didn’t bother bringing it up. Now for the actual food review: Overall rating: 7/10 The chicken was good — nicely charred, tender, and enjoyable. However, I felt it could have used a bit more seasoning or spice. I tried the sauce as well, but personally, I didn’t enjoy it. The rice was very bland and lacked flavor. I’ve had Jamaican food many times before, and I usually expect more seasoning or flavor in the rice. Maybe that’s just their style. The plantains were average, and the patty wasn’t very good. It was flaky and fell apart while eating it, and the taste felt pretty generic. The coleslaw/salad also wasn’t really to my liking. The mini donut was a nice touch though. Overall, I stand by my 7/10 rating. If the customer service had been better and the rice had more flavor, I probably would have rated it higher. (Also please note that this place is more of a takeout spot as they do not have any washrooms here, so you might have to use a toilet at the resto or another place next door if you need to use the washroom) Like I said, I may still give the West Island location a chance.
OMG...the best caribbean food that I have had in Montreal, the taste and portions unbelievable. Go try it out for yourselves.
Amazing food and great service
Food is good but service needs to be reevaluated
There’s bit of a wait but the food was definitely worth it !
Had to wait because of a lineup to get food but omg it was well worth it! Their chicken was amazing!
They always out of curry 😞
Fried salmon plate was great!!! We need one of these restaurants on the southshore. Fish cakes we really good too.
The food is absolutely delicious. I came shortly after opening, and there were already several people who ordered and were waiting for their food. It gets crowded in the lobby, and there's no dining area (i.e., no tables), so plan to take your food and leave.
Even though it was too busy for me to order tonight, I was so impressed by the staff. Despite the stress and some difficult customers, the team remained polite and professional. The cashier, in particular, was amazing and kept a smile through it all. A true lesson in grace under pressure. Keep it up! The food is always fantastic!
I went there with my girlfriend a few days ago had a plate of fried chickens , a plate of jerk Chicken and a jamaican patty with vert ting and rose ting the cashier was super nice
i love yall
It’s so exciting to finally have a new Caribbean spot in the city! You usually have to head further south or west in Montreal to find authentic Jamaican food, so it’s really nice to see Pimento’s Cuisine open a location in Laval. I tried the fried chicken, jerk chicken, and BBQ jerk chicken. Everything was juicy, packed with flavour, and cooked perfectly. I’m partial about the rice (I’m Haitian 😅), but theirs was beautifully fragrant with coconut and thyme..really good! I tried festivals for the first time, love it! Sweet plantains and gravy sauce were okay. The cod fish fritters were crispy without being greasy, with just the right kick of spice🌶️🔥 The only thing I didn’t really enjoy were the side salads (coleslaw and macaroni); I personally prefer them more savory, and these leaned on the sweeter side. But overall, everything was delicious and I’ll definitely be ordering again!
Amazing bbq fried chicken and fluffy festivals, I have gone there 4 times and I am always pleased.
We purchased two Jerk chicken meals for takeout. The chicken was delicious , well seasoned and juicy however the coleslaw had an odor (similar to when food is left out for several days ) Not sure if its because we ordered closer to closing time because Ive never had any issues with previous meals.
Disgusting atmosphere don’t even say thank you or your welcomes just walk past you like they dont care about you never going there again
Order two goat platters for me and my hubby. VERY GOOD. As a Jamaican I am completely satisfied.
Delicious
Absolutely BOMB halal Jamaican food!!! Coming back to try the whole menu for sure
The food is Amaaaazingggggg! My new obsession
How do you forget to put ANY jerk sauce on a jerk chicken plate ? There was no bite, kick or heat at all in the chicken 😂 The place was not busy at all when I placed my order... Absurd. And portion was feeble.
Best jamaican take out in the city. Very tender and flavourful fried bbq chicken and jerk chicken. Wish they would put pictures of the plate sizes on the website. I took a small jerk chicken without knowing its actual size and i ended up wanted more
We need the oxtails back !
