!!!They change the price as you pay!! Cash only they don’t tell you - we were here for an hour and not one mention. ATM looks sketchy and said it was “updating my account” before it gave an error message. Also took over 30 mins for my girlfriend’s plate to come out while the other dishes already came. Was told that it’s not necessary to tell customers that it’s cash only which in my opinion is disrespectful to your clients. Better pho restaurants in the neighbourhood.
Reviews / Ratings for Pho Bang New York
cash only but they won’t tell you that. sketchy atm that scans your bank account. rude waiter, rude cashier, no veggie options and one dish took 30 mins longer than everything else. avoid!! many better places nearby. the server made a scene, embarrassed us, they tried to take my phone and put information in my banking app. so inappropriate and so rude. would never ever come back here and will be telling everybody i know to avoid this place. at the end they tacked 7 dollars onto the total they gave us.
Pho is okay not that authentic . Keep in mind that they don’t accept credit card payment which is quite inconvenient for tourist like me
They're forcing tips, and their food is so unseasoned, lacks of salt. Im a student and they were not letting me leave without tipping when did this become the US. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
The beef soup Pho is a little stink but okay. The owner is nice but The server with the facial hair is very rude.
The food was unseasoned and bland. The presentation might look nice, but don’t be fooled, it was a HUGE disappointment. The customer service was just as bad as the food. They demanded tips and wouldn’t let us leave without tipping, even ridiculing us for not wanting to. Why should I tip for poor service? Overall, the experience was horrible. You’re honestly getting scammed.
Absolute trash service and disgusting tip culture. I went the first time and since they only accept cash and didn’t have enough to give them an 18% tip the second time I went they took revenge. Gave us 40% less of the portions every other customer got and were super rude the entire time. Never go here.
Bun Bo Hue was good. It was worth the wait.
The only upside is that the food has small formats available. Customer service was horrible, I got asked 3 times to leave tip even if I already left some. And they only take cash!! At some point I got scared. I will never go back to this place.
Although the food is alright, the service really left a sour taste in my mouth. One of their waiter was rude when I ate there. I left some tip at the cashier but a little less since I was not satisfied with the service. But they had the audacity to harass us for more tip after we paid, saying that we didn't leave any... Coupled with the fact that they only take cash (which I normally don't let bother me) but this was just too much. I won't ever go back to this place after this interaction.
Horrible service and asked for a tip after, embarrassing
The food is fresh and delicious, but the service was terrible. The staff were rude and made the experience uncomfortable. What bothered me the most was being pressured to pay a tip of over 15% in a cash-only restaurant.
I recently visited this establishment and had an extremely unpleasant experience regarding their tipping practices. After paying at the counter, I left a $1 tip, which is a standard courtesy for counter service. Shockingly, the staff member followed me to my table, returned the money, and explicitly told me that a "dollar is too cheap." This level of tip-shaming and aggressive entitlement is completely unacceptable. It is deeply disappointing to experience this kind of unprofessional behavior, which not only ruins the reputation of this specific restaurant but also leaves a terrible impression of the hospitality culture in Quebec and Canada as a whole. Harassing a customer over a voluntary counter tip is simply pathetic. I will not be returning, and I strongly advise others to be aware of this attitude before visiting.
Delicious Pho, cheap prices, and a pleasant atmosphere. The grilled chicken pho was superb
We've been waiting in line for a long time, the two of us. And when the next table became available, they sited 4 people who were way behind us. 10-15 minutes later another table became available vand they did exactly the same thing - sitter another group of four instead of 2 and 2 or 2 and 1 which were planty including us and people behind. I understand when they have only 2 sits available and they let 2 people going ahead of others but not the other way around. I'm very disappointed.
Terrible experience, 1st: they only accept cash. 2nd: they don't give you a receipt. 3rd: There's an atm machine charging fees for the withdrawal. I asked the cashier to add a $2 tip on the bill for a total of $33.5. But then the waiter came again with the tray yelling at me asking for 5 dollars more in tips, as I didn't have a receipt I couldn't show him, so I left $2.50 more and not the 5 he was asking for, I had him on my back yelling things at me and he didn't believe me I had left a tip already... so in total they wanted to force me pay $7.50 in tips! Never coming back to this restaurant, it's overcrowded and food is also average
I was very disappointed with my experience. The service was terrible, and the staff’s attitude toward customers was rude and dismissive. Being forced to pay despite such poor service felt unreasonable and frustrating. The food was also quite unseasoned and lacked the authenticity and depth of flavor you would expect from Vietnamese cuisine. Overall, the experience did not live up to expectations, and I wouldn’t recommend this place unless they seriously improve both their service and food quality.
When we realized it was cash only, we were about to switch restaurent. The waiter said e-transfer was fine and insisted us to stay. We ordered and the food came fast. The pho was alright. When we got to the cashier, she said we don't accept e-transfer and so she directed me back to the waiter. The waiter tells me to talk back to her so it was a lot of back and forth. This whole process took 15 min before they finally let me pay by e-transfer then they tell you aggressively to tip.
This shop only accepts cash. Be careful about how much change they give you after you pay, especially if you are studying math or coming from overseas.
A rare restaurant where taxes are actually included in the prices. It's honest and transparent - I love that. The pho is also great and free tea is served at the table. The prices are quite a bit higher now than that were a few years ago though - gone are the days of getting a meal here for $10. It's more around $15-$20 today.
Service great, delicious fresh food!!! Never dissapoints
Delicious pho. In my opinion ,it’s the best pho in montreal. Sometime the new workers forget some of the order ,but the experienced workers are amazing . Sadly ,its cash only but its cheap and delicious and has a atm 🏧
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ re-visit 2026 QA check 🙏 One of the Best Phở Experiences in Montreal Chinatown Pho Bang New York never disappoints. I ordered the phở đặc biệt (large), and it was outstanding from the first sip to the last bite. The broth is crystal clear, deeply aromatic, and perfectly balanced—rich without being heavy. The bowl was generously loaded with a variety of tender beef cuts, silky rice noodles, and topped with fresh onions, cilantro, and green onions. Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and prepared with care. The large size is truly satisfying and great value for the price. Served piping hot with a fresh plate of basil and bean sprouts, the phở arrived quickly despite the restaurant being busy. Service was efficient and professional, exactly what you want when you’re craving real Vietnamese comfort food. If you’re in Montreal’s Chinatown and want authentic, no-frills, high-quality phở, this is the place. The phở đặc biệt lớn here is a must-order. Highly recommended.
I've tried them everywhere and this is the best pho joint in Montreal. The communal seating is kind of funny - you never know who you'll have lunch with lol. It is a good thing, in that if you're just one or two people, you almost never have to wait, which is surprising, since the place is always packed.
