I don't know why I feel it's not as good as the Outremont Branch. But I love Alex Platel. Specially the pastries. The kouign amann is my favorite, plus gianduja croissants. But other are so good too. I have tried almost every pastry here. The are all lovely. Soft, fresh, tasty, buttery, just perfect. The cakes are also very good. I love passion-pistach combination. What I don't like (and it's not their fault) is butter cream. Regular cream is softer and lighter. But many cakes here are made with butter cream. Thank you Alex for baking A+ pastry for us!

above the majority Westmount has been blessed and proportionately far more spoiled by the high end of artistic sweets commonly known under the name and form of pastries than gastronomic fares. We can speak of Gascogne now in mourning of its refined delicacies. The gossip has "Rhubarbe" on Laurier deserving praise. But the gods who adorn our city must be celebrated, because their passage which brings us honor is only ephemeral. Christian Faure, this venerable magician of dough and chocolate, takes flight to Laval. Not a total loss but a local loss! Pastry chefs exit the alcoves to fill this void and this challenge. Westmount had this opportunity to see them set up their base at the corner of Sherbrooke and Claremont. Now we see Alex Platel in a new dimension flattering the multiple classics deployed in sparkling shades. It may be the religieux, the rum baba or the éclair that sparks the interest indulging your choice. It's the texture and the quality ingredients melting gently that will intoxicate you, begging you to savor this sweetness. Don’t be enticed by my comments, but rather allow your taste buds the privilege of perception of this smooth delectable charm. On a pragmatic note, their price being lower and the quality exceeding their competitors add justification for your detour. So, take a break, and allow Alex Platel’s exquisite creations to render sweet pleasure. JL Bourque, passionate gastronome

I went in December to ask him to make a chocolate train decoration for my son's wedding. He asked me to wait until after Christmas. I went to the store in January to speak to him in person, and followed up with an email. No reply, but an apology when I went to the store in early February. He said it would be difficult, but he would enjoy the challenge. With 3 weeks until the wedding, I followed up again and was told they would contact me soon with the details. Another week went by, so with 2 weeks left I go an email saying it was too difficult and they wouldn't be able to make my train. Now it's too late to go anywhere else or even buy a mold myself. Poor follow up with customers, and over promising and underdelivering mean that I will never shop there again. So sorry I trusted him with this job.

The shop is lovely esthetically with various seating arrangements. Chai Latte was acceptable made with a tea bag. The most disturbing aspect was finding the cup with a significant chip on the rim after consuming half of the tea. I immediately inquired with concerns regarding possible glass chip on the bottom. The server claimed the chip was evident when preparing the beverage Did not offer to make a replacement latte. Major infection control issue as well as possible trauma to an innocent customer. I suggested the cup be recycled. The server seemed reluctant!!!!!

This is the kind of place that stays open not because their offerings are great nor is the service exemplary; they stay open because there’s no competition.
