I can’t even begin to state how delicious the meals at Nama were. So thoughtfully curated, so well presented and incredibly tasty! We decided on the 135$ set course meal and we received 10 items in total, and I couldn’t tell you what our favorite dish was as everything was delicious! The set menu came with generous portions of a carpaccio, a scallop/endive dish, a squash/stracciatella dish, a fried eggplant katsu, a roasted brusselsprout dish, 4 types of nigiri, 2 types of makis, a duck/foie gras main and 2 desserts. If you ever go, everything we had was so delicious so you truly cannot go wrong with anything you select, but I HIGHLY recommend trying the eggplant (one of the best eggplants dishes I’ve ever had) and the sake desert!!! Now, for those of us who enjoy ambiance and finish selections at restaurants, what a truly gorgeous experience it was to eat at Nama. From the beginning of the night, you are greeted with such class and such service that just further built the ambiance to a luxurious level for us. Our waiter was intentional, detail oriented and though we went on Valentine’s Day weekend and they were very busy, we never felt forgotten. The space is so beautifully designed which only enhanced our experience. Overall, you can tell that a lot of love goes into every aspect of this restaurant - from the food, to the experience they deliver to their guests, and the way it was designed and thought out. It wasn’t transactional and we were so well taken care of. If you’re ever looking to splurge on dinner, this is the place to do it.
Reviews / Ratings for Nama Omakase + Sushi Restaurant
We selected the Omakase option. The sushi was elegant, eclectic, and fresh. The Chef explained each preparation with understandable enthusiasm.
What an amazing experience! From the greeting at the door to the last course. Every little detail was well thought out. We opted for the omakase and every course was well curated. We came expecting the fish to be the stand out. But to our surprise, the vegetable dishes blew our minds! You have to try the eggplant katsu and the stracciatella squash! We can’t wait to come back with our friends and try the rest of the menu!
We had the 100$/pp omakase experience. The quality of the food was top-notch, the portions are okay, we were expecting 2 portions of the “main course” dish but only received 1 for 2 people. Other than that it was excellent.
Not qualified to comment on the finer points of sushi but the presentation and quality seemed excellent. Dropped a point because it was both not enough and too much. Perhaps that's just me. The service was friendly, engaging, efficient, superb team work and literally the perfect compliment to the menu. Atmosphere? well the space is perfect, dropped a point for a very strange turn in the background music which provided a too loud soundtrack to the latter part of the experience. But perhaps I'm the wrong demographic which was almost 100% latter day yuppies, not that the staff treated this middle boomer any differently.
I had one of the best dining experiences at Nama! Gacong and his team are incredibly talented and creative with their dishes. I’ve experienced Gacong’s omakase before, and it somehow gets better every single time. The attention to detail is unmatched, and each bite truly feels like an experience in itself. I couldn’t stop saying “mmm” after every course. I already can’t wait to go back! 😋✨
We've been here a few times, most recently to try their omakase. We loved it! Fish tasted super fresh, their rice is really good. Will definitely go back again.
GaCong is the man. Hands down best omakase experience in town
We tried the chef course which costs $200 per person before tax and tips. The amount was not enough.
Absolutely incredible time. Did the Omakase experience on January 10th and fell in love with food all over again. Everyone from the chef to the staff was incredible. Would absolutely recommend this place to anyone! Thanks again to all the staff and the chef for an unforgettable experience!
Wonderful omakase experience. Fusion omakase with complex flavors and variety of fish, wagyu, duck…chef takes great pride in his dishes. Very tasty rice! Excellent attentive service and great cocktails! We will be back for sure.
Very good service and atmosphere but the food was a little bit disappointing.
100/10 experience highly recommending!
Dead quiet and middling food for a $700 meal for two. Can't recommend
The dining experience goes way beyond the usual - elevated, creative and seriously delicious. The 60 hour braised Galbi Ribeye? Unreal. Rich, tender a flavour combo thats next level.. The rest of the menu holds up too, delicate tatakis, crispy eggplant katsu - you name it. I've been there for a couple of different occasions and each time felt special in its own way. The ambiance, service and food consistently exceeded expectations. One of a kind -truly a gem..
Drinks easily some of the best cocktails I’ve had in the city in a while A+++ We ordered a few of the mains . My fav was between the beef or miso Cod. Both A+ Also got the 20 piece sashimi and I don’t know where they get their salmon and tuna from but they melted in mouth like butter We got 3 sides and all of them were top notch but beef tartare was my personal favorite. Coming back soon
Nama Omakase was such a great experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious — beautifully prepared, incredibly fresh, and full of flavour. The drinks were just as good: well balanced, tasty, and not overly sweet, which I really appreciated. The service was phenomenal. Everyone was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming, and the pacing of the evening felt perfect. The space itself is stunning — gorgeous, moody, and intimate, with a really nice atmosphere that makes the whole experience feel special. Overall, everything just came together so well. Easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Montreal, and I’d happily go back.
Good sushi, mediocre cocktails, friendly service. Recommend: Bluefin tuna with guacamole. Wouldn’t order again: Soft shell crab.
A bit disappointed here. We ordered the omakase for 8 pieces. Not to be pompous but we know what the omakase experience is supposed to be like. When our "omakase" came to us, we got 4 types of fish, 2 pieces each.....so not omakase aligned. We then got charged 8 dollars for water...we ordered tap water but they charged us for the bottle of still water. The nigiri tasted similar to suburban sushi, not Japanese really. Our final bill was $230 and was definitely not worth the money.
This place was WAY overpriced. We spent $600 CA for two omakase and two drinks and only 10 out of the 16 dishes actually contained fish of some kind. Truly you could drive to NYC and get a better omakase experience for half the price. Do not spend the time or money to go here - while the sushi chef was nice, my girlfriend and I were very disappointed in the total experience.
