Atmosphere. Nostalgic and classic old style restaurant. Clean, warm atmosphere. Service. Friendly, bilingual, knowledgeable and accommodating. Food. Always consistently good. Stopped by for a basket of fries and a drink with friends. As usual the fries was a large portion, enough for three adults to snack on with a drink. Curly Q fries were crisp and perfectly flavoured, not greasy and you could not smell anything - which is what you want because it means the restaurant is changing their frying oil properly. I have eaten here hundreds of time and loved their all beef, no filler hamburger. This is the only restaurant in Montreal from the beginning, that would form its meat into a weighed ball and then press on it to form the shape of a burger. You could almost say that Mr Steer was the first smash burger joint in the city - only that they don’t squish it so much that it’s a crispy burned dead piece of meat lol. Their burger is done just right, similarly to how What a Burger does. I also loved that they sell Rootbeer and they serve it in a chilled mug. Tasted to good. Bottom line. Will I return - without a doubt!
Reviews / Ratings for Mister Steer
Mr. Steer is a Montreal staple, a must if you’re running errands in downtown or passing by while going to a Canadiens game. We were serve promptly and the food was good and Louisa was amazing. We always come back whenever we can.
Best burger in the world - period.
Quick weeknight dinner for two. Had the Mr. Steerburger (1/4 pound) with coleslaw and a small Coke. Food and service were very good, but $24 (including tax but not tip) is too expensive for what I got. A side of cole slaw was $5.95 and a small coke was $4.95, which is excessive (They charge $9.55 for a mug of draft beer (not a pint, which is $12.55, which is more expensive than almost any bar in town),$4.95 for coffee and $7.55 for a glass of tomato juice, so they are clearly gouging on drink prices). The resto was practically empty too at 7PM! Good food at an iconic and nostalgic Montreal spot, but bang for your buck, it's not worth it!
I’ve been eating here for over 20 years now, and ive never had a bad experience. The service and food are an 11/10
To start, the owner of "67 years" met us at the door. We briefly delved into some history and how Ken Dryden was a regular there every home game, 40X/year. Many of the Habs have eaten there. No doubt, as Mr. Steer has "the best" burgers in all of Montreal!! Dont miss this spot when ib Montreal!!
This was the only disappointing food I’ve have encountered in Montreal yet, I have never left a negative review before and our server was so sweet and kind, I would not recommend the steer burger. I paid $35 and a $5 tip for just a $10 poutine as the burger was the worst burger I’ve ever had, they offered a replacement burger but I lost my appetite after the first one was so terrible.
