Reviews / Ratings for Mémo
We recently visited Mémo after being inspired by glowing food vlogs and the chef's reputation. Having dined at over 100 Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide (from Europe to Asia and North America), we approached this intimate Montreal spot with high but open expectations for the 5-course dégustation menu with wine pairings. The first two courses delivered real excitement creative, well-executed, and full of flavor. We were genuinely anticipating the rest of the meal to build on that strong start. Unfortunately, everything unraveled from the third course onward. The dishes became increasingly lackluster, culminating in a beef course that was completely tasteless and poorly seasoned a shocking low point in what should have been a highlight. There was no digestive offered or even suggested at the end of the meal, not coffee or tea with desert. Which felt like a basic oversight in a tasting-menu format at this price level. Service, while initially attentive, dragged significantly: we waited a full 20 minutes just to settle the bill after the meal concluded, which killed any lingering positive momentum. The $20 cocktails were forgettable at best mediocre mixes that didn't justify the price. For those who haven't experienced many top-tier restaurants, Mémo might feel impressive due to the intimate setting and chef interaction. But for seasoned fine-dining enthusiasts, this was one of the most average and inconsistent experiences we've had in recent years. The early promise simply wasn't sustained, and at dégustation pricing, consistency across all courses is non-negotiable. We won't be returning and can't recommend it to anyone familiar with true high-end cuisine. Sad to note great potential is there, but execution fell far short.
When traveling and you are wanting an excellent meal, consult the Michelin guide! This is how I was able to find Mémo (short for "making dishes from their Mémoires!") - and the January tasting menu did not disappoint. From the amuse-bouche, to the fish course, to the dessert, all seven (7) courses were amazing. The best part? The very personable attention to service & detail from the crew. I had a lot of amazing interactions with the maître d and one of the chefs. The maître d also had asked me about what drink I was wanting to have and I had suggested a cocktail and she asked if I wanted sweet or savory and I said savory. What she came back with was a "Greek Salad Martini." And it tasted exactly like a Greek salad but with no onion aftertaste and it worked perfectly well with the January tasting menu. Please make your reservation or just walk in and enjoy the incredible gastronomy of Mémo!!!
Very cozy quiet little restaurant in old port. Had a tasting menu and it was 50/50 delicious and so so. (Hence the 4stars) service was a little slow but not unreasonable. I enjoyed myself and would recommend this place to a friend.
