(USED TO BE) my favourite place for french pastries in montreal! the chocolatine is my go-to, though I’ve had the apricot tart and the berry clafoutis before and they were delicious too. I love how friendly the staff are and I love playing their piano in the seating area on the second floor :) Edit: SAD SAD place after the renovations. It has been turned into a soulless capitalist husk of its former self. Shame on you, founders of Mamie Clafoutis Joseph Sabatier and Nicolas Delourmel + the tech company Leav, for selling the bakery’s charm and humanity in favour of profit and efficiency. You’ve lost a loyal customer.
What guests say about Mamie Clafoutis Saint-Denis - BASIQ
Reviews often highlight highly appreciated pastries and bakery items, with multiple mentions of croissants, bread, pastries, and the products seeming fresh. Service is sometimes described as warm and efficient, but several customers find the experience less personal than before and criticize the new setup, self-service, and tip handling. Value for money and the atmosphere are also divisive: some find the place pleasant and convenient for buying bread or brunch, while others consider the prices high and the space not very inviting for a long stay.

I visited Mamie Clafoutis last Saturday and everything we tried was delicious! We bought some amazing sugar-covered pastries and the meringues were absolutely incredible — light, sweet, and honestly some of the best I’ve had. The bakery smells amazing when you walk in, and you can tell everything is fresh. I would say it feels more like a bakery than a café — even though they do sell coffee and have a couple of small tables inside, the space doesn’t really invite you to stay there for long. We were a group of 5, and there wasn’t enough room for us to sit comfortably, so we ended up just taking everything to go. Still, the quality of the pastries made it completely worth it, and I’ll definitely be coming back!
Stopped by this neat place for some coffee because of a strawberries pie sign :) it turned out to be a fresh bakery with coffee, fresh pastries, pies and a few other sweet things. Great staff, very helpful and friendly. Both our cold and hot coffees were good, so we're the pastries. It's not a cafe per se, it has no proper seating, but I'd come back for the bread, it looks really good!
Stopped in for a late Sunday brunch a few days ago after hearing good things from a local, and Clafouti absolutely delivered. The croque-monsieur was textbook perfect, with just the right ratio of béchamel to ham, which is rarer than you'd think even in cities that should know better. The room has this warm, lived-in Parisian bistro feel that a lot of places try to fake but here it just happens naturally. Service was attentive without hovering, and the staff clearly knew the menu well enough to make solid recommendations without the usual hesitation.
Not against self service as a concept. But wow the system they implemented is bunk. Now I understand why the store was targeted during that protest. Not saying it’s deserved, but the experience at this store is now bad. Scanned items not being found?! Brutal.
This is hands down my favorite bakery in the neighborhood! Staff are friendly and helpful, all their baked goods are delicious, i’ve tried so many but my favorite is their pudding bread. Their almond chocolatine are very popular as well. I purchased a strawberry pie from them and it was well loved! really a hit :)
Used to love this place. I work in AI, but it's just weird to see AI generated images as the main picture of a bakery's website, and a store with almost no humans. Les Co'pains d'abord is just down the street.
’m writing because I left your café today feeling genuinely disappointed and disrespected. I came in as a paying customer, bought food, and the moment I finished eating, a staff member told me I had to leave because I was taking up space for other customers. I shouldn’t have to explain why that’s wrong. This is a sit-down coffee shop — people come here to spend time, not to be rushed out the door the second their plate is cleared. What made it worse was that it was clear this treatment was based on my age. I was treated as an inconvenience rather than a customer who had just given you my business.
$9.50 without tax for half a sandwich. No thank you…
Delicious baked goods, nice selection of frozen to bake at home.
