I dine regularly in Montreal and almost never left a review but felt compeled to this time. To put it simply, save yourself the time and money. The brunch menu lacks variety and is simply not worth the price they charge for what is considered a very standard breakfast plate(s). Additionally, the the pastries they served we small and burnt (specifically the almond croissant). It was not the only burnt food at the table, the waffle I had was quite dry and lacked flavor, and the bacon I received seemed to have been forgotten on the fire as it was black in my plate. Additionally, the service was lacking. Coffee took over 20 min to come to the table after ordering, despite the place not being very busy, and we could not get a server to bring us salt and pepper. To the point where one of the members at my table got up and took shakers himself so we could eat our eggs. Based on what I observed I cannot fathom how this restaurant has managed to survive in Montreal when there are so many better alternatives around (such as Jardin Nelson); my only explanation is it lives off of hype and is very "instagram-able". If you care to actually eat and sample diverse food at a reasonable price, please choose a different restaurant.
What guests say about Maggie Oakes
The reviews are mostly very positive for Maggie Oakes, especially for the quality of the food and the attentive service. Several customers highlight the steaks, brunch, desserts, and pleasant atmosphere, often with special mentions for the team and certain servers. That said, a few customers found the service slow or disorganized at times, and some felt the prices were high compared with the experience. If you’re looking for a place for a good meal in a polished setting, it seems like a good choice, but it’s best to be prepared to wait during busy hours.
Reviews / Ratings for Maggie Oakes
If you want an Irish coffee rimmed with salt instead of sugar this is the place for you. This hotel is impeccable, the restaurant is not.
I usually judge a restaurant by three things: quality, quantity, and cost. Unfortunately, Maggie Oakes missed the mark on all three for us. Of course, ambiance matters, and the setting is nice. But ultimately, when you go to a restaurant at this price point, you are looking for a good meal. We ordered the Lobster Thermidor for $64 and the filet mignon for $68. Both were disappointing. The lobster was dry, the filet mignon was underwhelming, and the portions felt surprisingly small for the price. The Lobster Thermidor was especially disappointing. The plate came with a half lobster, a few green beans, and some whole potatoes. For $64, it felt sparse and almost careless. The presentation made the meal feel even more disappointing rather than elevated. The only item that felt like decent value was the burger. Compared to the rest of the meal, it was the one dish where the price, portion, and quality felt more reasonable. At this price point, I expected something more generous, refined, and memorable. Instead, most of the meal felt expensive, dry, and ordinary. Overall, this was a disappointing experience, and I would not recommend Maggie Oakes based on this visit. This was my first time and will be my last.

Nice food, great service, and a beautiful atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. Definitely worth a visit when you’re in Montreal!
This was an excellent restaurant. The food was delicious. We went there for me sisters milestone birthday and it was perfect.
Nice food and quick service. Medium steak was under done in the middle. Thermometer required.
Steak quality is excellent and serivc from Zhan is good
amazing Restaurant. Good food. What stands out the most is the service. The person that made our night even better was the service by Louis J. He made sure the night was memorable. Great job 👍
Cephas is the best server ever!!! Most amazing service
Outstanding food
Went there for a corporate event and loved the vibe and energy. I'd recommend planning ahead, as it gets busy quickly. I can't really comment on pricing since the bill was covered, but it seemed comparable to most restaurants in Old Québec. Overall, it was a great experience.
One of my favourite spots in Montreal! Celebrated my anniversary here, our server, Pascal was so kind and attentive. He went above and beyond to ensure our evening was so special. We went back again over the same weekend and he was working again, greeted us with the same warmth as the first evening. Will come back here certainly, and request Pascal as a server!
Excellent and highly professional service from Pascal. He was attentive, fun, and really did all he could to make us truly enjoy our meal. He's a wonderful young man. Well done!
Pascal our server was top class. Best server I have had in a long time. Super professional and friendly. Made great recommendations and would highly recommend asking for his section. Food was great. Had an awesome time!
Absolutely the best!
Went here for dinner with family. What was good: Incredible service with kind, attentive, staff. You can tell they’re used to accommodating larger parties & know how to serve them well! Appetizers were good - really enjoyed the crab cakes & the Caesar salad! What could be better: I understand a steakhouse isn’t the best place for a vegetarian option however times are changing and it would be nice to be accommodated regardless. At the time this review is being posted, they had an Oat risotto which honestly should not have been on the menu, far less for $30+. It tasted like oatmeal with green herb oil & peas. The server was kind enough to take it off the bill because the dish was beyond sub par. I checked older reviews and it seems like they’ve had rotating pasta dishes which might be a better move for future iterations of the menu. Again, service and everything else was great - but oatmeal risotto just isn’t it.
I don’t know the chef, but this is absolutely a disgusting job to do for a piece of lamb, not only it looks gross, but also the worst most terrible taste. Thanks tho
It took over an hour for the food to arrive. They did not acknowledge anything about this unacceptable level of service. This made the experience very unpleasant for us during our trip. We will not visit again.
Terrible service. Took 1.5 hours to serve. Food was just ok. Would not ever visit again.
A wonderful dining experience with exceptional food and very attentive service
Pascal was very attentive in his service of us. As a filipino certain food may be new, he assisted us all the way to an enjoyable meal.
