The resterant smells funny, the food is terrible, very small portion, taste barely acceptable and the price is not cheap. Avoid this restaurant.
What guests say about Machiya Ramen Chinatown
The reviews mainly highlight flavorful ramen with a rich broth, well-cooked noodles, and often generous portions. The service is frequently described as fast, friendly, and efficient, and several people find the place clean, quiet, and welcoming. However, a few customers report cleanliness issues, unpleasant odors, missed orders, and occasional uneven quality. As for pricing, several feel the value for money is good and that it’s a convenient option for a quick meal in Montreal.

personality so bad, they ignore u and doing they work so bad
Best vegetarian ramen I have had in a while!
Family-owned styled ramen restaurant. I can understand why they have good reviews. The ramen was delicious! Not too salty, just right; Great portion too. Also tried their chicken katsu from the appetizer section. Love it as well. The restaurant ambience is simple, does the job; the whole style is very family-owned. What they lack in the atmosphere, they totally made it up with the quality of the food! It is one of those ramen places I would totally go back! Keep up the good work!
One of the best ramen in town And the price is awesome !

The ramen was absolutely delicious! It’s perfect for a quick and satisfying workday lunch. I’m so glad I found this place, and it’s definitely going to become my go-to spot for lunch every day. Highly recommend!
Very good Japanese Ramen in Chinatown. Will be back
For sure we'll come again
Machiya Ramen is easily one of the best ramen spots in Montreal, especially if you’re looking for authentic Japanese ramen in Chinatown. I’ve tried a lot of ramen places around the city, and this place really stands out for the quality of the broth, generous portions, presentation, atmosphere, and very reasonable prices. The first thing I noticed is that they clearly take the ramen seriously. The broth is rich, deep, and full of flavour, and the restaurant highlights that their broth is prepared fresh daily and simmered for hours. You can really taste the difference. If you like a creamy, full-bodied broth, the Tonkotsu Ramen is definitely worth trying. The pork is tender, the eggs are cooked beautifully, the noodles work very well with the broth, and all the toppings come together without overpowering each other. They also have several different options, including Tonkotsu Ramen, Miso Ramen, Shoyu Ramen, spicy ramen, tomato ramen, donburi, and other Japanese dishes, so this is a good place even if everyone in your group wants something a little different. The presentation is also excellent — the bowls look just as good when they arrive at the table as they do in the photos. One of the biggest reasons I would recommend Machiya Ramen is their weekday daily specials, Monday through Friday. It is becoming difficult to find a good-quality lunch or dinner in downtown Montreal at a reasonable price, and these specials make Machiya a particularly good value. Their weekday promotion currently includes specials such as Donburi au cha-shu on Monday, Tonkotsu Ramen on Tuesday, Miso Ramen on Wednesday, Donburi au poulet on Thursday, and Shoyu Ramen on Friday. Some of the ramen specials are around $13.99–$14.99, which is excellent value considering the portion size and quality. If you work, study, live, or regularly visit Montreal Chinatown, it is definitely worth remembering these daily specials. The restaurant itself is also very pleasant. The interior has a clean, modern Japanese feel with warm wood, comfortable green seating and nice lighting. It feels casual enough for a quick bowl of ramen but comfortable enough to sit down and enjoy a proper meal. I also like the Japanese decorations and lucky cats around the restaurant — they give the place personality without making it feel overly decorated. Location is another big advantage. Machiya Ramen is on Clark Street in Montreal’s Chinatown, so it is very convenient if you are downtown, near Place-d’Armes, Old Montreal, the Quartier des spectacles, or just walking through Chinatown and looking for something warm and filling. What I particularly appreciate is that the restaurant doesn't seem to rely only on presentation. The food itself delivers. A beautiful ramen bowl is nice, but the broth, noodles, meat and toppings still have to work together, and here they do. For anyone searching Google for best ramen in Montreal, ramen in Chinatown Montreal, authentic Japanese ramen Montreal, Tonkotsu ramen Montreal, Miso ramen Montreal, Shoyu ramen Montreal, or affordable ramen downtown Montreal, Machiya Ramen deserves to be on the list. Between the fresh, flavourful ramen, generous bowls, weekday specials, attractive restaurant and convenient Chinatown location, this is a place I would happily come back to regularly. Definitely one of my favourite ramen discoveries in Montreal and one of the better-value ramen restaurants in the city. Highly recommended — and check their daily special before you order because there is a different deal every weekday. 🍜🇯🇵
