Reviews / Ratings for Les Street Monkeys
We recently tried Les Street Monkeys and was impressed by the authenticity of the Cambodian cuisine. The flavors felt true to tradition, with well-balanced spices and ingredients that gave each dish a genuine, homemade taste. It’s clear that care has been taken to stay faithful to Cambodian culinary roots, which is something not always easy to find. The menu offers a good representation of classic dishes, and the overall quality of the food is solid. Each plate delivers bold, distinct flavors that make the experience enjoyable, especially for those looking to explore something beyond more common Asian cuisines. However, the main downside is the portion size relative to the price. While the food is undeniably authentic and well-prepared, the portions feel a bit small for what you pay. This can make the overall value less appealing, particularly if you come in expecting a more filling meal. That said, if authenticity is your priority and you’re curious about Cambodian flavors, Les Street Monkeys is still worth a visit. Just be mindful of the pricing and portion sizes when ordering.
Taste wise it's good but need to be mindful of the portions, it's quite small. If your order the skewers it's only two skewers per order.
Streetmonkeys is such a hidden gem. The food is incredible—fresh, flavorful, and you can really taste the authenticity in every dish. The mix of Thai and Cambodian flavors is unique and sooooo well executed. Every bite felt thoughtfully prepared and perfectly balanced. The chef Tota is an artist behind the counter- try to get bar seats by the kitchen - its so much fun to watch them prep all the delicious meals that come out platted! The atmosphere is fun. The staff is super friendly and attentive without being overbearing, which makes the whole experience even better. Ask for “mom’s spring rolls”!
The food was great and unique. Im glad i went. I would say it's probably a good date night joint where you're not trying to fill yourself up to the point where you get the itis. The only negative would be that it's a bit pricey... let's just say it's also not the type of place I would go to everynight or week even. A bday celebration here would be nice if you get where im coming from.
Cerviche was strong wasabi but delicious. Messiah was delicious. Squid also great with side of rice. Fried tamarind fish was ok. We should've gone with the cod. Overall great experience.
Cambodian cuisine is rare in Montreal, but Street Monkeys pays great homage to it. We started with the wasabi ceviche, which was so delicious we were practically drinking the dressing by the end. The stir-fried squid was tender and flavourful, and the fried cod curry was saucy yet somehow remained perfectly crispy. The bone marrow was also absolutely decadent. This was my first time trying Cambodian food, and Street Monkeys set the bar high.
Cool place. Casual relaxed atmosphere. Excellent service. Excellent cuisine.
I really wanted to love this spot, but unfortunately I had such a mediocre experience. First, the folks here were very pleasant, and I acknowledge we did show up to eat relatively late. However, our food came out in the most erratic and illogical way. We first received our ceviche. It was very flagrant, which was fine because we like spicy and had read the caution note on the menu, but I would believe the note. Then, the rice, skewers, and Chinese broccoli came out. This would have been fine, but my partner is pescatarian, and the subsequent dish did not come out for another thirty minutes. I will note, I did enjoy it. As a result, the broccoli got cold. It also lacked flavor. Another thirty minutes after, the final dish came out. At this point, we didn’t even want it. Herein is the next major issue. We sat at the kitchen counter, and had complete perspective of the kitchen. We watched as the kitchen scraped what little bit of curry sauce was left in the container to make our last dish. It confuses me that a restaurant would have an open kitchen and not be mindful of their behavior while customers are observing. This is where it gets better. I watched as staff salted and floured raw fish and then touched bread and garnished dishes. There was one instance where the waiter fully dapped up (shook hand) of a customer and proceeded to sprinkle some cilantro with that same hand on someone’s dish. I can respect the communal and chill vibe they’re going for, but the staff ordering pizza and taking shots while customers wait for food, is just bad business. To top it off, the meal was $100. I didn’t say anything because frankly I didn’t think they’d be receptive based on the above. All in all, I would struggle to recommend.
Les Street Monkeys is a trendy little restaurant with chic decor and tapas-style Cambodian dishes. If you're vegan, your options are limited, but you can still eat well. In the past they had grilled corn on the cob. Recently they had sauteed chinese broccoli, a mushroom and cabbage salad, tofu with noodles, and pumpkin and tapioca coconut milk pudding. You have 2 hours on the dot until you have to make way for the next reservation.
Super over rated. The food is not good and not balanced. There's nothing nice about this place except for the vibe which is a bit more hype.
Service is always amazing- super attentive and knowledgeable. Really kind and patient. Food is always delicious
Amazing food and service
Food was incredible as always. Was my 8th visit in 6 years! My companion enjoyed everything as well!. Music was a little too loud, hard to hear my friend talking to me! Staff was incredible and attentive as always. Always a joy to come back!
We loved going to Street Monkeys with my friend, we shared a few dishes and everyhting was delicious. Cocktails were amazing too. An incredible experience overall.
Good experience in this restaurant
A place to visit multiple times for sure! Loved the beef skewers. The papaya salad had a nice crunch. The wasabi ceviche was definitely an experience, one you should at least try once! Will be back to try more of the items!
Great service and amazing flavors...highly recommend !
Tasty food, great service. Very good cocktails. Nice place to visit.
Taste exactly like authentic Khmer food, nice experience for those who love trying something different.
Amazing. Simply amazing. True, authentic Cambodian flavors. I have been to Cambodia many times and couldn't find anything similar in montreal... well, until this time. They even import spices from there. Every dish is like a poem. Amok is a must try!
Hands down one of the best spots in town. The staff is cool and friendly, the ambiance is fun and cozy. But the food; now thats the star. Everything is fresh, hot out the kitchen and nothing disappoints on the menu.
Really great food, kind staff and overall fun experience would recommend!
We had a great time here the other night. The ambiance is quaint, the staff is friendly and the food was delicious! A particular mention to the squid which was so buttery and grilled to perfection. I’ll definitely be back ☺️
A Fantastic evening was had at Les Street Monkeys! Bar seating is brilliant 🤩
