Lemeac never fails to impress. There is a reason it remains such a Montreal institution. Three of us went for a late Saturday lunch. I had the mussels and frites, and my friends had the hen and the poached eggs with sausage. All very tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommend.
What guests say about Leméac
Leméac is seen as a classic, well-established French brasserie, with a chic but often welcoming atmosphere. The food is very often described as excellent, with recurring favorites including the French toast, moules-frites, desserts, and the wine selection. Service is generally considered attentive and professional, though a few reviews mention delays, noise, or inconsistent greetings. It’s a solid choice for brunch, a dinner with friends, or a special night out, even if the prices are sometimes found a bit high.
Reviews / Ratings for Leméac
Lemeac is one of those places that makes you wish you had a bigger stomach. We came on a Sunday, recommended for brunch — but after looking over the lunch menu, we made the switch. No regrets. We started with the escargot and a half portion of the mushroom ravioli. The escargot isn’t served traditionally, and honestly that works in its favour. Mushrooms, pasta, and tomatoes in a basil foam — deeply flavourful and completely out of this world. The mushroom ravioli arrived in a rich demi-glace with pine nuts. Bold, indulgent, the kind of starter that already makes the meal. For mains, the confit duck leg was cooked to perfection. Served with potatoes and salad — but it’s that skin that stays with you. Cracked perfectly. The kind of detail that separates a good kitchen from a great one. The mussels and fries were equally exceptional. A generous bowl with white wine, tomatoes, dill, and parsley. The mussels were tender — not the least bit rubbery, which is rarer than it should be. The fries held their own alongside them. We didn’t make it to dessert. We couldn’t finish our mains. That’s not a complaint — that’s a reason to come back. And we will. Dinner next time. A must-try in Montréal. Good local spot for traditional french dishes. A little expensive for what you get but still a nice place if you live close by and want a relaxed vibe, nothing pretentious.
Came here for the French toast, left with lovely memories and a great experience!
Good food, Great service and very busy place. Need to book in advance.
Incredible restaurant with excellent service and delicious food. Overall, a wonderful experience!
The food is excellent
Outstanding brasserie! Classic slightly elevated perfect cuisine. Take your time and don't rush the experience. We really enjoyed Leméac.
Visiting from the US - came across this restaurant and made a reservation for brunch. Great food and service. Staff at the bar were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Thank you!
Amazing food, and even better service by one of the friendliest servers Ive ever met, Jonathon. We were truly blown away by how friendly, and how great his service is.
What can I say ? Best restaurant in town.
Lovely experience! Food and desserts were excellent, service was great, comfortable and soft atmosphere, it’s definitely expensive but such a nice treat!
We always have a memorable meal at Lemeac. Whether it is brunch, or dinner, the service is excellent, the food prepared as you ask for it. I will come back every time I come to Montreal.
Montreal’s dining scene is so competitive that great food alone no longer cuts it, and Lemeac is a perfect example of where that equation breaks down. The food? Genuinely excellent. Michelin-worthy, no argument there. But the service? It felt like a glorified casse-croûte. It started at the door, where the hostess couldn’t acknowledge us for a full two minutes eyes glued to a screen. We were then seated and left completely unattended for over 15 minutes. When we finally flagged someone down to ask if we had a server, she arrived and opened with “Prêt à commander?” — no greeting, no introduction, no offer of drinks or a mention of specials. Just: ready to order? When I expressed surprise and asked about beverages and specials, she flipped open the menu to the daily pâté insert and said flatly, “Just what’s there.” No warmth. No hospitality. Nothing. Looking around the room, I noticed a very specific — and aging — demographic. And honestly, it made sense. A younger crowd won’t tolerate this. In a city with this much culinary talent and this many options, good food paired with indifferent service is a business model with an expiry date. A Michelin star deserves Michelin-level hospitality. Until then, this one’s a hard sell.
Busy but exquisite
Never disappoints from the quality, flavors and ambiance, for me it’s always a win to go there. It transports you to Paris. Perfect spot for a brunch with the family or the girls. Fresh and light. Worth the stop!
Good vibes, stellar service
I really liked it from the time I set foot in! I got my perfect table and service was prompt and professional. I was taking myself out for lunch. Was going to go across the street when I spotted THE table I wanted on the patio. Nice to see it is a Michelin recommended so I was prepared for the worst as far as money goes. I went with "la carte du jour" and had a sudden rage for moules frites à la Leméac! Simon my waiter was attractive, oups I meant attentive, offered me a choice of water and asked if I wanted some bread. Let's talk about it, it was very well cooked and fresh, but was at room temperature, in my opinion it should of come at least a bit warm...Then the rest followed, a girl arrived with a ton of Moules, tasty, big and the portion was almost too big but I hate everything, I did not hear a word of what she told me as the room was full and loud. I washed it down with a second glass of wine. Fries where perfection so as the home made mayonnaise. The wine selection was overwhelming. Pages and pages of for all taste and purses. The immense wine by the glass selection is impressive as well. So I had a nice chilled Sauvignon Blanc DesCombes plus a second one! It is a definitely a goer. At 64$ for a large Moule Frites and 2 glasses of Sauvignon, it's a steal. À bientôt!
One of the best restaurants in Montreal , food is beyond delicious and service is exceptional. The atmosphere and patio are amazing.

the food is really good and the price is ok , the place is cosy and the waitress was nice to us , would recommend it
I went there with friends for a birthday dinner and the food was great. The waiter gave us great recommendations. L’escargot there is unique as it is made with mushrooms and basil sauce for main I would recommend the tartare or boudin noire. The pain perdu was amazing
It's a solid brasserie that live up to it's reputation. I think it's a bit on the expensive side but the menu is solid and the staff was friendly. It was a bit noisier than I expected but it could have been just the specific groups of people around us. We happen to be next to what I would call a loud "gros colon" who would have been happier at St-Hubert. Those things you can't control but the tight setup of some tables make it a roll of the dice I guess. We went as a couple but it would be fun for a double date or a small group. The appetizer are a bit more expensive than I'm used to but they are also decent size, so it even out. We are not big eater, so we felt like we could have got away we two appetizer each, or just a shared appetizer and a main dish each. Ended up at around 300$ for two appetizer, two main, a shared dessert and a bottle of wine.
Nice and causy 😇
Really beautiful and cossy feel, staff are very welcoming and attentive. Great food
