What guests say about Le Petit Dep|Café-Épicerie Fine|St-Sulpice

Le Petit Dep is often appreciated for its warm atmosphere, cute decor, and cozy little stopover feel, with coffee, hot chocolate, and several drinks generally well liked. Many customers also highlight good service, even though the place is small, sometimes very busy, and better suited for a quick break than for staying a long time. A few reviews do note irritants such as inconsistent service, products sometimes being unavailable, and value for money that is not always convincing.

A very cute little cafe in Old Montreal. You can pick a sandwich out of the fridge and they can heat it for you. They are not made to order. If they are out of what you want, you are out of luck. On the day we went, the man at the register would speak English to customers (who didn’t know French), but then when their orders were ready he called them out in French. I could see the customers confusion, but he didn’t notice. They had to get his attention and ask if it was theirs. To be fair, he was busy and I’m sure he didn’t mean anything by it. It’s likely just habit to speak French. I just don’t think it classifies as 5 star customer service. Personally, the service and the food quality make this a 3 star experience. It was fine as a quick stop when passing by, but I wouldn’t seek it out.

Hate to leave bad reviews but this wasn’t great. Ordered a hot chocolate and an English breakfast tea to go. The tea was earl grey and in mug.

Hi Francine, it looks like you may have been given the wrong tea. We would have been happy to replace it right away with the correct one and put it into a takeaway cup for you. Apologies for the misunderstanding.

I went to the St-Sulpice branch a few days ago, food was ok but a staff member shouted at me after I asked a simple question. I also visited the Plateau branch a few months ago and found the service disappointing; in both cases I felt unwelcome.

Great service and such a cute place to stop by. Please note they don’t allow laptops I’m assuming so you don’t hog the seating the entire day which is kinda nice since it is a busy area. Coffee and lattes are so good here just wish they had better sandwich options.

The coffee is ok, very sour for my taste, the hot chocolate wasn’t hot or even taste like chocolate more like milk and very pricey for 8$ no chocolate taste. Nice decoration but not much space at the old port location. Pastries are ok.

Hi Rimi, We would have been happy to remake your drinks on the spot. We work with two different coffee roasts, and we’re always glad to adjust or offer an alternative when needed. Our pricing reflects the quality of ingredients we use, with a focus on sourcing from local producers. If you’re looking for a more spacious setting, our sister location, Alfred Café & Buvette in Griffintown, offers a larger dining area with a full kitchen and evening menu. Le Petit Dep

It is very pretty inside with cute merch. The food and drinks are ok. I would not return as it is extremely busy with tourists, just for unimpressive food.

Hi, We’re glad you enjoyed the space and selection of merchandise. Our locations in Old Montreal are very popular with both locals and visitors, especially during peak periods. While the atmosphere may feel busy at times, it’s also part of what makes the area vibrant. As for the food and drinks, we focus on using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients, and our ready to eat menu reflects that approach. If anything you ordered didn’t meet expectations, our team would have been happy to replace it on the spot. For a more complete food and drink experience, our sister concept, Alfred Café Buvette, features a full kitchen along with a curated selection of wine and cocktails in a warm, relaxed atmosphere. We understand this experience may not suit everyone and wish you all the best.

Amazing coffee! The crispy rice milk chocolate is yum yum. Paid CAD32 for the items plus a canned kombucha not sure how much the items are individually there’s no individual price tag for them.

I wasn’t able to try any food or drinks, unfortunately. After waiting about 10 minutes to get a seat and another 10 minutes to decide and stand in line, I selected three different items from the menu, only to be told that none of them were available. It would really help if the menu reflected what’s actually in stock, or if staff informed customers earlier.

Hi Mehrdad, Thank you for coming by, and we’re sorry you caught us at a particularly busy moment. At this location, our menu is based on ready-to-go items prepared in advance, so availability can change throughout the day depending on what has sold. Unfortunately, we’re not able to update the hanging menu in real time, but we understand how this can be frustrating. If you’re looking for a made-to-order experience, our Griffintown location has a full kitchen where items are prepared throughout the day. We hope to have the chance to welcome you again for a better experience. Le Petit Dep Team

This coffee shop is really good — great quality coffee and super friendly staff. Drinks come out fast too. Only thing is there’s almost no space inside, so it’s more of a grab-and-go spot than a place to sit and relax. Still worth it for the coffee. ☕
