My date and I visited for the Valentine’s Day five-course tasting menu, and unfortunately, the evening fell well below expectations. While each dish was visually refined and thoughtfully plated, the execution and flavor composition were inconsistent and, at times, misguided. French cuisine is rooted in balance, clarity, and intention—each element on the plate should serve a defined purpose. Instead, several courses felt unfocused, with competing flavors that overwhelmed rather than complemented one another. The risotto was notably undercooked and lacked proper emulsification, resulting in a thin, watery texture rather than the expected creamy cohesion. The duck breast, which should have been rendered crisp on the skin and served at a precise medium-rare, arrived undercooked and texturally unrefined. The final course—traditionally an opportunity to reset and conclude the meal with elegance—was similarly disappointing. Rather than offering a clean, harmonious finish, the dessert presented an excess of competing flavors that muddled the palate instead of refreshing it. For a prix-fixe Valentine’s menu, one expects precision, balance, and memorability; regrettably, this experience delivered none of the above.
Reviews / Ratings for Le Boulevardier Restaurant
With Valentine’s Day approaching it was nearly impossible to find a reservation nearby. By chance Le Boulevardier had one table left so we booked it. The reviews and menu looked great and we were excited. A few days before, we learned it would be a prix fixe menu which initially disappointed us, especially me, since I’ve never been a big fan of set menus. Still we kept the reservation. We’re so glad we did! The atmosphere was fantastic, the music and service were excellent, and the food was absolutely delicious. It completely changed my perspective on prix fixe menus. Ending the night with an “à volonté” digestive was the perfect touch. An amazing Valentine’s Day, we’ll definitely be back!
Benjamin was amazing. The service was exceptional and food was great. We would go back.
Great service, food was spectacular.
Best dining experience I’ve had in Montreal hands down! Each plate we had just kept getting better and better. I recommend getting a bunch of different plates so that you can share at the table. The waiters and rest of the staff are so warm and really make you feel like you can enjoy your meal. No one rushes you out. Hospitality at its finest! Definitely coming back!
Really lovely French restaurant! Showcases classic French dishes prepared with careful attention to flavor and technique. From the appetizers to the mains and desserts, everything is well-executed. The sauces are rich, the proteins are cooked perfectly, and the ingredients taste fresh. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, and the staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. Great place for a date night or a special dinner with friends. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality and ambiance make it worthwhile.
Very expensive for a not so memorable meal. I had the tasting menu, which was quite disappointing. The amusebouche of fish and strawberries tasted only of strawberries. The scallops were good, but not spectacular. The pre dessert was nice, but the dessert was nothing to write home about. I actually don't even remember what it was. The sommelier was very interesting, but the wine, although good, was way overpriced. The evening cost close to $600 for 2 people, which is unreasonable. That being said, my husband enjoyed his steak.
Excellent food. We had the scallops, striped bass, octopus and lamb all perfectly cooked. Desert was the best - millefueille to die for. Great service. One note of complaint - the music in the restaurant was very annoying - hodgepodge of music - 50’s hits one minute then r&b the next and different genres after that. Music should set the vibe of the restaurant. This playlist contributed nothing to the vibe except being annoying. How about some soft jazz, lounge music or easy listening to set the tone of such good food.
It took well over an hour to be seated beyond our reservation time. The staff were apologetic, but the overall experience was significantly ruined by the extreme delay. The food was objectively good with one or two dishes being a little strange, but it was better than average. The cocktails were mixed, the bartender downstairs was clearly more experienced, I sent the drink from the restaurant back and had them send one from the bar downstairs. The subsequent rush of our tasting menu also ruined the experience, we had a previous appointment that was now forcing a fast dinner thanks to the late seating. What could have been a nice experience was ultimately ruined by a lack of management, staff that "tried" but clearly didn't have the ability or authority to make any real consolations for the situation. I wouldn't go here again, there are dozens of better options in Montreal.
