Ash was our server and our host. He was so amazing that he is the main reason why we will return. Food was original, very tasty, served hot. The filet mignon was absolutely delicious. Pizza Margherita very good dough and nice toppings. Fettuccine Nastaba outstanding and the tartare of beef was one of the best we have had anywhere. Reasonably priced considering that you bring you own wine. We will return often. Thank you Ash.
Reviews / Ratings for L'Académie Laval
We went to L'Académie on January 29, 2026 for a birthday with 10 people, 8 adults and 2 kids. What should have been a joyful celebration turned into a four-hour ordeal where most of us left barely eating anything. Parking was easy, and at first glance, the restaurant looked clean and quiet. We were seated quickly, the menu is expensive, and the waiter was friendly, answering our questions and explaining the specials. Most of us ordered from the menu; I chose the special. The kids ordered spaghetti and chicken. We arrived at 5:30 PM. At 7:30 PM, two hours later was when I finally received my Caesar salad. The lettuce was ok and the dressing fine, but more than half of the leaves had turned rusty red. I had to remove most of it and ended up leaving the majority untouched. The kids got their meals shortly afterward. The rest of us were finally brought our entrees around 8:00 PM. Our table had ragu pasta, black olive pasta, medallions with pasta, and cheese gnocchi. My ragu pasta was so salty it was almost inedible. I even asked others to taste it. The ocean was sweeter. The gnocchi was like a soup, the medallions were tough and salty, and the pasta sauce was acidic. The kids’ chicken was dry she barely ate her favorite meat, and his spaghetti sauce was also acidic, that a little later the waiter offered him a pizza instead. I called the waiter over and asked him to taste it my dish. He said he would get me another plate. The owner came and explained the sauce had been made earlier but “shouldn’t be salty” and also offered a replacement. When the new plate arrived, it was identically salty. I took one bite and left it. Completely inedible. The waiter was polite, but we had waited two hours in a mostly empty restaurant only to get food we couldn’t eat. Almost no one at our table finished their meal, including the kids. Other tables were leaving plates unfinished too. The owner came back again, repeating that the sauce had been made earlier and trying to convince us it was normal. My mother then also pointed out that her black olive pasta had only TWO kalamata olives in the entire dish and mostly mushroom and eggplant. Finally, we had the birthday cake at 9:00 PM. By then, most of us including the kids had barely eaten. A few people resorted to plain pasta and bread just to have something. BTW the cake was good and the coffee the waiter made was also very good. We paid the full bill, more than the cost of a trip to Cuba for all of us and yet, after four hours, we ate almost nothing. The only positive: our waiter was incredibly friendly and patient. What should have been a happy birthday dinner became one of the most disappointing, frustrating, and inedible experiences we’ve ever had. We will never return.
Beef and barley soup is delicious! My wife's Veal plate was stunning as was the Calmare appetizer.
Pasta was undercooked, our waiter ignored us for 45 minutes, took an hour to get our food and the pizza looked like it was store bought and costed three times the price
I understand the restaurant was very busy, especially since it seemed like there were a lot of big groups, however service took a long time. Our reservations were at 7:00 and we left at 11:00.
My wife had the snails with cheese and the cheese was burnt. The lamb shanks had a strong taste and my steak was overcooked I asked for rare and I got medium. We spent 180$ and I was disappointed.
The plates were incredibly overpriced and the food wasn't even good. Do not recommend at all 👎
We made a reservation more than two weeks in advance, expecting a smooth experience. Instead, we were told the restaurant was “too busy,” as if that excused what followed. If you can’t manage reservations booked weeks ahead, that’s a management failure — not the customer’s problem. We arrived early for our 7:30pm reservation and still had to wait while the table was being prepared. Once seated, our large party — split between two tables — was assigned only one server. For a restaurant charging $50–$100 per plate, that is completely unacceptable. We were ready to order shortly after sitting down, yet the server repeatedly tried to delay taking our order, even attempting to walk away twice until we insisted. We finally ordered around 8:00pm. What followed was outrageous: nearly two hours before our food began arriving. During the first hour, we asked multiple times about the status of our food and were repeatedly told it was “almost ready.” At around 1 hour and 15 minutes, we requested a manager, who blamed staffing issues and other reservations, promising the food would arrive in “five minutes.” At 1.5 hours, when I sought her out again, she avoided coming to speak with us. Another employee claimed to be the manager but refused to give his name or title. He denied knowing about the delay, blamed the kitchen, and accepted no accountability. Meanwhile, we watched numerous other tables — seated after us — order, eat, and finish while we were still waiting. At 10:00pm, two hours after ordering, our food finally began arriving, slowly and with items missing. The quality did not justify the price or the wait. Afterward, management admitted our table had essentially been forgotten and proceeded to blame the server and kitchen staff. The service was disorganized, management was dismissive, and there was zero accountability from start to finish. For a restaurant positioning itself as upscale, the experience was beyond disappointing — it was unacceptable. It's great to appear like a fancy restaurant, but if the service and food is absolutely garbage, it is some what pointless.
We booked a reservation a week in advance for Valentine’s Day. After being seated, it took over an hour to be seen by a waiter. After being seated for over 2 hours we still had not received our main meals. People around us that were seated over an hour after we arrived received their food before us. Many tables around us that were seated around the same time as us also experienced similar service. At this time, up to 2.5 hours at this point, these tables including us asked for the bill for our appetizers. There was no food being served in sight.
We had a wonderful dining experience months ago at Académie Laval, so we decided to return today for Valentine’s Day. To start with, not only was the entire staff super friendly, but the restaurant owner himself gave us great attention, warmth, and a true sense of hospitality. The food was nothing short of the finest cuisine we have ever had, and the beautiful ambiance truly enhanced our wonderful experience. We highly recommend Académie Laval to anyone who appreciates fine cuisine and a cozy dining atmosphere with an exotic touch.
Very good restaurant, recommend the steak!
Very bad choice I made tonight to eat at this restaurant. We had to wait 2 hours to get our foods..speak to the owner houssam. Telling him about my refrustration. He said nothing he can do..the foods not really good..I order chicken Parmigiano..the sauce too dry. Chicken over fried. And the vegetables very cold..service very bad..and the washroom is disgusting..no recommendations,.the manager has no experience whatsoever in this business how to manage a restaurant. I told him I am being waiting for my order 2 hours he said I have 360 people in the restaurant what do u want me to do...(if u can't manage this kind of business shouldn't be in the right place)
Spacious restaurant! Perfect family dining place. Calamari is so crispy & delicious. We had lobster and steak- excellent! We will definitely be back soon!
Really good food and service
I really enjoyed the food, great taste, thank you so much for the incredible service.
Grate place and good food for family reunion
Friendly atmosphere bring your own alcohol nice clean and fun
We waited more than an hour to receive our food. We had to ask for bread as they didn’t bring it until more than 45 minutes after we ordered our meal. They brought my husband the wrong order. He had to wait for them to make it again. I had the veal scallopini limone piccata and my hubby had veal scallopini a la Marsala. Each dish came with a side of pasta. We had the caramel carrot cheesecake slice for dessert(11$).
Terrible, food is super tasteless, it’s super overpriced, and the manager is very rude.
The best restaurant in Laval yummy food
Insanely overpriced.
Having only the “table d’hôte” as the only main course choice wasn’t a good choice . It limited the meal plans (even though you did have 6 or 7 choices , but you’re limited with just those ). And whether you eat the soup or take coffee , you still lay the same amount of you eat it or not .
At first, they were offering us a table on the edge of the kitchen entrance and only let us change when we insisted. Then when ready to order, the menus were picked up and replaced with identical menus that had the same items but the dish we wanted was $30 more expensive. Aside from that, the service was excellent.
We are a family of 4 & we always have great service from our waiter (I will need to take down his name) and I always enjoy my food. I live the fact that there are lots of options in the table d’hote! Never change the quality of your food! Thank you 😊
Thank you for being so understanding with all our special demands !
