Very cosy atmosphere, with great music that really helped elevate the experience. I brought my parents, who were visiting from Brazil, and they loved everything about La Sauvagine/Solmar. The restaurant has both French and Portuguese menus, and each of us ordered something different, from Portuguese Cod to Confit de Canard. They were also very accommodating and able to adapt the dishes to our needs. The excellent service from Maitê definitely made the experience even better. She was very welcoming and attentive, and can serve you in French, English, Spanish, or Portuguese. If you're wondering if you should go in, just do it!

My husband and I were visiting Montreal from Miami, and this was truly one of the highlights of our trip. Everything was amazing from beginning to end — the appetizers, the game meat, the main courses, the drinks, and the desserts. Every single thing we ordered was delicious. Our waitress, Tigo, was wonderful — so friendly, attentive, and welcoming. In fact, everyone who worked there made us feel special and took such great care of us. It was an incredible dining experience and one we will definitely remember. If we come back to Montreal, this will absolutely be a restaurant we visit again. Highly recommend!

The old guy standing outside near patio, welcoming customers is rude racist and full of himself. He tried to rip us off by adding 20% gratuity automatically even for two persons and acted as if he didn’t know and asked for more tip… upon confronting this guy asked us where we were from and said this is normal here…

Food was unbelievable. Steak Frites was fantastic, seafood linguine was impressive aswell. Steak was perfectly cooked (medium rare) and served with crispy, golden fries. Great service, great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Had most delicious dinner . I had rack of lamb with potatoes and carrots with a delicious sauce. Also served with vegetables that were yummy. My husband had the elk, bison, and venison with different sauces that were also delicious. We were sitting at wonderful table where we could see everything and all the people coming and going. The wine was good and the desserts were fabulous. For dessert, we had Lava cake, and apple crumb both served with vanilla ice cream. We spent two fabulous hours, enjoying a bottle of wine and eating a delicious French meal.

Attentive service and good food. No ice for the water and no air conditioning. Centrally located on Rue St. Paul (busy tourist area). Had some nice menu options for classic French cuisine. A little pricey, but paying for the location.

Pricey but good if you want the experience of eating in a European setting. Good place to try game meats. We had the Elk, Caribou, Bison and Venison steaks. We also had scallops with chorizo and squid. Seafood tasted fresh. It was a good experience to try them all. We sat outside, which it gave us "la vie Parisienne" vibe. It was a bit annoying the amount of people that stood right next to us having their conversions (good for people watching and gossip 😆) Good place for drinks and Canadian wine.

Very rude host, the older lady with the black-framed glasses was not welcoming at all. Her attitude made us feel uncomfortable from the moment we arrived, which left a poor first impression.

First time in Montreal, and Anthony made our night so memorable! He was sweet, genuinely cared about our table, and was attentive throughout the entire meal. The food was fresh, delicious, and exceeded our expectations. We had such a great experience and will definitely be back the next time we’re in Montreal. Highly recommend!

Wonderful service and really excellent French cuisine. They serve the menu from their Portuguese sister restaurant Solmar when it’s not open so our group was able to order from a wide variety of options. Location is charming with an upscale rustic feel. We were very well taken care of.

Enjoyed a wonderful meal and experience here. Started with the French onion soup, and had a wild game trio as an entree. The venison, bison, and elk were All cooked medium-well, and to perfection. My wife had the salmon and shrimp. We were lucky, on a warm summer evening, to be able to get a wonderful window seat looking out over the street without the noise of eating outside. Gorgeous view!

We returned to this eatery a few days ago after visiting for the first time in February 2025, when we had a nice meal. Unfortunately, this time was a huge disappointment. The service was inattentive and the food was nothing memorable. The terrace was the best part of our visit.

I dont get any negativity about this place. We were promptly taken inside, and given what I'd argue was the best seat in the house. A window seat, indoors enough to be out of the wind, but outside enough to experience the square. Food was good, wait staff was very patient and explained things in detail. Yes, they will make you buy food to occupy premium space. Thats a reasonable request, they have to make money. Yes, you should tip here, it is a nice restaurant.
