What guests say about Jun I

Jun I receives mixed reviews, with many customers praising the freshness of the fish, the omakase, and the warm service, especially at the bar. Others find the food inconsistent or simply average, with portions sometimes small and prices seen as high. The service is often highly appreciated, but a few customers report long waits and a disappointing experience. It is therefore an interesting option for a special outing, especially if sushi quality and atmosphere matter to you, but there is some risk of inconsistency.

It was the longest dinner of my life. The slowest service I’ve ever seen. It took forever to get a hold of servers and around 15-20 mins between dishes in the omakase. We spent almost 3 hours there. And the food and atmosphere was pretty average. It’s absolutely not worth a $300 bill for a dinner of 2 people.

All in all a great date spot! A little on the pricey side but definitely worth it! We took the Omakase (130$/person) and everything was absolutely delicious. A great mix of flavours, nutty, fruity, etc. It was definitely the right pick for our four year anniversary!

Jun I was a wonderful dining experience and well worth the reservation. I had a 6:30 PM Saturday booking, which turned out to be perfect timing — the restaurant was already quite crowded when I arrived, and the energy felt lively but still intimate. I started with two orders of uni as an appetizer. It was incredibly fresh and buttery, with a clean, rich flavor that really stood out. For my main, I ordered the gindara. The portion was smaller than I expected, but the taste absolutely delivered — deeply savory, perfectly cooked, and very satisfying. The uni was so good that I ended up ordering another round even after my main. For dessert, I had the banane hojicha, which was a great finish to the meal. The server was extremely kind and thoughtful — he added a candle to my dessert and even poured me a complimentary glass of umeshu. Unfortunately I was already very full by then, but it was delicious and a really nice touch. Overall, excellent food, warm service, and a great special-occasion spot. I’d definitely return.

Fish is consistently top 3 in Montreal. Maki/nigiri/sashimi always solid. Ambiance and service have declined post pandemic. No sushi bar anymore significantly hurts the ambiance.

Had my birthday dinner here, for my first ever tasting menu it was pretty good! I liked how the atmosphere picked up to a more energetic one as the night went on. The first dishes in their omakase had my friends and I raving about it afterwards.
