Service was fantastic! Had a chance to exchange with the staff too. Katsu was excellent! Took me back to Japan! Really enjoyed my meal there! Would recommend
What guests say about Hoshi
Hoshi seems to be a small Japanese spot appreciated for its katsu, often described as delicious, crispy, and served with friendly service. Several customers also mention reasonable prices, satisfying portions, and a few vegetarian options, but the restaurant has limited seating and does not take reservations, which can lead to a wait. A few more mixed reviews mention inconsistent quality in some dishes, especially when the meat is dry or overcooked.
Reviews / Ratings for Hoshi
Just ignore the debatable exterior of the restaurant and eat some juicy, tasty, crispy Katsu.
Have gone to Hoshi a few times now, and each time have tried something different, ranging from the Sake Don, Lunch Ten Don, and Katsu Don. Always excellent taste and presentation, particularly the Ten Don with all the nice tempura arrangement. Service is good, however, the only (major) downside of this place is that there are not many seats / tables, and no reservations taken. One time three of us came and waited outside in the cold for 15 minutes or so, having already being reassured by the waitress that it would be soon, but it being winter and all, we finally decided to leave for another restaurant. The food and service are great, and it's definitely worth a visit, but there's no guarantee you'll get a seat when you arrive!
Crispy rosu katsu, warm rice, endless shredded cabbage… and one of those lunches that disappears too fast. Between conversations about American politics, immortality, and the next trip waiting somewhere out there, the pork stayed crispy and the world somehow felt both heavier and lighter at the same time. #Hoshi #Montreal
Good food and service!
Incredible food and service
Overall very disappointing. Not particularly good or bad service. Wait time outside at the door, would think a reservation list or system would be better as there's no covering outside. Hope to see them implement something like that in the future. We both ordered two different types of katsu and both were dry and tough. Completely overcooked. Flavor was a bland, granted you are given seasonings like salt, sauce etc... but katsu itself has no flavor. Both our plates and sauce cup had chips in it. Soup they served seemed to be the instant cream vegetable one from Korean grocery store. Overall, it's not very good. I've had much better katsu at food court. They should switch to donkatsu. Less easy to mess up and you can tenderize the meat.
Actually fresh food. Great hidden gem.
We tried various cuts with the katsu don and it was delicious!
Great restaurant to discover the japanese dish KATSU. My overall experience was very positive. Great food, great services and very motivated staffs. I always recommend this restaurant.
I ordered again by Ubereats. Look at my katsu, so obviously 1 piece missing that the cut line wasn’t matching. That’s ridiculous…
Food was great! Friendly staff and reasonable prices. We ordered the the spicy salmon salad, rosu katsu udon and the curry katsu don The katsu was very good and flavourful, some pieces were slightly tough, but for the most part very tasty and tender, and the curry sauce is great. Salad is very refreshing. Would definitely come back!
Nothing vegetarian and rude
2025/10: hoshi tempura udon 27$ before tips, came with a miso soup and cream mushroom soup, filling for 1 person (5/5)
Excellent Katsu at reasonable prices! Came here for dinner on a Sunday evening around 6pm, the restaurant itself is quite small with around 5-6 tables inside. Atmosphere was very quiet but it was comfortable. Ordered the Sake Salmon Son and the Rosu Katsu Curry. The sake Salmon Don came with pre-seasoned salmon sashimi on a bowl of rice, topped with an onsen egg, scoop of avocado and a sheet of toasted Nori. The flavors blended well, salmon wasn't overly salty and was very creamy with the onsen egg yolk. Rice was well seasoned and had great texture, overall very decent dish. The Katsu Curry was excellent, the Katsu had great flavor and was crispy on the outside but the bottom did get a little soggy due to being on the rice and curry ( I didn't mind). The curry itself was not too salty and paired well with the rest of the dish. The Katsu pieces are quite thick so some of the middle bites might seem on the drier side but ultimately pairs very well with the curry. Was also served a small complimentary cup of creamy chicken and mushroom soup which were good, nothing too crazy but the server was nice. Overall excellent place for Katsu, and at decent prices and portions.
Been wanting to try this for quite a long time and it’s the first place that was above the hype. An all star dish, friendly staff, few tables and quiet- it was perfect for a solo meal.
Friendly service and staff. The cream soup and miso soup are too salty. The pork pieces were dry and the rice was undercooked.
Currently closed due to vandalism of their store front. ☹️ Food is amazing and you should come when they reopen! The place is tiny but delicious
I love this spot! One of my favorite restaurants in the city. Delicious Katsu!!
