I can’t say enough great things about Gatto Matto Laval. We were there this past Friday to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and as always, it was an exceptional experience. We come here often, about once every two weeks and there’s a reason we keep coming back. The service is consistently outstanding, with plenty of attentive staff who make you feel truly taken care of. The atmosphere is perfect: lively with great background music or a DJ, yet still comfortable enough to enjoy conversation at your table. Everything was spot on from the food to the overall vibe. It’s one of those rare places that delivers every single time. A big shout out to Shawn for always taking such great care of us—courteous, professional, and genuinely welcoming. And one detail that really makes a difference, especially in Montreal winters: the free underground parking. It makes the whole experience that much more convenient, no matter the weather. Highly recommended. This is definitely one of our go-to spots! Tom & Dayanna
The food was wonderful from starters, drinks to dessert. The atmosphere is fantastic. We were served by Calvin and Justin and they were very courteous and welcoming! ❤️
The waiter was great the bartender is amazing with the cocktails I asked for less of the other veggies for more Brussels sprouts and they made the exception for us. The platter was fresh, the lobster needed a more potent sauce bu there's a sweet creamy sauce that came with the Brussels sprouts so goooooodddd The overall quality 👌🏽
Amazing place if you are looking for delicious food, excellent service and a fun time! Their grilled octopus is a must-try!
The staff were very nice but the portion of pasta here is very small. You also need to pay to slice your cake.
I visited Gatto Matto after a round of virtual golf with a few friends, and overall, it was a very positive experience. From the moment we arrived, the service stood out. The staff was attentive across the board—from the hostess who seated us, to our waiter, to the team members who regularly checked in, refilled water, and kept our wine topped up. One staff member in particular (I unfortunately didn’t catch her name) was especially attentive and made sure everything was running smoothly at our table. They were also patient and accommodating while we waited for friends who were delayed due to traffic and parking issues following the letout of the Laval Rockets hockey game at Place Bell. The only downside on the service side was the two-hour table limit, which, while understandable on a busy Saturday night, did add a bit of pressure to the evening. As for the food, we started with the salmon tartare and grilled octopus—both were well-prepared and flavorful. For mains, my wife had a Pizza Burrata and I had a pasta with guanciale meat, which one of my friends also ordered. The dishes were good, though I found the pasta portion a bit small, especially considering the price. That said, pricing is generally in line with what you’d expect for pasta in Montreal. The wine selection was decent but nothing remarkable. Like most restaurants, prices start around $50 per bottle, and while acceptable, the quality didn’t quite match the cost—I’ve had better at that price point. We also looked into the meat platter, which ranges from roughly $150 to $180 for two to three people. While it includes premium items like lobster tails and shrimp, it still feels expensive compared to similar platters at smokehouse-style restaurants. Overall, the food was good, the service was excellent, and the experience was enjoyable. It’s on the pricier side, but still a place I would return to. Rating: 4/5
The restaurant is super nice, food is delicious, the service was excellent!!!
Excellent food, pizza is succulent ,really good service
Great music and the servers were exceptional.
Lovely place with a delicious foods.
Music is very loud, the pizzas are very oily and they gave me back my birthday cake cut in pieces all smashed up and in small separate boxes, they also did not give back the box of candles I gave them with the cake.
Excellent food and service! The carbonara is out of this world! 😀
Amazing service mainly by Alyssia! She is amazing and super friendly! I would definitely recommend her especially
This place might deserve the best review I’ve ever written. They have the holy trinity; food, service, and atmosphere. Food is delicious, service goes above and beyond, and atmosphere is a cool, eclectic and upbeat. And Kyle, let’s not forget about Kyle. He is the absolute man, great service. Is the place perfect? No such thing. The tuna takiti is underwhelming, but everything else is an 11/10. Highly recommend.
Amazing service and Amazing food !!! The place to be before a Rocket game!
Last night, we went to the restaurant with a reservation of 7 people. We arrive and the hostess is trying to fit 3 men and 4 women in a 6 person booth, that’s right infront of the dj booth, next to the area where servers are constantly passing for utensils and croutons. We asked to sit at the table across, and the hostess goes “no it’s only for 8 people” she then says she can put a chair at the end of the booth or sit us on bar stools when we had a disabled person coming with us. The hostess tried multiple times to say “the booth is for 7 people” meanwhile other staff members that served us water were coming to us asking “are you 6 tonight?” Which clearly means the restaurant was trying to squeeze another person in the booth. I proceeded to point out to her that 3 other guests were sitting in the same style of booth that she wanted to seat us at were shoulder to shoulder and looks uncomfortable. The hostess proceeds to call me rude after she tried to gaslight me into accepting a high traffic table area while squeezing in an extra person at the booth. Thank god we didn’t eat there as I enjoyed a nice dinner else where, where I actually at elbow room to enjoy my meal. This restaurants strong point isn’t food, it’s clearly aesthetic and vibes, so by trying to shove 7 people in a very small booth it automatically ruined the experience.
Its not our first visit, love this place. The food was great , the service was great as well! .
I’ve NEVER been this satisfied with a restaurant in my life. Our waitress was above and beyond honestly such a sweetheart .We started with fried calamari as an appetizer 10/10 it was so good. We were scared at first because of the light color. We were pleasantly surprised. We followed with our waitress suggestion which was a shared platter 10000/10.A must try.The meat was seasoned to perfection the sides were so good.I’m definitely going back.We took litchi martinis even they were amazing.
SUPER👌👌👌
Great service, love the food, slightly expensivee
Great restaurant with great service, small pizza menu but quality is really good and fresh. Great service and very nice place. Woulf recommend to everyone!
I had a very frustrating experience trying to book my bridal shower here. I initially met with a manager to discuss hosting the event. She gave me the menu, and I told her I would be bringing my own cake, so dessert would be removed. She then made up an estimated price on the spot and said she would confirm with the owner. Weeks went by with no response, despite multiple attempts to follow up. When I finally called again, a different manager gave me a completely different price and said she would also need the owner’s approval. Once again, no one ever got back to me. To make things worse, I was told two different prices for cake cutting — one staff member said $8, another said $4. This shows a lack of consistency and professionalism. Overall, this place feels very disorganized, with poor communication and prices that seem to change depending on who you speak to. It made me very uncomfortable trusting them with an important event like a bridal shower. On top of that, portions are extremely small for the price, wine is expensive despite being a lower-end brand, and the staff does not seem experienced in managing private events. I would not recommend this place for hosting events, and I’m glad I decided not to move forward.
A spoonful of pasta for 30$ plus never again
This review is about how to screw up a nice experience for $1.50. The service we received was very good. The food we received was ok. I ordered a pasta with tomato sauce and I asked for bread. I shouldn't have to ask in an Italian restaurant, but I had to. The bread I received was terrible. Let's not forget this is supposed to be a decent italian restaurant. The 2 slices of bread were like melba toast. Hard with no substance. The kicker is that we spent almost $250 for a meal for and they had the hutspa to charge us $1.50 for those 2 lousy pieces of bread. We have averaged 2 visits a month over the past year or so but they won't be seeing my money any time soon. This was the true meaning of PENNY WISE & POUND FOOLISH not too say very insulting......
