Our experience started off by seating us at a table out front in the middle of all the comings and goings. We were not happy and if it hadn’t been pouring rain outside, we would’ve left. We booked the table long in advance to celebrate a very special birthday but it made no difference. We’ve eaten at Garde Manger before and enjoyed the food tremendously tonight however was very different. My significant other ordered the scallops and they were ok but the artichokes with it were so over done that they were inedible. The Cesar was so watered down that we had to return it. Not worth the time and money. We will not return. Too bad

Had an amazing dinner and drinks this week. First time there and came highly recommended by coworkers in Calgary :) 10/10 will come back next time I’m in Montreal. Killian was a fantastic bartender and the staff were super kind!
Enjoyed the ambience and the service last night. We'll presented and served. The favours were very gastronomic. Worth it
I have to say, I was excited for this place and I’m not sure I’ve ever been so disappointed by any restaurant. First off, it’s super loud. The ambiance is totally killed with the open hospital lighting of the kitchen beaming in the room. The service was also so disappointing. The host took our order, then came back to tell us 10 min later they don’t have anymore bread. He wasn’t apologetic just recommended we order something else. We consistently felt like an afterthought and had no conversation with any staff — just quick order. Then the food… who on earth gave this a Michelin recommendation. The chicken was so rubbery and chewy. It looked nice, but was not good. Don’t get me started on the swordfish, or should I say the salt lick. I genuinely have never tasted something this salty. For a place with these sort of prices I’d expect the food, ambiance, and staff to all be much better than this. I genuinely can’t think of one good thing to say. Try a different restaurant for a nice night out and save yourself the disappointment.
Have been waiting to go to this restaurant for over 15 years since I started watching Chucks Day Off (Chuck, will you marry me 😉?). It has been a bucket list goal for so many years and man it did not disappoint. The service was impeccable. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and kept us engaged and entertained throughout our meal. We decided to go with the tasting menu and they went above and beyond to make sure we got everything we could want. The food was exceptional and definitely one of the best meals I have ever had. The vibes were on point and after the food service ended the music was turned up and everyone was dancing and having a great time. I cannot recommend Garde Manger enough. 100 stars out of 10. We will be back every time we visit Montreal.
An absolutely incredible experience. Dined with a group of four and WISELY ordered the Chef’s Menu. Coming in we knew to expect excellence but expectations were blown out of the water. Service was professional and personal, atmosphere was elegant but laid back with music that encouraged a good time, and THE FOOD WAS THE STAR OF THE SHOW!
A true gem!
My friends and I have made Garde Manger our annual destination whenever we visit Montreal. I’ve personally been about six times, and this was our group’s third visit together—our previous two experiences were outstanding. Unfortunately, this most recent visit was very underwhelming. Our reservation was at 9:30 PM (we had hoped for earlier, but nothing was available), and it took about an hour for our food to arrive. When it did, it was only lukewarm. Service also felt noticeably different this time. In past visits, the staff were warm and attentive, but during this experience our server felt less engaged with our table, which made the evening feel less welcoming overall. I understand it was late in the evening, and perhaps the team was winding down, but the atmosphere lacked the warmth we had come to expect. Typically, even if service is off, the food is what makes up for it—but unfortunately that wasn’t the case this time. While the dishes were beautifully plated, the flavours fell short. Between our group, we ordered the chicken, swordfish, and hanger steak, and all three were noticeably salty. After checking with my friends, they shared the same impression. All things considered, we’re hoping this was just a one-off experience. However, it has made us second-guess our decision to continue making this our go-to restaurant in Montreal.
Food is good. Wine overpriced. Service.... Not really there. Wowww. Get to the Gibby's for less. Don't recommend. Spent more than 1000$ with a group of 4.
One of the most memorable seafood meals I've ever had. You know a restaurant is amazing when they can make a carrot so flavourful and interesting you savour it as slowly and carefully as every other bite. Our server was fabulous and brought us perfect wine pairings for our courses. The cheerful person bussing our table was delighted to see that I had scraped up all the horseradish on my cocktail sauce which she proudly shared she had prepared for the prawns, which in itself was amazing--super thick, rich and tomatoey. It was a pleasure seeing staff taking pride in even the little details. Presentation for every dish was beautiful! I loved the clams on rocks! Every bite of each course had so much flavour, I had to lick the plate when no one was looking. We had the lowest tier chef's tasting menu, which included a seafood platter, clams, tuna, beets 4 ways, swordfish, turbot, the carrots, and two kinds of desserts. I only wish I lived here, I could come back on the regular! Thank you for a spectacular meal! I only gave 4 stars for ambiance because it was maybe not my favourite choice of music playing a little too loudly in the background, though I guess it was probably the vibe they were going for.
Always a lovely time. Great food
What an incredible experience beginning to end. The restaurant is warm and inviting, the staff very friendly and knowledgeable - all of their recommendations were fantastic. A huge thanks to David and Chef for ensuring our dinner was impeccable. I have some significant dietary constraints and wasn't sure I would be able to participate with the rest of the group in the storied tasting menu. However, David was most kind in coordinating with me in advance a full presentation with modifications to ensure I could enjoy the evening. Everything from the Ahi, to the beets, to the swordfish, salmon, carrot and the most incredible apple and coconut sorbet was delightful. Truly a unique and inviting experience, highly recommend.
This was legitimately one of the best meals that both me and my fiancée had ever had. It sounds like an exaggeration but it was true. Both of us agreed that we had never truly understood how a dish could be “perfectly balanced” until this meal. We had the chef’s menu (second tier) and every dish was delicious and was plenty of food (I am a hungry man and often find “fancy” restaurant meals don’t satisfy me but this was certainly not the case). We went to another nice restaurant the following night and it was good, but could not be compared to this meal. All of the service staff were also incredibly kind and attentive, and were accommodating of my fiancée’s gluten allergy. Our drinks (beer, wine, and cocktails) were all exceptional as well. A dinner we will not forget!
When living in Montreal, we were spoiled with incredible restaurants, but Garde Manger is truly in a league of its own. Speaking from experience as locals, this place is a vibe. The team is a vibe. The energy, the music, the atmosphere, it all just works. And the food? Impeccable every single time. Fresh, beautifully prepared, and consistently outstanding. The chocolate dessert is hands down our favorite. My husband and I have been here more times than we can count, and each visit the team has gone above and beyond. We hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner here and it was unforgettable. In Montreal, dining is a cultural experience, not just a meal. If you’re in MTL, make it a point to experience the food and atmosphere here at least once. Thank you Garde Manger! Keep doing what you’re doing.🤍
We upgraded to the most expensive tasting menu and the experience was confusing. We upgraded because we wanted more lobster. I'm not certain that's what we got. Our waiter seemed unable to clearly explain what the tasting menu included and whether there was any flexibility in asking for certain dishes. As courses came out, we were confused about how many appetizers and entrees there were. It would've been helpful to have something printed so we knew what to expect. We were disappointed with the wines by the glass selections, especially with respect to the white wines. The white wines we tasted were very dry. There did not seem to be any options for something off dry or fruity. The constant filling of our water glasses (after every sip) was off putting. It interrupted our conversations and created a disconnect during the meal. The food was outstanding.
One of the best meals I’ve had in a really long time. We opted for the tasting menu. There wasn’t a single miss. Everything was exceptional.
Food was good,, took 4 course meal. Not every bite is a party in your mouth but there were a few item that were amazing. The reason for the 3 star is ambiance. The front portion of the restaurant has nice decor and romantic vibe worthy of paying over $150 per person. However if you are unlucky and get seated at the back of the restaurant, well they should give a discount. It has an old bar look and the decor does not match the front.
Disappointed from the restaurant set up, too old and tables are very close to each other, very noisy and annoying. Food Ok not as we expected.. very expensive for what we got…
The food here is amazing and the service is next level!
Had a blast trying their tasting menu. It was a lot of food. Although it was some of the best seafood I've had, my most memorable courses were their vegetarian dishes, especially the chickory salad. The snow crab and octopus were quite unique and tasted great with amazing textures. Great cocktails as well and Felix was an amazing host. Cheers to Felix and rest of the staff for that last shot, it was an amazing end to a great meal
Absolutely Fantastic!! The best seafood I’ve had in Montreal with a very romantic atmosphere ❤️ deserving of Michelin praise!
Impeccable, friendly service. Delicious food. Lovely, warm space.
