What guests say about DEK SEN CUISINE THAÏLANDAISE

Thai cuisine is often described as very flavorful and authentic, with several popular dishes such as pad thai, green curry, beef panang, and tom yum. The service is often seen as warm and attentive, and many customers find the place cozy with good value for money. However, a few reviews mention portions that are considered small, wait times, and disappointing experiences with service or orders. Overall, it is a spot appreciated for the quality of the dishes, but the experience can be uneven depending on the visit.

Ordered pad see ew for takeout and specifically asked for it to be mild since I had a cough. Received a box of noodles with so much chili inside it was literally inedible.

I went to this restaurant today and found what looked like a hair in my food. I politely told the server, Scott, and he came back with the same plate saying he had just removed it. When I said I couldn’t continue eating and asked for it to be taken back, he still tried to charge us for it, saying “you can’t not pay for something you already ate, even if it’s half.” He then claimed it wasn’t a hair but a thread from a towel, and also said, “We’re not a restaurant like the Ritz.” Fast food or five-star restaurant, that’s not how you speak to a customer. What shocked me the most was that he kept smirking during the interaction while I was trying to stay respectful and discreet, because I didn’t want to create a scene and I know accidents can happen so I was trying to avoid others clients to hear us. Thankfully, after calling the boss, they agreed to remove the item from the bill, and I appreciate that. I actually really liked this restaurant before and always had good experiences with another very kind server and the food is also delicious, which is why this was even more disappointing.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are truly sorry to hear about what happened during your visit, and we sincerely apologize for the discomfort and disappointment this caused. Food safety, cleanliness, and respectful service are extremely important to us. Regardless of whether the object was a hair or a thread, the situation should have been handled with more care, sensitivity, and professionalism. We also regret that you felt disrespected during the interaction, as this is not the standard of service we expect from our team. We appreciate that you acknowledged your previous positive experiences with our restaurant and our food. However, we fully understand why this visit was disappointing. Please be assured that we will review this matter internally with our staff to ensure that similar situations are handled properly in the future. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. We value your feedback and sincerely hope we may have the opportunity to provide you with a much better experience next time.

I came to this Thai restaurant after seeing so many great reviews, and overall it was a very enjoyable dinner experience. We ordered the salt and pepper shrimp, beef fried rice, chicken khao soi, and Tom Yum soup. The salt and pepper shrimp was definitely the highlight for me. The shell was crispy while the shrimp inside stayed juicy and tender, almost like tempura. The seasoning was really layered — spicy, slightly sweet, and with a subtle numbing flavor that made it especially addictive. The beef sauce in the fried rice was excellent and very flavorful, though the beef itself was a little on the tougher side. The chicken khao soi had a rich and fragrant curry broth, and I could even taste a hint of satay-like flavor in it, which I really liked. That said, I felt the egg noodles could have been a bit chewier. Also, besides the chicken leg and pickled vegetables, I think adding more toppings or side ingredients — like bean sprouts or fresh herbs — would make the dish even better by adding more texture, freshness, and variety. The Tom Yum soup was a bit heavier and stronger in flavor than I expected, though I’m not sure if that’s closer to the authentic Thai style.

Dek Sen is hands down the best Thai in the plateau! The food is really yummy, fairly price and the management / staff are always great! Cudos to the manager for keeping a good team! If you’re going there, you HAVE to try the Beef Panang!

The food was amazing, the restaurant feels very welcoming and homey, the food took a little long to come but the taste was definitely worth the wait. We got the chicken wings, the spicy papaya salad and the curry lamb. We also got the panda crème brûlée for dessert which was light and the perfect way to end our meal! Everything was delicious but the lamb was definitely the highlight, some of the best Thai food we’ve had, thank you we will definitely be back!!!

The food is a 7.5/10. The big plus of this restaurant is that the meat is all halal. The service was lacking but the wait staff were nice on the rare occasion they came to your table. The Chicken Pad Thai wasn’t as flavorful as I had hoped and the Chicken Khao Gai Pad was really rich and the chicken was cooked very well, however the rice was quite underwhelming. Lastly, portion sizes were excellent and the area is close to dessert places.

First of all, the service was impeccable! Secondly, I will be coming back purely for the salt and pepper calamari. They were the best thing that I had! Everything was very flavorful, and overall good. I was only disappointed with the mango sticky rice. Despite this, I would definitely come back!

A spacious and comfortable spot that is perfect for catching up with friends over Thai food. We ordered the mango salad, green curry with chicken, and beef pad thai. The service was attentive and genuinely friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Would definitely return to explore more of the menu.

As a Thai, I can say the food at Deksen is very authentic and full of flavor. The dishes taste like home, well balanced and not overly adapted. Service is friendly and the atmosphere is cozy. I will definitely come back.

I was really excited to try this Thai place out, it’s been on my want to go list for ever so when we finally ordered out I had high expectations and they were not meant at all. I find the portions small for how much it was: the plates were at least 23$ each… look at the tofu ka prao: there is barely any tofu it’s just rice. The Pad Sew Ew noodles were good but the beef was hard… ick. Also can we talk bout the fact you have to pay 1.30$ or 2.35$ or 4.45$ more to have beef or chicken or shrimp instead of tofu?! The plate already started at 23.48$ what do u mean?? Overall not worth it at all.

Dek Sen Cuisine Thaïlandaise is a fantastic hidden gem in Montreal. The space is cozy and welcoming, and the food is clearly made with care and authentic flavours. I ordered the lamb, and it was outstanding — tender, perfectly cooked, and packed with rich, aromatic spices that felt both comforting and bold. You can tell the kitchen knows what it’s doing. As someone who spends a lot of time walking Montreal’s neighbourhoods and recommending local spots during my walking tours, this is exactly the kind of restaurant I love highlighting: locally owned, consistent, and genuinely memorable. It’s a great stop whether you’re a local or visiting the city and looking to eat well after exploring on foot. Highly recommend Dek Sen if you’re into authentic Thai cuisine and discovering great food in Montreal.

I was very disappointed in the service provided and the environment we experienced. This could have easily been a 5 stars because the food is great but we were freezing our butts inside the restaurant. We had to eat with our coats on. I don’t think a restaurant can legally run without heat during Quebec winter. CNESST should be involved. Plus, it took an unreasonable amount of time before getting our food (15min before taking our order, 30min before getting appetizers and 40min for our mains). 2 stars because I can’t blame the workers, they’re not the owners and they’re doing their best.

They took our booking for New Year Eve and when we arrived the restaurant was closed. There was no emails or call to update us about this situation. Our New Year Eve plans were effected badly!!
