Reviews / Ratings for Clarke Café (Kirkland)
YOU CANNOT STUDY HERE BETWEEN 11h-14h30!!! I love the food here and decided to grab a sandwich and study but I ended up realizing the wifi for clients wasn't popping up so I asked the staff and they said that the owner TURNS OFF THE WIFI between 11h-14h30 because it is considered rush hour to avoid people staying too long. All to say, wish I knew that before spending 30$ on a coffee and sandwich with a 20% tip... That being said, staff is friendly and the sandwiches are good. Coffee is okay.
Clarke Café is a true community partner. Their support and generosity mean a great deal, and it was felt throughout our entire event. Grateful for them and highly recommend.
Owner keeps moving customers around during lunch, after we waited for a table, ordered and sat. Laptops not welcome at any time since plugs have been closed and owner insists to move you and put other customers in your place even if you need the only one left open to charge and will seat you with strangers on a shared table with no plug. I explained my battery needs to be plugged at all time to work and was told it wasn’t really their problem, but somehow it was mine to move and prioritize other customers, regardless how much we order because my table had the minimum of 2 chairs and the second one wasn’t being utilized (anymore, a friend was there and left). It was honestly not good for business as an approach. Everyone spoken to was turned off. The two customers you would get by moving those already seated often don’t order more than a single person seated, who keeps ordering as they work. However if you feel the business really would benefit from that tradeoff, I suggest stickers on the tables you want no laptops on during lunch hours saying no laptops (11:30-1:30) on the tables of your choice and to reopen plugs if you want customers with laptops to actually believe they’re welcome at other hours of the day. Otherwise, you’re losing an entire group of customers who always go to cafes to work. It’s not a library, strangers often don’t want to share a table. If it is acceptable, then people without laptops should be open to share their tables too. It is a very unpleasant experience to be asked to prioritize other customers when you were there first, and told it isn’t their business if you need to charge. That’s not how you speak to customers. The cafe is cute, it’s a shame how many people this happened to.
This place is a gem!! Great vibes, great staff, great coffee and food. Highly recommend
This place has large windows and is spacious and clean. The perfect place to have lunch with a friend or just get a coffee!
Used to go to Clarke's original location back in day! So happy to see their new location. The price quality of their sandwiches is still very high.
Great coffee shop! The sandwiches are fresh and delicious, and the coffee is good. The place has a beautiful design and is always very clean. Definitely worth a visit!
For Sasha, Aprille, and anyone else who feels that cafes are their personal living rooms... Clarke Cafe is a restaurant and a cafe. Anyone taking up space for hours with a single $6 latte, where that table might normally be used at lunchtime for $50+ of business for food and drinks for two people, is an entitled brat. Yes, they've had to make adjustments based on the sheer number of students taking up hours of space for a single drink. It's not ideal for some people, because it doesn't feel comfortable paying a drink and then being asked to move. But the owner is very polite, a good guy who takes great care of his customers. But he has a business to run. Between say 11:30am and 2:00pm, his lunch customers also deserve a place to sit and eat. If you owned a business like this, you wouldn't want to see people walking in for lunch, see an army of laptops and no open tables, and walk out the door. This is what's happening, and he needs to be able to balance your right as a customer with his right to make money on his business. Anyway, long rant over. Clarke Cafe is a great spot for coffee, food, vibes. Staff is great, customers are great, all of it. You just can't park yourself there for 3-5 hours, especially over lunch, while customers wanting to eat and spend 4-5X what you're spending.
My bad review is not about the food or the customer service. The employees are amazing, and the food is delicious. My issue lately is with the management. I sometimes like to take my laptop and do some light work while sipping on my coffee. yesterday april 14th,2026. The manager shuts down the internet. Then you can see him staring at anyone who has any electronics bigger than a phone. I am so turned off by this shift in management's behavior that I won't go there again. at least i am not the only one that been noticing that lately.
Clarke Cafe has become my regular morning stop on the way to work. The coffee and croissants are great! I’ve also tried their lunch, and the food is excellent. Great quality, fresh, and very good portions for the price. The staff is friendly and the place is well run. Definitely a spot I keep coming back to. Highly recommend!
Great place to have coffee and a relaxing place
Great food and quality. Great value for your money. Always friendly and courteous staff. Clean kitchen and surroundings. Well worth the visit and experience. A must try in the West Island. The owner and staff always go out of their way to make your visit a memorable destination and experience.
Frank and the staff are very accommodating and food and drinks are Top notch.
Top notch food, best sandwiches and great service. Love it!
Best sangwich ever! Great family business!
Have been here many times over the years. Best sandwich and coffee in the city. The workers are friendly and the atmosphere has a great vibe. Reading some of the complaints about being asked to leave because you are studying….. this man runs a business not a library!!!! Be considerate
Clarke cafe feels like home! Coffee, food and hospitality make this place feel like no other. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating!
Great place to grab a bite to eat. Friendly service and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend
Absolutely love this place! The coffee is consistently excellent and the sandwiches are fresh. My go-to is the chicken cutlet with pickles and hot peppers. It’s become my favourite spot when visiting the West Island. I’ve noticed some negative reviews from people upset that they can’t camp out with a laptop, but honestly, this is a coffee shop not a co‑working space! Shout out to the staff, they are always so friendly! I highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for great coffee and food.
Best sandwich in West Island. Try a Nutella horn !
Best Sangwich in the city let alone the West Island. Warm and friendly and always a cool Vibe plus always lots of easy parking. Honestly it’s a must try and once you go you will keep going back…. Try the cutlet…. Unreal how good it is!!!
Great service great staff
My friend and I ordered coffees and sandwiches and spent just over two hours doing some work. The manager then told us to leave to make space for “rush hour,” despite many empty tables, and even shut off the WiFi for three hours to enforce it. It felt blatantly profit-driven, with no regard for creating returning customers. Uncomfortable experience, it was our first time but we won’t be back.
this was my first time visiting this cafe and i was honestly super excited to try a new, large cafe in the west island… but i must admit, i left pretty disappointed :( i came here with a friend to work on a school project and we showed up at around 11:15am. by the time we ordered drinks and food, sat down, took all our stuff out, chatted a bit, and got the wifi password, the wifi shut off. apparently they close the wifi from 12:00pm to 2:30pm to encourage ”customer turnover” which i thought was strange! we decided to tough it out and use a hotspot instead since we knew we’d be here working for a few hours at least and didn’t want to leave after settling in. at around 1:30, the owner approached our table and a few others to tell us that we had to leave. he explained that he wanted to prioritize customers eating lunch, although we ourselves had ordered food/drinks and there were plenty of free spots left in the cafe. it’s a pretty big space, probably one of the largest cafes in the west island, and i think it’s a strange business model to have :( i understand it being a cafe/restaurant but then why not divide it by laptop and no laptop use sections? there’s definitely enough room for it! and we were in the corner at a table for 2. anyway, the owner said he appreciated receiving feedback so this is mine! my friend and i ended up leaving and going to a starbucks instead. i probably won’t be coming back to study or sit down here again since it doesn’t feel worth the effort only to be asked to leave shortly after !!
