Food and service were exceptional. The tables and chairs were an issue. The chairs were extremely uncomfortable. The tables looked like the were out of the 1950’s with no tablecloths. The environment was lacking. Even the bathrooms were rough.
What guests say about Chez Rioux & Pettigrew
Chez Rioux & Pettigrew is highly appreciated for its refined cuisine, tasting menus, and wine pairings, which are often described as excellent. The service is generally warm, attentive, and well explained, and the atmosphere is often considered cozy, romantic, and polished. A few reviews do mention small portions, waits between courses, and, more rarely, inconsistent experiences or discomforts. It is a good choice for a special occasion if you enjoy a more elaborate dining experience.

Beautiful restaurant, warm and welcoming staff. The food was excellent as was the service. A perfect place for a special birthday dinner.
An amazing meal. The tartar had the potential to be an overly produced dish, but every element was exactly on point. Our server, Jade, was sweet and engaging, and made incredible wine pairing recommendations.
The food was exceptional - we had the cheese plate, steak and octopus. All perfectly cooked. Our waiter, Juan, was amazing. Helpful in deciding from the menu and wine.
Amazing! It’s been my 8 time at this restaurant and they amaze me every time. The beef tartare is one of the best I’ve had. Lobster and shrimp cake is really tasty, specially the broth. Service is outstanding! Everyone super friendly and the fact that you can pass through the kitchen is so cool. Everyone is very welcoming.
We had the surprise menu and it was visually stunning and the food was superb! Truly one of the best meals we have ever had and we travel a lot! The atmosphere was great and the staff was knowledgeable, fun and attentive! Highly recommend!
I went to this restaurant as a suggestion from one of the food tour guides. I am so glad he did. This restaurant was so comfortable and gracious. I had a pasta dish that was the best I have ever tasted.
Great place. Food tasted and looked great. We had the experience taster menu and really enjoyed it. Staff were friendly and helpful. Loved the decor.
Outstanding in all areas. Such a fun atmosphere, excellent food and service!
Our experience was fantastic! The food was incredible. The staff were amazing, attentive but not instrusive. Easily the best meal we had during our stay in Quebec City.
Nice place in Québec, attentional, friendly people and atmosphere. Worth to go.
Exquisite! Signature tasting menu was exceptional! A perfect evening!
Amazing meal!!! We did the set menu and it was superb. There was a mix up with our reservation but staff was WONDERFUL and accommodated us. Really great experience!
Awesome food, Great attentive service, Perfect Atmosphere. A+++++
Had the blind tasting menu with wine pairing. Amazing food, the experience was just perfect. Our favourite was the gazpacho, every spoonful was the perfect balance of flavours. Merci!!
Went for the chef's tasting menu with optional extra (foie gras and scallop) and wine flight. The food was good, but the extras (above) didn't add anything: they felt as if they had been tucked onto the side of the plate and didn't really fit with chef's "creation" for that dish and so were a waste of money. Loved the interior and ambience. The dishes arrived in quick succession, which felt a little too fast for the experience. Service was very good.
The staff were knowledgable about the menu and have helpful recommendation. Food portions are rich and filling. The Sommelier recommendation were excellent complimented the dishes we ordered. The servers also recommended the best way to consume our appetizer for best experience which was excellent. Overall for a first time visit we highly recommend and will return when we’re back in Quebec City.
We found this restaurant in a big rainy evening. Luckly we got a table for 5 without reservation. The staffs are professional and friendly. Food and drink are really good.
Funky and fun atmosphere. Food was very good with inventive dishes and layered flavours. Service was bad. We did the tasting menu. Wines poured and finished before food arrived. No explanation of the dish when wine poured as 'its a secret'. No explanation of why the wine was selected for the dish. Definitely not a Michelin experience.
The atmosphere, both in location in vieux-Quebec and within the restaurant is warm and inviting. The place is clearly run and worked by staff that care about what they do. The food was out of this world. I shared 3 plates with my partner, and a dessert. Each one was a delight of flavours and textures, and my favourite dish was the burrata which I was least expecting since Tartare and the Hanger beef were more to my tastes. But! The burrata was light, complex, and gave me literal goosebumps, which I had forgotten was possible when it comes to food. The tartare also gave me goosebumps, and I found the price to be quite reasonable for everything! Service was wonderful and mine and my partner's split answer on whether we preferred French or English lead to a nice bilingual evening haha. Our server was very helpful in navigating the plethora of enticing choices and brought us her favourite wine when the one we requested was out. Wonderful wine, that I will keep secret hehe. The cocktails were exquisite as well. Chez Rioux & Pettigrew receives my deepest recommendations for a romantic date night and overall culinary experience!
Phenomenal local cuisine in an old general store, beautiful vintage decor, great service, amazing wine list and top-notch service. The food is original, surprising and as delicious as beautiful. Highly reccomend 👌
Had a great time, our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. Food was some of the best I’ve ever had and wines were paired perfectly. Definitely recommend!
R&P more than deserve their Michelin Star - the food was creative, local ingredients and BOOM - fantastic dishes. We started with the cheese plate - all local Quebec products. Our server gave us an in depth explanation of everything on the platter. Both our main courses knocked it out of the park - delicious is not strong enough, the visual presentation, and then the server's introduction to what we were about to enjoy. Bonus was being seated in the older section, by the windows. Loved the old-fashioned vibe, and watching the bar tender prepare the perfect cocktails. If we get back to Quebec, R&P will be our fist stop.
What a wonderful find
Two of us had the 3 course lunch, gazpacho, chicken with mushroom arachini and cake, sounds unassuming but was anything but, each course decided and delicious! I wish I lived here so I could make it my regular choice to dine!!!
