Hmmm... I generally don't give reviews. But in this case I had to. Here we go and why. I came to this place few times throughout the last few years since 2018... and everytime the experience was going uphill. Yesterday I think was the best of the best I had in any restaurant i would say. We all come to restaurants for the food. But we wanna feel welcome and feel like we are at home. From the first step we got it we met Ben for Benoit. His energy and his welcoming expression was amazing. We got a bit late 30min late and he didn't make a fuss about it like some restaurants do. He brushed it off like no problem let me see what we can do. Right there and there he toned down our being late anxiety. ( which some of us feel it ) After that it was a smooth ride. Every single staff was memorable. These are people that travel the world explore new experiences and try new food. So they can bring back the best of the best that they have gathered. Il keep this short even tho it's not food was amazing prices are on point considering quality wise and the ambiance was the Most Most welcoming I have ever felt in a while. Restaurants are not having it easy n either us as customers but this was a perfect blend where we both meet each other in the perfect middle. The true meaning of food is enjoying the company of the people we are with. I can certainly say we did enjoy that yesterday ( and the food yummy as well ) Shout out to Jade as well for her great service too. See you guys very soon!!

Hi, Wow… thank you so much for this, it honestly means a lot! I really appreciate you taking the time to write this, especially since you don’t usually leave reviews. Hearing that your visits just keep getting better (and that this one was the best!) truly makes my day. It was a real pleasure having you with us and taking care of you. I’ll definitely pass the message along to the whole team — they’ll be so happy to hear this. And thanks as well for mentioning the vibe, that “feel at home” energy is exactly what we’re going for. Can’t wait to have you back C'était un pur plaisir de vous servir et ce sera toujours un immense bonheur de vous accueillir! Benoit

We waited 1.5h between courses (with kids), apparently because of a large group in the next room. Nobody came by to ask if we wanted a second drink, nor did they come by to check on us at any time throughout the almost 3-hour endeavour. Atmosphere was nice. Food was ‘meh’, but not even close to Michelin calibre. Had to use the same cutlery for all the courses… I thought that was strange for a restaurant trying for Michelin recognition.

A true gem! This was our third year in a row we’ve returned (coming all the way from Montreal). Everything is wonderful. The service is outstanding and make you feel at home. The food is creative, innovative, but approachable. I recommend the blind tasting - such an adventure!

My wife and I often spend a few weekends each year in Québec City, and on this trip we decided to try Chez Rioux based on several recommendations. Since it’s Michelin‑recommended, we were excited to experience what it had to offer. We were seated at 5:50 PM and ordered the 4-course tasting menu with wine pairing as suggested by our server as we were first time guests. The whole experience lasted 3 hours. During that time, we watched multiple tables of 4-6 diners who arrived later finish their meals and leave. Unfortunately, while each dish was good and paired well with the wines they chose, for a bill of over $450 for two people none stood out as particularly memorable or worth returning for, and we both felt the à la carte options looked more appealing than what we received. We left feeling underwhelmed and still hungry. The atmosphere is cozy and charming, Unfortunately, the service didn’t match the ambiance. We waited more than 20-30 minutes or more between each course. Although our servers were friendly, their explanations were difficult to follow. Overall, while Chez Rioux may appeal to diners who enjoy this particular style of tasting menu, we didn’t feel the experience justified the cost. Aside from the décor, the evening was disappointing, especially at this price point.

5 ⭐️ all around!! The food was remarkable, the service was lovely, the wine was delicious. The atmosphere is incredible - so beautifully and intentionally decorated. We had the signature tasting menu and were blown away with the quality. Some of our favourite wines we’ve ever had and one of the best meals too. It doesn’t get better than this! Ben was an angel, can’t imagine better service.

My partner and I went for Valentine’s Day, and had an absolutely amazing experience! We are usually skeptical of prix fixe menu evenings, but every dish was delicious and thoughtfully curated. The staff was extraordinarily attentive and kind, and we did not feel rushed at all. Chic and romantic ambiance, but unpretentious. Fairly priced and we are still thinking about the food a week later. I can’t say enough kind words about our experience here, it was very special!

Lovely meal experience at Chez Rioux & Pettigrew. We chose the chef's tasting menu which included 4 diverse, delicious courses, and a wine pairing. The staff was knowledgable, enthusiastic, and bilingual in French and English, which really helped as they explained each course. Pricing felt quite reasonable as well. We loved the ambiance and the way they honoured the heritage of the building/restaurant. Would not hesitate to recommend or return.

Our group of 12 women had a four-course dinner with wine pairing---it was absolutely outstanding from start to finish. The food was incredible and each wine pairing was perfect.Juan our waiter was fantastic--he was-knowledgeable, fun and engaging--the entire wait staff was attentive and professional. Everything ran seamlessly for our group. It was truly a perfect night and one of the best dining experiences we've had.

We spent over $400 for two people and left feeling underwhelmed. The six-course tasting menu consisted of very small portions—approximately two bites per course—which left us still hungry by the end of the meal. We ultimately had to visit another restaurant afterward to feel satisfied. While the presentation and concept may appeal to those accustomed to this style of dining, we personally found the food to be good but not exceptional, especially considering the price point. I also mentioned to our server in advance that it was my partner’s birthday. The response was simply “okay,” and there was no acknowledgment during the meal—no birthday wish or small gesture, which is something many restaurants typically provide. It felt like a missed opportunity to create a more memorable experience. Overall, while the restaurant may suit those who appreciate this type of cuisine and format, we did not feel the experience justified the cost.

Expensive mediocrity. Second time at R&P. First time was exceptional- sat at the bar, server was knowledgeable, humorous and had amazing pairing recommendations. This time: server was clueless, up charged us wine per glass, scallop main dish was middle of the road-fishy tasting and not amazing. Brioche fish toasts were creative but not tasty. Bread and foie gras were solid. If it wasn’t for the martini with Quebecois gin, I would’ve been angry.
