Stopped by on the fly during the Passover period and just had a quick bite. The over is supper passionate and his family lineage goes back to the Rubiner Inn in Saint Agath. Atmosphere. Lovely, clean, cool wall decoration and the open kitchen gives confidence in the kitchen staff and cleanliness. Service. Pretty good even when busy. Food. Delicious. So we didn’t eat much, but we saw and smelled other tables foods and asked a lot of questions. Passover latke was fantastic. I compare it to by grandmothers potato kugel. Only issue is it was reheated and not warmed properly all the way through. Taste and texture were spot on and price was decent. The Matza Brie with maple syrup was perfectly done and would eat it all year round. Other tables feedback. Every dish other people ate consistently one after another was “amazing, delicious, gonna come back again and tell friends”. This was from at least 20 plus people. The food is not gourmet and not quite a deli. It’s kind of a mini Brown Derby blended with a Murray’s diner with a bubba and zayde influence. It’s warm comfort food from the Eastern European influence. Does not matter what your background is, this is a cultural expertise both in food and also speaking with the owner and his dad who seems to hang around a lot - and happily so as he’s a mench like his son, seen in one of the photos. So will I return. Yes, if I’m in the area I will certainly come for a bit to eat and tell friends.
Reviews / Ratings for Chez Greenberg
Love this place wholeheartedly. I come here for a quick bites, on lunch dates, to catch up with friends, to work on uni projects, and most importantly for the date squares. Anytime I get asked for lox bagels recommendations in the city, I always plug Chez Greenberg. The staff is super nice, the food is always great, and the playlist is on point! True gem in the mile end:)
Come for the food. Stay for the Jake. Leave with happiness. You’ll always feel like family ;)
Chez Greenberg… listen. This place doesn’t mess around. I went in hungry, came out questioning my entire standard for comfort food. The smoked salmon plate? Clean, salty, silky like it just came out of someone’s grandmother’s kitchen who doesn’t tolerate nonsense. Then the knish poutine… WHAT are we doing here in the best way possible. Crispy, soft, like a warm hug. It’s chaotic, it’s rich, it works. Latke? Crunch on the outside, soft inside, exactly how it should be. No shortcuts. And the soup… simple, honest, and hits you right in the chest. That “slow down for a second” kind of good. This place feels real. No gimmicks. Just people who know what they’re doing and care about it. 10/10. I’ll be back, probably too often.
Great overall dining experience. Chez Greenberg offers a really nice balance between quality food and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The menu is well thought out, with flavorful dishes that feel fresh and carefully prepared, and you can tell attention is given to both taste and presentation. The portions are satisfying without being overwhelming, and the pricing feels fair for the level of quality you get. The staff are friendly and attentive, creating a comfortable environment from the moment you walk in, although service can slow down slightly during busier times. The space itself is clean, cozy, and enjoyable for both casual meals and small gatherings. Overall, a solid spot with great food and a good vibe, definitely worth trying if you’re in the area.
The Seder meal for 6 people was outstanding! The organization of the food required, the freshness and the quality of the food was exceptional. They provided everything required including a Seder Plate! The highlights were the hand grated horseradish, the vegan chopped liver with fried onions, the coleslaw, the delicious baked salmon, the yummy mushroom cutlets, and the home grown karpaS salad. Bravo! A job well done.
Everything was exceptional !
Great food, solid hamantash, fantastic ambience, sweet staff
By far the best smoked salmon bagel. Great friendly service and amazing vibes.
First time chez Chez Greenberg and def not the last. Owner was super friendly he recommended the salmon and whitefish sandwiches very yummyy
Very nice but on the expensive side for a simple lox! Everything is homegrown tho!
Worst experience. EVERY TIME I order from there, they send me the wrong items.
I ordered the schmear latke with OG lemon, their coffees and the smoked salmon (which I was most excited about). Everything was delicious and I will definitely be reordering the smoked salmon. Here was our brunch spread haha
They didn’t play around when they said the lox bagel is SOOOO GOOD… and now I get it. Their coffee was also fantastic! Friendly staff, always smiling. Dining in was very comfortable as well. Bought a latke and apple knish to go. Definitely will come back very soon!
One of the tastiest bagel sandwiches I’ve ever had. We got the BLC , The breakfast bagel, and the tomato soup. The coffee was great too. We’ll definitely come back.
Discovered a local gem ☕✨ from A to Z, and I’m obsessed 🩷👍
da best ever, very homie and warm food
Yum yum yum. Perfectly balanced bagel and lox. Killer Knisch. Best staff. Highly recommend.
The greatest sandwiches in Montreal. Phenomenal coffee too.
Perfect comfort food. I had a small matzoh ball soup, nice soup and not too salty. The bagel with lox was great, excellent lox and the crispy onions are really nice touch. Also enjoyed the potato latke. Will try to go back during a short visit to Montreal.
