Had a very satisfying experience here recently. The staff made us feel welcome right away, ordering was straightforward, and the food was delicious. The overall vibe of the restaurant was relaxed and inviting. I’d definitely return in the future.

If you are looking for a place to hang out for a long time, and not have to order much this restaurant is perfect. It took 30 minutes to order drinks, then another 30 for them to arrive with no communication from the server. Half of our party were Quebecoise, so it wasn't a language issue. The food has good flavor, but avoid ordering the soup. It didn't arrive until the rest of us finished our food, and although it looked impressive, was impossible to eat. To top it off, uur check was wrong, and I'm hoping they successfully cancelled the first one, but right now I see both charges pending.

I came here for brunch with my friends and we had a really great experience overall. The food was absolutely delicious—everything we tried was flavorful, fresh, and very well prepared. You can really tell they put effort into the quality and presentation. The place is beautiful and has a nice atmosphere, although it is quite small, so it can feel a bit crowded, especially during busy brunch hours. The buffet is on the pricier side at $35 per person (plus taxes), and drinks are not included, which adds up. That said, I do think it’s worth it for the quality of the food. One thing that could definitely be improved is the service speed. The staff are very kind and friendly, but the system is a bit slow since you can’t serve yourself—someone serves you, which creates long lines and waiting times. Overall, despite a few downsides, I would still recommend this place for a tasty and enjoyable brunch experience!

We were 4 people and all disappointed from the whole experience. It started when a couple leaving the restaurant wished us “Good Luck” and we soon found out why… Although the restaurant has a charming warm atmosphere service was at a turtle pace and inadequate. The restaurant had only a few occupied tables, and it was slowwww! Drinks took over 40-45 minutes to arrive and I had to nudge, but they were at least, very good ( it’s the only thing that was). We ordered Nacho appetizers they were also good but the shrimp and calamari were from a frozen box nothing Mexican about them…. Next! Afterwards it was a disaster ! We got there at 8:15 and our food arrived after 10 pm all 4 dishes were lukewarm and mediocre at best. Not at all what we expected, nothing Authentic about them. Don’t bother going to this place there are much better Mexican restaurants in the city that won’t waste your time and money. Sorry guys but you need to UP your game!

Silvana p.. While we appreciate the time you took to write this elaborate piece ... Let’s be real: if you truly sat for 120 minutes in a nearly empty room without opening your mouth once, the problem isn't the service it's your complete lack of common sense. Most people in the real world would speak to a manager after 30 minutes, but you supposedly chose to sit there for two full hours just to have something to complain about later? But we both know the truth: you’re just making up Your 'frozen box' comment is an ignorant insult to our kitchen team who prepares everything from scratch daily And couple wishing you 'Good Luck really???

Service was ok but very slow. Not sure if it's because they are lacking staff or something else. The restaurant was not even full. Only one server was serving all the 6 tables.

I was very excited to try this restaurant because the decor was beautiful and I'm a huge fan of authentic Mexican food, which is what I thought I was going to get. Instead, I got an extremely plain and simple "dish" with every part lacking seasoning. I ordered the Pescadilla which was advertised as a fried taco dish, I was expecting a nice saucy quesadilla with some cheese and vegetable toppings. But the dish itself was plain white fish inside plain corn tortillas. With plain lettuce thrown on top and a bit of white cheese. Even the sauce on the side was a plain tomato type sauce that didnt even have spice. I was very confused as I see no universe in which this can be called "authentic" mexican food. My partner also ordered the Fajita which only came with 2 tortillas along with a skillet of fajita filling and some sides, the beans and rice sides literally had no salt on them, just plain black beans. This was a very disappointing and confusing experience and although I expect the cocktails must be good/a selling point, I won't be coming back to try them.

Hello Bronwyn. It appears your disappointment stems from a fundamental misunderstanding of the traditional dishes you ordered. To help clarify your experience for future reference, here is the culinary distinction you missed: Pescadilla (noun): A classic Mexican coastal dish consisting of a corn tortilla folded over a seasoned fish stew (guiso) and deep-fried until crisp. Expecting a 'saucy quesadilla' when ordering a Pescadilla is a mistake in expectation, not a failure in our kitchen. They are two entirely different preparations. Regarding the fajitas, two large flour tortillas are the traditional portion; however, extra tortillas, as well as salt, pepper, and our variety of house made salsas, are always available at your service upon request. Our staff is there to make your experience as pleasant as possible, but we cannot provide what isn't asked for during your visit. If your preference is for a dish with a higher tortilla to filling ratio or something pre-wrapped, a burrito would likely be more suitable for you. Lastly, we intentionally avoid over salting our food to respect the integrity of the ingredients. Authentic Mexican cuisine relies on a complex balance of spices, not an abundance of sodium. In casa azul our commitment to traditional recipes we take great pride in our heritage

Extremely disappointing experience. Reserved a large group for a birthday brunch. Arrived at noon to find a locked door, were finally let in after a few minutes of knocking. Staff seemed disinterested in providing us any information nor did they seem prepared for us or any other guests. Server was completely uninformed about the menu and drink options and appeared to be inexperienced and overwhelmed by a single table. The only option was a buffet. After being seated at 12 the buffet was not ready until almost 1pm. Once it opened they only had a single staff member serving and the line was 15-20 people long at all times with a 20+ minute wait to finally be served. What was meant to be a fun birthday brunch turned in to a long wait, overpriced food, and god awful service. Bills came and it was time for more confusion as they needed to be reprinted several times to account for erroneous items. Would not return, would not recommend and would not force this place on my worst enemy.

Service is very slow. Food is mid, I asked for my asada steak medium rare and it came to me basically like shoe rubber. Originally I wanted tacos and rice but they dont come with rice, so the waitress suggested this plate because she said I can "build my taco" but no it was basically a steak platter, no tortillas came with it. So I was a little disappointed because I really wanted tacos. Not once did the waitress come to see if everything was okay with our food, I would have complained about my steak before hand but I couldn't. When we finished our plates, we waited a long time and we had to call her to get her to take our plates and ask for my dessert and bills. The tres leches cake was good though.... I am pleased that they didnt charge me for my plate, but Mexican food is my favorite and I was very disappointed. Unfortunately I will not be returning to this restaurant again.

Finally, a Mexican restaurant in Montreal that goes beyond tacos and celebrates the traditional cuisine - beautifully executed, elaborate dishes like moles, molcajete, and chiles en nogada, the kind of food that is so hard to find done right. The drink selection is solid mezcal offering and cocktails that go well beyond basic margaritas. Service is outstanding: attentive, quick, offered in three languages. The ambiance is the perfect balance of authentic Mexican vibe without trying too hard. No unnecessary sophistication, just genuinely flavorful, carefully prepared food served in a warm, inviting setting. A place you come to enjoy real Mexican cuisine, not a simplified version of it.

Pros: Beautiful ambience and decor, good service, great selection of Mexican dishes some of which would be hard to find anywhere else. Cons: It is of course the food why we came to this place. We really wanted to try Chile en nugada especially after reading the novel “Like Water for Chocolate”. And what a disappointment when it was served lukewarm. Asked the server and he said it was normal as they did not want us to burn ourselves. Yet the molcajete came extremely hot as expected! Also Chile en nugada came without pomegranate seeds which is a must in this recipe. Budget cuts? And the molcajete mixte which costs $75 also speaks of budget cuts. It was missing the promised grilled cheese and nopales and had only a small quantity of beef, only 3 small tiger shrimps. It did have some cheap filler that looked like potato flautas. Overall impression: mixed feelings, unsure if would come back.

As a Mexican, discovering this place made me proud. From the decor to the service, everything reflects authentic Mexican culture. I went to brunch (must try ) with my partner and we were really happy to see our culture and gastronomy represented with such care and respect. Paisanos, let’s support places like this!
