Two stars overall, not because the food was that bad (though the poutine was average, and not as good as Louis in Sherbrooke; the chicken was substandard meat) but because the price was so high: 27 dollars including tax for a large poutine with chicken and peas, which my wife and I shared...more expensive than Louis and not as good. Also, my wife was a couple of cents short for a can of Pepsi, and the staff didn`t let her have a can, which I thought was mean-spirited. We won`t be returning here. Maybe we just caught these guys on a bad day, but really, you can find better and more affordable poutine in Quebec.
Reviews / Ratings for Cantine Chez Paul
Coming from overseas, I had never tried poutine before, so traveling to Québec made it only a matter of time. While driving through the Cantons-de-l’Est, I stayed one night in Magog and discovered this small roadside spot, Cantine Chez Paul, filled with local customers — always a great sign. I decided to try the smoked meat poutine and wow, I was not disappointed! Absolutely delicious. The friendly service and the sweet elderly cooks made the experience even more authentic and memorable. A true Québec gem off the beaten path. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ordered the smoked meat poutine (medium) combo which comes with a drink. Smoked meat was absolutely amazing and so was the poutine. Hearty portions, plenty of meat and cheese. Was well worth the stop! Will actually try and visit again while we are in town.
The definition of a Quebec institution. One of the most authentic poutines, and amazing Steamies, you can get. The interior hasn't changed in decades. Friendly andnfjn service.
