Excellent food and service at reasonable price. They serve smaller plates set for sharing. Excellent menu, they exceeded our expectations
Reviews / Ratings for Cadet
Had a fun night at Cadet. We were a group of six, which is perfect here since the whole concept is built around sharing plates. We started with a couple orders of the focaccia with cheddar and spicy oil (a must), then moved on to the broccoli spätzle with labneh and pistachios, the butternut squash with sheep feta, balsamic vinaigrette and pecans, the cod croquettes with spicy mayo, and the shrimp skewers with satay, Brussels sprouts, and ginger. For mains, we shared a couple of orders of the flank steak with burnt chili salsa, Szechuan pepper sauce, and pickled peppers, along with the chicken wings with jerk sauce, caramelized onion chutney, and scallions, and the zucchini with chicken skin, hot honey, and pickled lemon. Everything was delicious including the wine. Great service and energy in the room. All in all a really good night.
Loved the food, service was subpar for that price point
This was a truly unique and incredible dining experience! The wait staff was professional, the interior design was sleek, and the food was creative and delicious. We were impressed by the blackened cod, broccoli salad, and beet salad which our lovely server recommended.
Food and service were outstanding. I can understand why this is a Michelin Guide creative food recommendation. Dishes are offered tapas style and everything we tried was exceptional. The squid was by far our favorite and I would skip the broccoli and spaetzel. We had to order the focaccia to enjoy the rest of the sauce but the dipping sauce with the focaccia was also delectable. I will definitely be back to try more dishes.
Had the black cod and a glass of white, both very good. The waitress M. was friendly and helpful.
Visited on a Monday — the restaurant was quite busy, despite being in an area that has unfortunately declined and is now one of the rougher parts of downtown. The food was good overall, about what you would expect. The scallops stood out, and the chocolate tart and tartare were also very solid. Unfortunately, the service was extremely disappointing — one the worst we’ve experienced in Montreal, especially for this type of establishment. We had clearly noted that it was a birthday, and it was completely overlooked. It took 45 minutes just to place our order, and clearing between courses took another 10–15 minutes each time. Getting a server’s attention was consistently difficult. At the end, we were told the team was overwhelmed and that the birthday had not been communicated. That doesn’t excuse the experience. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. There are far better options in Montreal.
Superb meal. Loved my black cod, even the butternut quash was so refreshing.
Our third visit in as many years. Absolutely superb small plates in a hip setting. Service is flawless. Everyone works together as a team, it's amazing to watch and lovely to experience :)
Well!! I dined here for the first time on the 3rd of March around 9pm. Very much enjoyed the menu and tried a bit of everything. My favourite was the focaccia with the sauce. Very delicious. I also loved the giant fish with the sauce as well. I enjoyed many things here but they could be more bold with the flavours. Everything was light and airy but I’m more looking for something that makes my palate dance. I didn’t do any research on this place before going. But you are and that’s why I’m sure you’ll know what to expect. Light, delicious, tasty, a bit lacking and very fancy with the portion sizes. Thank you for reading ♥️
Food is excellent. Service was very lovely. Tabkes crammed in like sardines.
The whole time my husband and I were there we had very poor service. It took more than 15 minutes for us to have someone take our order. From there once we received the food roughly 20 minutes later the waiter and waitress did not check in on us once. Never came to ask how we are enjoying the meal or if they can bring us anything. Once we finished our meals the servers never once came by to clear our table and remove the dishes. They never offered us a desert menu and never approached us. This is the worst service I have ever received, especially for a Michelin star restaurant. We had to wave down a waiter to get a bill, otherwise it seems like no one would've came and ask or check. The food was mediocre at best, we had the chicken wings to share which was decent. But my husband had the steak and it was not very good, he noted it was cooked strangely and it was chewy. The flavors did not make sense with chutney and Szechuan. And I had the market price fish and it was tasty at the time but later that night I had been glued to the toilet. The whole time I've been at Montreal and eaten all sorts of food this is the only place that made me feel sick physically after. I also noticed that after my husband and I left that there was a coat check at the front, something nobody offered us? We noticed that the other tables received proper service having servers checking in on them regularly. And we were practically ignored the entire time we were at the restaurant. We were going to get a desert but no one came to check on us for more than 20 minutes that we just wanted to leave. Either way this is the worst service I've received anywhere, nonetheless a Michelin star restaurant. The food was mediocre, I will never come back to this restaurant and will never recommend anyone to come here.
Tried this place last night and overall it was a mixed experience. The restaurant itself is very nice and the atmosphere is enjoyable. The sommelier recommended a bottle of wine that we really liked; however, after asking to see two bottles around the $85 range, we were presented with one priced at $120. We decided to go with it and did enjoy the wine, but the upsell was a bit surprising. We ordered four dishes to share. We started with the butternut squash, which was pretty good and well prepared. The lamb T-bone was very tasty and well seasoned, but unfortunately about half of it was fat, which took away from the enjoyment. When we mentioned this to our waitress, she was very professional and immediately offered for us to choose another item from the menu at no charge, which we appreciated. The side of fingerling potatoes, however, was undercooked and disappointing. We finished with the chocolate tart, which was excellent and easily the highlight of the meal. Overall, there were some strong points, and the service handled the issue with the lamb very well, but a few execution and value concerns kept it from being a great experience.
Food was amazing. Good tapas. 4-5 plates needed for 2 people. So you get to try a lot of different dishes.
I enjoyed a fairly quick and also satisfying meal at Cadet. The service was quick and very personable. The staff had asked specifically if I was heading to a performance or not so that they could put a rush on my dishes if needed. I settled on the focaccia bread, the zucchini starter, and the cod. Everything was absolutely delicious! Delicious! The only thing for me was that it did feel quite rushed and even with me sitting at the bar, it's didn't feel as cozy or as friendly as I had hoped.
10/10.
Found this restaurant on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list and it didn't disappoint. Food was excellent; service was impeccable.
Had a great time here for dinner. We were a big group and they were able to accomodate us well (service was excellent). I will be back here !
Great place for a hot date. No military presence.
Delicious!
