Had to wait outside, fortunately not for long. Hostess couldnt tell us how long the wait was when we got there. I have friends that have worked in the industry for decades and they always say a restaurant should be able to tell you how long the wait is. It's just good restaurant management. Got the pate chinois, which is a shepherds pie that used to be served to Chinese migrant railroad workers. Seems a bit racist to still call it that but moving on... It was cold. Tasted OK once it was reheated but there was a strong spice in it that I couldn't place that was a bit odd. Waitress seemed annoyed about giving me a take away box at the end of the meal.
Reviews / Ratings for Buffet de L'antiquaire
I went there following Samuel Dubois’ (tour guide) recommendation. The service was excellent, everyone was kind and helpful, and the food was typical, served in a local atmosphere at a good price. Definitely worth a visit while in Quebec!
Loved everything about this place! The food is great, the staff is friendly and the prices are very affordable. I suggest taking the extra homemade caramel or strawberry sauces for the toasts, they are a must!
Appalling service and a hostile atmosphere. After a simple order mistake, the waitress threw a temper tantrum. She argued with me, marched to our table, and aggressively scraped my plate into the trash, using her bare hand to hold my burger just inches from the garbage. Throughout the ordeal, she was visibly shrugging and making faces to signal her annoyance. As the only people of color and non-French speakers present, we felt targeted and deeply unwelcome, especially as the staff gossiped about us in French afterward. Unprofessional, unsanitary, and discriminatory.
Excellent.
The food was really good, just not "great" but I will definitely return to try other menu items. The staff were friendly and the service was very good. I must have arrived at a good time because it wasn't very busy (also less people in the area in winter, I guess). I'll be back for sure next time I'm in Québec.
I highly recommend the Pouding chomeur!!
A classic dinner feel with a staff that is half friendly and half "meh". The food wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing. I appreciated the breakfast, and really liked the sausages dipped in the delicious maple syrup. Would certainly recommend if you are in need of a good breakfast, but not if you were looking for something unique.
We were really looking forward to trying some traditional Quebec fare and had a chilly but fun conversation with some locals while we waited outside for a table. The peasoup was very good but the classic meat pie and stew were disappointing by any standards, much less those of a highly rated local favorite. The food was overcooked and generally bland, not what you'd expect for a city known for culinary excellence.
More place but fun
Loved their onion soup, comforting, delicious & very reasonably priced! Much better & cheaper than many supposedly good restos. Service was amazing as well. Will definitely be back again!
Authentic comfort food. Mostly locals
We had the l'assiette brunch and la cochonne for breakfast. Both were great but the cochonne was even better. I reccomend giving it a try. It's really a breakfast poutine, but its well balanced and not too filling for breakfast as you think it may be. Coffee comes with free refills. Service was very good considering it was quite busy when we were there.
If you want good traditional Quebec food, this is the place. They have traditional diner selections too. Our meal was amazing. We asked the server what to order and we were not disappointed. Highly recommend.
My favorite breakfast spot in town.
Wonderful food, will be back again! A la prochaine 😊
Excellent breakfast spot. Good food and fast service.
Most of the dishes we tried were well-prepared, clean in presentation, and tasted excellent. We would be happy to visit again when we have the opportunity to return to Quebec.
From all the other restaurants we tried at Quebec, this one would be the only one we are looking forward to come back. Amazing food, amazing service.
