After having eaten at (and been very impressed by) the Bombay Mahal Parc-Ex location earlier this weekend, I thought I'd give the NDG location a try as I live in the neighbourhood and would love to find a local Indian restaurant of similar quality. I ordered the chicken vindaloo along with steamed rice, naan, and an appetizer of lentil dhal. The first thing I noticed was the prices punched in by the staff member were much higher than what was advertised on their website. When I mentioned this he altered the price, though the total was still more than if I had simply ordered on Uber Eats for pick-up. I am not sure if this was an honest mistake, or a blatant attempt at an upcharge, but it certainly wasn’t the best way to start my dining experience. If the chicken vindaloo is indeed $16, the $12 listing on the website should be updated. The food arrived quickly and the table service was fine. The inclusion of a free bottle of water and disappointingly bland vindaloo cannot help but lead me to suspect that I might have received the “Gora version” of the dish. I include this in my review in case anyone else with a light complexion likes their vindaloo spicy and visits this restaurant... just be sure to ask for the full spice when ordering. I’m not normally one to fuss about atmosphere, but in comparison to the Parc-Ex location I feel compelled to mention it. While that spot is bright, bustling, and clean. This location had uncleared tables, somewhat dour staff, and a generally uncaring vibe. With several other Indian restaurants within walking distance on Sherbrooke, unfortunately my search for one to visit consistently as a local will have to continue.

I ordered the Seekh Thali and Non-Veg Thali, but the food didn’t meet my expectations. The seekhs were too dry and just spicy without any real flavor. There were no onions or salad served, which is unusual for this kind of meal. The atmosphere wasn’t great either. It was uncomfortable seeing Uber drivers not being treated well while they waited for orders, and I found it shocking that there were no hand sanitizers available anywhere, especially in a food establishment. Cleanliness and a welcoming vibe are just as important as the food, and unfortunately, this place fell short on all fronts.

Ordered uber, it was so saltyyyyy couldn’t eat the bahji oignon! Even their rice was salty and VERY oily (it was a lake of oil at the bottom pf the container). Very disappointing! Palak paneer was ok but sooo oily. Would not recommend.

Literally the worst Indian food I've ever eaten. Ordered off Uber Eats because I saw they had a 2-for-1 butter chicken special. Great, right? No. Portions are so tiny that it's really just one butter chicken in two take-out containers. Shameful and deceptive business practice. Would be bearable if it tasted good, but I didn't know butter chicken could be made so poorly. Another review I saw here said it tasted "diluted" and "soup-like," and this is exactly my experience. Tastes like someone made a butter chicken sauce then dumped in equal parts water to save a buck. Also, the naan was burnt. I hope the money you guys save from cutting every possible corner covers the cost of never having repeat customers =(
