Nolah Bistro – Solid food with some caveats. We had dinner at Nolah Bistro recently. The service was excellent. Our server Michael was friendly, attentive, and made great suggestions. The food is good but consistently too spicy, which tends to mask the flavors. The octopus appetizer was very good, the merguez balls less so. The tuna was tasty, but the shrimps were overwhelmingly spicy, even for heat lovers. The biggest disappointment was the ambience. Even at the bar away from the crowd, the noise level was excessive. It felt like a rowdy sports bar during a hockey game. If you’re a fan of very spicy food, don’t mind loud environments, and are going with a group, Nolah Bistro is a fine choice. However, if you’re looking for a quaint, relaxed bistro experience where you can actually taste the nuances of the food and have a proper conversation, you might want to look elsewhere.
What guests say about Bistro Nolah
Bistro Nolah seems like a very good option if you’re looking for New Orleans-inspired cuisine with lots of flavor and often generous portions. The service is generally described as warm, attentive, and professional, and the atmosphere is often considered cozy, intimate, and pleasant for a special evening or brunch. However, a few customers mentioned drawbacks such as noise, limited space, reservations being mainly online, and a few inconsistent experiences with cleanliness or service.

🎉🍾🥂🎊 We recently had our 10th anniversary to celebrate with a 2012 vintage Dom Perignon and takeaway at home. What a perfect accompaniment... Nolah's Fried Chicken and Mac & Cheese 😋💕 Delicious!!
Delicious! And really attentive servers.
lighting was the perfect choice, food was phenomenal. firs time trying duck and it was just a piece from my friends plate.. i can’t stop thinking about it. i had the shrimp creole and it was the perfect amount of spice. would highly recommend coming here

Awesome!
Wow, maybe the best brunch ive had in my whole life! Amazing service to go with it.
We went for brunch one of the best places in montreal.
The service was A1. The food was so delicious. Flavourful and nice touch heat. Homemade keylime pie was heavenly..
Took my mother to Bistro Nolah for Mother’s Day and had a really great experience. The food was amazing — everything was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. You can tell they really care about the quality of the dishes. Also want to give a shoutout to our waiter, the younger guy who served us. He was super kind, funny, and really knew the menu well. He helped us decide what to order and all his recommendations were spot on. He honestly made the experience even better. Definitely a place I’d come back to.
We absolutely enjoyed Bistro Nolah, one of the best restaurants that we have tasted in a long time. We had Hush Puppies (Cornbread) and Fried Chicken for appetizers. The fried chicken was really flavourful down to the very fibre of the chicken. For dinner, we ordered the shrimp and grits, pan seared scallops (special on the menu) smoked brisket. And for dessert, we had the beignets (the best donuts that you will ever taste in your whole life). Every single course of the meal which they make completely in house including the bread and the special butter was absolutely gorgeous and extremely flavourful that wakes up every single taste bud in your palate. And our waiter Chris was very attentive and fantastic to us. One of our children has Celiac disease and cannot eat gluten so he could not eat any of the appetizers except one (Chris was also very knowledgeable about the gluten and the non-gluten menu choices as well btw.) and had to wait for his main dish which took a bit of time to arrive as the night was quite busy. When we asked if our child can have his plate first before the rest of us, Christ promptly went to the kitchen and got our child's dish to serve it to our child. And he even remembered that my child might not be used to the spiciness in the dish and they set the spicy sauce on the side so not to make the dish too spicy for him. My child ordered the Blackened Catfish and it was so delicious my child finished every single morsel on his plate even the vegetables asparagus. He finished the food so fast we couldn't even take a photo. We are so glad that we found this place which is nestled away in a small plaza. It's one of our most enjoyable gastronomical experience inside a beautifully decorated dining room. It's our first time visiting this restaurant and tasting Southern comfort food New Orleans. We will definitely be back.
Incredible New Orleans styled Cajun restaurant in the West Island. No shortage of flavour here. It is a bit pricey for what it is. But it is delicious.
Amazing
Great service and kind people. Food is amazing and tasty.
We went to Bistro Nola last night and had an excellent experience from start to finish. We shared a few appetizers including the mac and cheese, fried chicken, and gumbo sausage, all were absolutely delicious and full of flavor. Perfect for sharing and a great way to start the meal. For mains, we had the smoked brisket, braised short ribs, and blackened catfish. Every dish was cooked perfectly and packed with rich, authentic flavors. Dessert was on another level. We tried the Mississippi mud pie, pain perdu, and beignets. Everything was amazing, but the Oreo mud pie really stood out. Service was fast, friendly, and very smooth all evening. The restaurant was packed, so we were really glad we made a reservation. Overall, great value, amazing food, and a fantastic atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back.
Amazing food and service. Unbeatable.
This was my 2nd time ar Nolah after a 10 year hiatus. I found it was very dark, tables were small and chairs too flimsy. Waiter was very enthusiastic and attentive, however, he kept addressing only a couple of people at the table, rather than letting us all know about the specials. Food-wise: the scallops were good, but are they worth $50? No, not in my opinion. The ceviche was overly citrusy and very small portion. The bread was delicious, as were the Hush Puppies. The chocolate torte and beignets were divine. Fried chicken was tasty and Ceasars salad delicious as well. Overall, it was a good experience, but I find the prices were a but much.
I went with my family for mother's day brunch. I can't wait to go back for dinner. If you go with kids, order the fruits, chicken and French toast. Update. I finally went for dinner and my experience was so different. It felt like they needed to get rid of us since we went in but I had a reservation. They gave us an awful table for 2, the one just in front of the bar where all waiter and the owner stand to talk...so we requested another one and they gave us a deadline. I heard a waiter harassing a lady next us, where was her party since he had a 4 seat table and she was alone. Food was great but small and high prices. I am changing my 5 star review to meh.
Nice cosy place, food is excellent, balanced & well presented, great service, attentive staff.
If you’re looking for a culinary orgasm, look no further than Bistro Nolah. And Chris and the rest of the staff made it a truly memorable experience. Thank you!
Absoutely amazing experience, the food was incredible. Atmosphere was awesome. Overall I highly recommend this place for a different experience in the west island.
I’ve been wanting to try this restaurant for long time ago.. when I did the food was just fine nothing so special about it.. the service is not good. I felt discriminated.
I had the shrimp gumbo as an appetizer and the beef brisket for the main course. It was delicious. A must try!
Went to Bistro Nola for Breakfast on Sunday. I didnt have reservations. I sat at the bar. The food was very very good. I was surprised they didnt have fresh squeezed orange juice, and charged $7 for Tropicana OJ, but everything else was stellar. I had the Le Richard. 2 pieces of Fried chicken on French toast...a poached egg on a corn bread muffin, and some ham underneath the muffin, with home fries. Very good. Cooked perfectly. They have a very well stocked bar too, good scotches and rums. I'm surprised Kalhua for their coffee liqueur, vs Barista from Montreal, very coffee forward coffee liqueur, vs Kalhua. But just offering suggestions.
The brunch was absolutely delicious, n flavourful even my kids loved the pancakes n fried chicken. A sweet charm of a place. Only small issue was that because the place is small i felt a bit rushed towards the end for other reservations. I will definately be going back for dinner and brunches.
