We appreciate getting a table without a reservation on a Friday evening. The tendon was not fried with light batter and there was no dipping sauce with shredded daikon as one might expect. I also felt the agedashi tofu could have a more flavorful sauce. The restaurant customers seemed quite happy.

Food is good but selection is limited. Service was good. But a bottle of hakutsuru should not be 48$. Its robbery and taking your customers for fools. Their alcohol menu is limited and super expensive. Thats the most overpriced bottle in Montreal for sure. Its authentic but not worth it imho. There is better japanese resto in montreal.
My bf brought me here for our anniversary dinner and it honestly felt like we were transported back to Japan. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere brought so much nostalgia — the cozy interior, warm lighting, and intimate vibe reminded me of the small local restaurants in Tokyo. The food was absolutely incredible and tasted so authentic. Every dish was prepared with so much care and flavor that it genuinely felt like dining in Japan again. You can really tell the restaurant values quality and authenticity. What made the experience even more special was the kindness of the staff and owner. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. This was such a dinner, and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Japanese food and a cozy and simple Tokyo-style dining experience in Canada. Definitely a must try!
It still got it! One of the rare remaining locations for authentic "feels like you're there homestyle" japanese food. This spot used to be used to be near quartier des spectacles and it moved there a while back. One thing is certain, the quality was not only preserved but at moments, exceeded to my great delight. Yes it's more expensive than your usual sushi shop, but the subtle attention to detail that a fully japanese staff can bring to a meal is worth the asking price alone.
Very delicious Japanese restaurant. Very calm. It was a good experience overall. Staff is very gentle. You can feel the love for food in their dishes! AUBERGINE AGENI: 9/10 Would recommend 100% to anyone, even if they don’t like aubergine. A must try! UNADON: 9/10 The portion was so good for the eels, which is rare in restaurants. Very delicious! UDON NABEYAKI: 8/10 It was a good portion too, good broth, very tasty! MATCHA ICE CREAM: 10/10 Ouhhhhh this was was 🔥
Excellent 👌
We tried the sushi, tempura, and karaage. The sushi pieces were bigger than at other restaurants. They came with wasabi inside, so I should have asked for them without wasabi. The tempura included three shrimp, sweet potato, and onion. The total cost was around $200 for two people, including tax and tip.
A true taste of Japan in Montreal. The service is amazing and the food delicious!
Beautiful service they were so kind. And when they brought the fish "fondue" he explained what to stary with and what was in the dish. Extremely important make reservation even if your just 2.
My wife loves this place and finally convinced me to go out for dinner tonight for the first time. Not just the food is fresh and the place cozy, but the service is spectacular. It’s been a long time I haven’t felt so welcomed. The staff is super nice and friendly and our waitress was amazing—they made our night. Try the Shabu shabu!
So glad they reopened! Food is still amazing! Too bad the new menu doesn't have tendon anymore. Regardless, we ordered katsudon, Udon shrimp tempura, Udon nabeyaki and a mix of sushi, sashimi and our favorite maki heiwa and they were all still very delicious!!! Can't wait to go back again and again. The service is amazing! The staff are just the sweetest people! Edit: Tendon is on the menu and it is delicious!
My partner and I were excited to try this place. The miso soup was good and the rice bowl was fine, but the udon nabeyaki was very disappointing. The broth tasted almost like water and lacked the depth you’d expect from a bonito-based soup. I’m familiar with Japanese flavors and have been to Japan, so I was surprised by the quality. When we asked if the broth could have more flavor, the staff kindly agreed. However, the soup was reboiled with everything inside, which made the tempura soggy and fully cooked the egg yolk. It didn’t look appetizing anymore. We appreciated not being charged for the soup, but overall the $24 price didn’t match the quality.
This has to be hands-down the best japanese restaurant I've been to. It has a nice, casual atmosphere. The service was amazing, very polite and sweet staff. Everything was clean and well maintained. Now for the food: for starters, we got takoyaki dumplings with tofu in broth. Absolutely delicious and fresh. We got the Katsu (porc cutlet) rice bowl (nice portion) that came with miso soup. Finally, the karaage (fried chicken). Best fried chicken I've had. We finished that off with a assortment of sushi, and let me tell you they dont skimp on portions. I've been looking for a place that serves big chunks of fresh fish and that's what we got (yellowtail, fatty tuna, tuna) with salmon roe, tuna maki, and uni (sea urchin). Just Absolutely amazing. We also got two beers each. I'm very happy to have visited this amazing spot, and I wish all the best to the family and staff that run this place. They should be very proud. Reccomend for anyone who wants to enjoy a delicious authentic Japanese meal.
Avoid this place… we were refused a table even though the resto was empty….maybe my skin colour had something to do with it
We had a really great time here. It was quite a busy evening and they accommodated us even we hadn’t made a reservation. We love the warm atmosphere and great authentic food. Really happy that we had authentic tempura
Some of the best sushi I’ve had in Montreal!
My favorite japanese restaurant in Montreal hands down. Staff are friendly and the fish is always fresh. 100% worth the price for its quality
The best and most authentic Japanese food in Montreal by far. I typically order multiple appetizers when I come here, as there is a wonderful variety. I recommend: - agedashi tofu (the standout menu item, better than any I was able to find in Japan) - spicy eggplant - korokke - grilled fish (especially if the yellowtail cheek is available) The katsudon is also very good, in large part due to the broth. The broth used here is consistently amazing. I've been coming to Furusato for over a decade and was devastated when they closed during covid. It's a blessing they've returned and I hope they'll be open forever.
