Delicious food and very accommodating staff. Would definitely recommend and will be coming back here for the third time soon
Reviews / Ratings for 40 Westt
We went for lunch, to celebrate my husband's birthday. I had the best meal I've had in a while. Halibut with lemon creamy pasta. He had the pepper steak, we both had the wedge salad with Caesar dressing. Dessert was dulce de leche cheesecake. We thoroughly enjoyed everything, and had fantastic service from Natasha.
Another Montreal institution down the tubes. Ridiculous prices for average food and unfriendly service. No need to ever go back
40 West is a beautiful steakhouse. As you pull up in the parking lot, you immediately sense that you are in for a rich experience before you even step in the door. The building itself is adorned with massive windows and the entrance is flanked by massive pillars giving it the feel of a Greek coliseum. Upon entering you are greeted by large brick archways that lead to the different seating areas of the restaurant. My party had a reservation for 8 and we were seated within 10 minutes of our arrival. It's always nice to not have to wait when you have a reservation. Our table was clean and nicely set. Our waiter, whom I neglected to get his name was prompt, professional and informative. Drink service was quick and bread brought to the table quickly. For starters, I ordered the tuna tartar. I was served a healthy portion with two croquettes and some string potatoes that were extremely thin and crusted. The whole dish was very good, however the tuna has slightly to much sesame oil mixed in but still tasted good and was fresh. Paired with the croquettes and the salty string potatoes produce a wonderful little bite, that has some kick to it as well. For the main I elected to have an 8 ounce filter mignon and for my side I added the truffle Mac and Cheese. The steak arrived perfectly cooked to a medium rare, seared, salted and peppered. Extremely tender and tasty. Clearly a very high quality cut of beef. The truffle Mac and cheese was excellent served with little sea shell noodles that were perfectly el dente. Very creamy sauce with a hint of tomatoes and the truffle oil was the perfect level. The service was good through out with our plates being cleared quickly and our table kept clean from crumbs. Our waiter was attentive throughout without being over bearing. If you appreciate a fine dining experience and enjoy high quality steak houses you will not be disappointed with 40 West. The ambience is great with just the right amount of light and music is in the background and not blasting in your ears and you can enjoy conversation throughout your meal. This was a great place for our party but would be perfect for a date night as well with several 2 seat tables available. Great food, great service and a great night out!
Superb Service. Seafood Linguine very good. Steaks are dry aged and fantastic. A must visit overtime i visit Montreal.
Overrated steakhouse. The tomahawk lacked flavour and the Caesar salad was blah and underwhelming. The grilled asparagus was nice, though. Bottomline, at this price point, you can easily find better steak in Montreal unless you intend to absolutely avoid the city and are stuck in the West Island.
Overrated. I know this restaurant has a great reputation, which is why we were invited there by our friends today. But they managed to burn my ribeye steak (I ordered it medium rare!), and it came with a baked potato that I had to load with butter just to be able to eat it. Honestly, you don’t get the value for the money. Maybe it was a great restaurant in the past, but now it feels overrated. We also noticed that the servers were quite full of themselves — ours came across as arrogant, which is not something you often expect at a high-end restaurant.
Sergio made our night. Thank you!
Great restaurant in every way But it could do better with the Greek salad that is cheapened by having pieces of bread in it!
Great atmosphere the Steak was amazing and John our server was a real Professional. A wonderful experience ✨️
Absolutely wonderful experience. We are regulars here and have consistently amazing food, service and always feel welcomed like family.
Our "go-to" resto on the West Island!!! Never dissappoints! *Chef's Kiss* impeccable service from reception to wait staff and sommelier!!!! Food is always on point.
This is the most exquisite hidden gem in the West Island. The food was divine, the service TOP NOTCH and the atmosphere... is just Wow! One of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever been to. The architecture in this place is on another level. So nice to see an exhibition kitchen with so much staff and open concept. My Filet mignon and my friend's cowboy steak was grilled to perfection. This is now my new go to place. What impressed me the most is seeing all these patrons conducting business and at the same time so many personal events going on. A beautiful evening. Thank you.
One of the best steak houses in Montreal. Food quality is at its best, service is always on point . Amazing live band in the bar lounge section. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and the Chilean sea bass was delicious.
Great atmosphere, vibe and amazing food and service. Gone many times and always top notch!
Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. The salad was overly creamy and tasted very commercial and low quality. Even the drinks felt like something from a cheap all-inclusive resort in the South. The steaks were extremely salty and seemed artificially tenderized, with a texture that felt processed rather than fresh. Overall, the food lacked authenticity and quality, especially considering the expectations.
It was the worst experience I ever had. The waiter who served us, was not social at all and the way he treated us, was kind of rude. During our dining he constantly moved the dishes. The quality of food was good but did not worth for the money at all. We asked for the bear that was served in a wine glass!! If you want some time, to go out with your family, this place is not a good one. Stay away!
A Montréal classic steak house with amazing seafood.
I recently visited 40 West Restaurant in Montreal, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the moment we walked in. The hostess was extremely rude there was no greeting, no basic courtesy, nothing. As someone who has worked as a hostess before, I know that first impressions are everything in this industry, whether it’s fine dining or not. Coming all the way from Toronto, I had higher expectations for a restaurant of this level. Our waiter was pleasant at first, but things took a turn when we found a black hair in our ice cream. When we brought it to his attention, instead of apologizing, he casually explained that “sometimes when they prepare it, hair falls into the ice cream.” That response was honestly shocking—there was no accountability or effort to make the situation right. To make matters worse, I had clearly mentioned that it was my sister’s birthday. They completely forgot to acknowledge it with the dessert, and only came back afterward with a sparkler saying “happy birthday, sorry, it was supposed to be on it.” It felt like an afterthought. Meanwhile, we noticed other tables receiving full birthday celebrations with singing and proper attention. For a place that presents itself as high-end, the inconsistency in service and lack of attention to important details was very disappointing. Overall, this experience fell far below expectations. A restaurant at this level should prioritize professionalism, attentiveness, and basic hospitality Update: Thank you for your response. I understand your policies regarding reservations and timing; however, that does not change the experience we had once seated. Regarding the birthday, no staff came to sing. You’re welcome to review your cameras if needed, as the only people who sang were my friends at the table. The sparkler was also not brought out with the dessert initially, which is why it felt like an afterthought. I also want to address the tone of your response. It comes across as dismissive and focused on defending the establishment rather than acknowledging the guest experience. Before making definitive statements about what did or did not happen, I would encourage reviewing your cameras. To be clear, the waiter himself was pleasant. My review was not an attack on him personally, but on how the situation was handled overall. As for the dessert issue, the response we received in the moment is exactly what was reflected in my review, which is why it stood out. My review was not about policies, but about the overall experience and how certain situations were handled. I’m simply sharing my honest experience from that night.
I was soo dissapointed with my first time to this restaurant. Asked for medium RARE it came well done just the middle piece was slightly medium but all other pieces rubber!!! The waiter even noticed and said oh looks really well cooked let me aee what i can do never came back my husband was hungry and was like forget it lets just eat!! I could barely finish as was so rough! When waiter finally came back was for dessert which was great andyo Compensate for a 200$ steak well done they offered us a cappuccino and espresso. Dissapointed is an understatement
Had an awesome experience at 40 Westt, the food was excellent so was the service. I loved how high end the place was and felt. For a full experience be ready to spend 150-200$/ person(tax and tip incl).
We had the pleasure of being served by Rouhid and Joey. These two Amazing gentlemen were funny , made our experience enjoyable and tended to our every need. Very hospitable and professional. We will defiantly be coming back. Thank you for the great hospitality.
Extra ordinary service & very organized . The food is exquisite 👌
Institution in the West Island Visited for lunch a few weeks ago, one of the best places for lunch in the West Island, The octopus dish I had is one of the best to date and the braised veal cheeks were absolutely amazing. Thank you Chef Stefano for hospitality.
