Music so loud you cannot enjoy talking ; staff very rude and condescending especially the managers, food is lukewarm warm, portions are small prices are high. Skip this overhyped joint there are way better options

I've been to 40 West several times, and unfortunately, the service issue that stands out is the hostess. Upon arrival, she didn't acknowledge us or greet us. We actually had to say hello first, and this isn't the first time it's happened. The waiter was pleasant and professional, and the food was good. However, the timing of the service could have been much better. Our bottled water and bread arrived at the same time as our entrées, which defeats the purpose of having them beforehand. The restaurant was noticeably less busy than a typical Friday lunch, so this was surprising. Once our meals arrived, the rest of the experience went fairly well, although the overall pace of service felt slow. The most disappointing part was on our way out. Once again, the hostess didn't acknowledge us or say goodbye. We had to loudly say "bye" before she finally looked up. First and last impressions matter, and unfortunately both were lacking. The food keeps this review from being lower, but the front-of-house experience needs significant improvement.

Came for a friends birthday, big group, good energy from us. Straight up bad service, bad attitude, especially from our server Sergio. Then birthday man asked for a cut of meat medium-welldone and received a cut RARE and cold. Then we ask about it, bad attitude again and really hard to deal with. Overall really bad service. It’s disappointing. Need better management.

Disappointing Experience at a Supposedly High-End Steakhouse We visited 40 West Steakhouse on Saturday evening to celebrate my mother’s 81st birthday, along with some exciting family news that my nephew and his wife are expecting a baby. Unfortunately, what should have been a wonderful evening turned into a series of disappointing experiences. Our waiter, Ahmed, started off very pleasantly and was genuinely enthusiastic about our celebrations. However, things went downhill from there. My nephew’s wife, who is pregnant, specifically explained that she needed to avoid certain shellfish, including clams, and requested that they be removed from her linguine. Despite making this clear, her meal arrived with clams in it, and she had already started eating before realizing the mistake. This was particularly concerning given that the dietary restriction had been clearly communicated. To the restaurant’s credit, they acknowledged the error, offered an alternative, and ultimately removed the dish from our bill. My nephew ordered fries with his steak but was served garlic mashed potatoes instead. When the fries finally arrived, they were completely cold, requiring yet another replacement. Even something as basic as getting water to the table became an issue. We were told there weren’t enough glasses available, so we had to wait. At a restaurant positioning itself as a high-end steakhouse, I find that completely unacceptable. I also ordered an espresso, which didn’t arrive until after the desserts had already been served. As for the food itself, it was average at best. I ordered the Delmonico steak and was surprised by how thin it was, especially considering the price. Frankly, I’ve enjoyed better steaks and considerably better value at The Keg. To be fair, the restaurant did try to make amends by removing the linguine from our bill and providing several complimentary pieces of cake for our table to share. Those gestures were appreciated. However, when you’re paying premium steakhouse prices, you expect premium food, attentive service, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, we experienced none of those consistently. What was supposed to be a special family celebration ended up being a very disappointing dining experience. For the prices 40 West charges, I expected considerably better. I can’t say I’d be eager to return.

The food was good and the atmosphere was lovely, but the service felt disorganized. We had several different servers, and they seemed to be in a rush. When dessert arrived, they didn’t bring plates or spoons. Overall, we enjoyed the food, but the service could have been better.

Had an amazing experience at 40 Westt with my friend Ed! We shared the tomahawk steak, which came with four sides, and everything was delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the caramelized onions were honestly one of my favorite parts! A special shoutout to our server Jonathan, who did an amazing job. He was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere — definitely a spot I’d recommend!

We celebrated my mothers birthday at 40 Westt and we had a great event. Maurice the event planner Omega Design Events and the staff of 40 Westt did a great job with communicating and ensuring everything is good to go for the event. I strongly recommend using 40 Westt for your next event.

It was my husband’s birthday, and the three of us had such a lovely evening here with our daughter. The food and service were brilliant! We really loved all the little details. The plates for our sharing dishes were warm, the bread basket was so cute, and the bread itself was soft and fresh—not the dry, hard kind you sometimes get. The aged steak was so good (actually even better than the rack of lamb I ordered 😂), although the lamb was also delicious. The steak was especially tender and easy to eat. My daughter really enjoyed it too, at some other restaurants at a similar level, she sometimes finds the steak a little too tough to chew, but she had no problem with this one at all. And the portions were very generous! We couldn’t even finish everything between the three of us. We sat in a booth facing the open kitchen, which was bright and lively. It was actually really enjoyable just watching the chefs working, everyone was so busy but organized and efficient.

Service was good but food was just okay, especially for the price. Cold bread and cold butter put on the table - not a good start. Appetizers were okay but the tomato salad lacked seasoning and the tuna tartar portion was very small - served with two sad pieces of bread that were toasted at one point, but cold and stale by the time they arrived to the table. Shortly after receiving our appetizers, the table of gentlemen nearest to us got up halfway through their meal and left with a significant amount of food left on their plates - not an inspiring sign. Main courses were surf and turf and the rack of lamb. The filet mignon (ordered medium-rare) and accompanying shrimp were both overcooked. On a positive note, the rack of lamb was the star of the show. The portion was generous and well seasoned, and the demi-glace was delicious. Unfortunately, everything came to the table on cold plates, so it was all cold within a few minutes. The mashed potatoes were room temperature already by the time they got to the table. With a few small improvements, 40 Westt could be much better than it is - unfortunately we won’t be back.

Nice place to eat and enjoy a good dining experience. It was my wife's birthday. The food was good, although a little expensive, and the service from our waiter was excellent. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the Lobster Bisque. The manager was very kind and took it off my bill, which I really appreciated. Same for a side baked potatoes for my daughter. Later that night, I had a very bad stomachache and spent much of my night in the washroom. I’m not sure what caused it, but I wonder if it may have been the soup. Overall, a nice atmosphere and great service, but unfortunately, the experience with the food left me disappointed.

An excellent dining experience from start to finish! The food was outstanding, and the quality of the meat truly stood out. It was tender, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked beautifully. The ambiance was elegant, the service was courteous. Sugeen was a fantastic server, friendly, attentive, and professional. The maître d’ was warm and welcoming, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Truly a place worth coming back to!
