I've been hearing about Chez Boub for years, this restaurant located in Lac-Beauport. About fifteen years ago, when I was working nearby for the summer, many of my coworkers frequented the place for dinner. They all told me about it! With its crisp green roof, the establishment captured my attention every time I walked past, but I hadn't had the chance to experience it and I didn't quite understand the excitement. Those who lived in Lac-Beauport seemed to have a real attachment to it.

In 2017, the restaurant was engulfed in flames. The fire completely devastated the legendary establishment, which was subsequently completely rebuilt to date. The new Chez Boub really looks great and I had heard many times that this is the quintessential family restaurant in the Quebec City area. So it was with all the kids that we tested the place.

From the outside, the restaurant is inviting! The patio is full, the adjoining dairy bar is in full swing, cyclists enjoy a break in the Adirondack chairs placed on the front grassy area. Inside, the decor looks good. The large cathedral roof gives the air of a modern chalet. The mix of raw wood, charcoal black and the touch of the same vibrant green in the fixtures impress the tribe. I find that the light is a bit lacking in the dining room, but we still opt for a large bench. Immediately, the children are given pencils to have fun on the placemats filled with games.

We open the menus; the choice is immense! All the classics of family restaurants are there: poutines, burgers, pizzas, pasta, smoked meat and chicken. I do, however, like the creativity of the menu with bold dishes through the traditional, something to appeal to everyone. For example, we find a burger with brie and caramelized onions, a duck pizza and a surprising spaghetti poutine.

Pizza being the specialty of the house, it is to bring people together that we slice. Unable to decide between two choices, our waitress is quick to suggest that we order a large half / half pizza in two flavors! Attention we appreciate! One side of the pizza will therefore be pepperoni and cheese to satisfy the little ones and the second will be M. Séguin (tomato sauce, pesto, caramelized onions, goat cheese, mozzarella, shallots). As soon as the order has been placed, the little ones set off in the direction of the room set up for them including a games module.

Service is a bit slow, but how can you blame it when the restaurant is packed and the employees are overwhelmed? Sorry and the kids have plenty to occupy while they wait.

When the pizza arrives, everyone is ready to attack. Children swallow it without flinching while feasting on the large homemade fries. As for the grown-ups, little disappointment for Mr. Séguin's pizza which does not meet our expectations. After a peak, we had had enough. For my taste, the caramelized onions were a bit too present and the green onions weren't necessary.

All in all, the experience is very pleasant and I understand why we talk about it so often! Next time we will try the breakfasts!
