A small municipality of barely 1000 souls located in the Outaouais, Montebello nevertheless welcomes its share of tourists. Whether it is for the Manoir-Papineau historic site, the splendid Fairmont hotel or, like us, for the Omega animal park, the small village attracts visitors from all over.

It was on the warm recommendations of our host, at the inn where we were staying, that we booked at the Bistro Montebello. The place is very popular, it is best to book. The restaurant has two dining rooms in addition to a festive terrace in summer. It is in the largest room that we are led on our arrival.

The menus are quickly served to us. We start with the cocktail menu which turns out to be well stocked and detailed. It presents each of the spirits used. The wine list is also generously filled. I finally choose a cocktail based on Jardin Verde gin, watermelon and sparkling strawberry water. At the first sip, I am a little disappointed by the bland side of the mixture. Fortunately, I tell the waitress who changes it immediately, replacing the carbonated water with tonic and raspberry purée. What attention! And the cocktail is revived!

For one of the few times in my life, I don't procrastinate over the menu. It's not that it's not interesting, on the contrary, it's very complete and offers many possibilities, but the dish of the day displayed on the slate on the wall immediately caught my attention. It is therefore for the butterfly prawns that I flinch. When you take me by the feelings...

An elegant bistro salad was also included in my choice. A pleasant refreshing appetizer! Carefully presented, the plate fills me completely. The prawns are tasty and perfectly seasoned. In the center of the dish, a portion of white rice topped with good crunchy vegetables delight me and balance the presence of garlic well. The only downside was the garlic butter, the consistency of which was unfamiliar to me and which did not appeal to me. I preferred to eat them as is.

My guide's heart swayed for the prawn linguine served with a fresh tomato, garlic, dill, cream and lime sauce. Impeccable according to his words!

The atmosphere is really pleasant, the decor too and the open kitchen allows us to attend the spectacle of the preparation of pizzas in the wood oven! Definitely a must in the Outaouais!
