As I'm a bit easily influenced when it comes to food and restaurants, I wanted to try the Grilled Pick Up since I saw the friendly Benoît stop there as part of his show Sur le Thumb up a few years ago.

I, who had frequented Tadoussac practically every summer of my childhood, had promised myself to try it the day I returned to this charming port village that I love so much. So I jumped at the chance when I set foot there again this summer.

Like an air from Maine
The first evening of my arrival in Tadoussac, it was to Pick Up Grillé that I headed for dinner. The terrace was well filled, but we were lucky enough to get a table at the front, with the boardwalk, the beach, the sea and the moored boats as a backdrop. It almost felt like we were in Maine. It started well!

Lobster roll vs burger
When I see "lobster rolls" on a menu, I have a hard time not flinching. The rest of the menu gets muddled and I have to try it at the risk of regretting it. So I took the plunge for this classic seaside snack, served with homemade chips. The excitement quickly turned to disappointment, however, when my plate came in front of me. Rather expecting a traditional hot dog bun, I was surprised to see a baguette cut in half on my plate. The garnish (generous!), Meanwhile overflowed on all sides, revealing an excess of fresh peas. Besides, what were they doing there? I have nothing against creative cuisine and the idea of ??reinventing dishes, but here I was not sure they were welcome.

Taking a first bite while trying hard to keep it classy, ??what was easy to predict happened: the filling spilled out all over the place, somersaulting my plate and onto my dress. The peas were far too present, the mayonnaise far too abundant in the preparation and the lobster chopped too finely. Rather, it was by forcing myself that I nibbled at the plate, however enjoying the homemade chips which were a change from the usual fries.

However, the sound of the bell is different on the side of my two table companions, having for their part, opted for gourmet burgers. I salute their brilliance for choosing the specialty of the place. Both were delighted with their Angus beef burgers with tasty combinations. For one, poultry liver mousse and onion confit, for the other, pancetta and old cheddar from Île-aux-Grues.

So I was disappointed with my plate, but still enjoying the view of Tadoussac Bay and the shared moment, that I returned to the inn to gulp down a bowl of cereal.
