Nina Pizza Napolitaine can really take pride in preparing the authentic Neapolitan Pizza in Quebec, made according to the rules of the art. Before setting up their small pizzeria in Saint-Roch, the two co-owners trained with a great maestro and they are certified Neapolitan pizzaiole by the APN (Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletani). When you walk into Nina Pizza, you can smell it, it shows and it tastes. The smell of dough cooking over a wood fire is simply torture to the nostrils and to hungry stomachs. It’s divine. The massive wood-fired oven imported directly from Naples cannot help but call for tradition. In fact, the pizza only stays there for 90 seconds before it's ready. All this know-how is delicious on the plate.

Before succumbing to the pizza, we opted for a Crostini alla salsiccia e al tartufo as a starter. They were bread croutons topped with a filling of mild sausage from William J. Walter, Canotier de l'Isle cheese, toasted fennel seeds and truffle oil. We enjoyed it all, but found the fennel taste a bit too strong.

On the menu, pizza is king! Don't look for anything else! Either way, that's the specialty of the place, we'd be crazy to miss it. In front of the twenty or so creative choices, it was the Funghi that won our favor. Or a pizza crust topped with oyster mushrooms, button mushrooms, shallots in white wine, fresh mozzarella, chives, cream cheese and olive oil.

We liked the fact that we could personalize our pizza. We start by choosing between the regular or gluten-free crust. We can then add cheeses of our choice, meats and vegetables. For our part, we decided to add a protein to the pizza by selecting the pancetta and to continue in the theme by adding mushroom bacon. The result was totally decadent. The freshness of the pizza, the accuracy of its cooking, the just perfect thickness and the assembly of a delicate yet consistent filling was simply sublime.

I honestly believe that once you've tasted Nina's pizza, it's hard to want to try another. No wonder the love affair with this restaurant has lasted since 2014. Now I understand why!
