One Friday at noon, I decided to please my 6 year old daughter by picking her up from school for lunch. Sandwich and thermos leave for a day! The excitement was palpable. Not only was going to a restaurant a celebration, but she was going to be able to spend some one-on-one time with Mom, without a big brother around. We could have picked a fast food chain, but I wanted to take the time.

Close to his school, in the Limoilou district, the Baraque Gourmande was the perfect choice. The establishment which opened its doors only a few years ago specializes in slow food, comfort food and healthy meals!

Warm decor

Upon entering the small restaurant, a smile appeared on my daughter's face instantly "Wow, that's beautiful mom!" ". Indeed, the place is cozy. The wooden planks on the wall, the boxes serving as bookcases overflowing with books and games, the travel photos displayed here and there; we feel good.

Varied menu

At the counter, we are a little intimidated, there is a choice and it must be done there. Orders are placed there, then we sit down. I like to take my time selecting my dishes. So I quickly scan the menu and I order a little random chicken bacon wrap for Mademoiselle and a French tacos from La Baraque for me.

We take a seat at a small table for two and select a small game from a shelf to wait. The restaurant is quietly filling up and soon our plates are delivered to our place. Our panini grill wraps turn out delicious. The crispy side of the tortillas is quite different from the usual slightly wet texture. I also like the fact that they're cut in half to make it easier. And in addition, we can share. So I bite into the chicken wrap topped with a garlic cheese sauce and herbs, peppers and maple onions. We both appreciate it! The sweet side is very interesting and the whole is delicate. On the French tacos side, it's beefier: ground beef, mashed sweet potatoes, sautéed potatoes, cheese, peppers, onions, spinach, cilantro, guacamole and lime. I appreciate it too!

Small drawback, however, with the greens served on the plate, without dressing.

Dessert

Having finished her portion, my daughter looked forward to dessert time. She had obviously noticed the display case filled with decadent pastries as she entered. I let her choose the treat of her choice that we will share. Without much surprise, she opted for the rock, the most chocolatey of all! Pecan and honey cookie, hazelnut crisp, chocolate mousse and light hazelnut cream. Reading the happiness in his eyes, I understand that La Baraque has won a little heart!
